@b_jonas I just look at the first paged.

8:38 AM
Seem no other hat was discovered lately.
Maybe the remaining ones aren't rep based. I hope so.

Last year it was played much better: Tim Post has posted hints for all the secret hats, and people tried to guess until the very last moment

@ShadowWizard Don't take this wrong, but this year bash is somehow... unfunny?
I wonder if this year the fire has stopped on day two.

@Derpy meaning? Funnier than last year or not? :)

Well, I don't want to be pessimistic, but it seem people are already loosing interest.

@Derpy why? I do see new comments on the secret hats thread

@ShadowWizard as far as I know, only the Onion hat is still a mystery?
Hairboat’s Revenge: done
Archimedes: we know this one from two years at least
007: done
Odinson: done
Sun Wukong: done also.
Yep, only Onion Knight, which probably will be this year un-guessable one

10:47 AM
hello

Morning.

it's 8pm here, but morning to you

Yep, sorry. I still use morning as a greeting, disregarding the hour.

ah, well morning to you then

I will start using "Okie dokie lokie"
anyway, no sign of new secret hats around the leader-board, @Quill-HATMANIAC

10:53 AM
yeah
I've still got to follow up your haiku from b4

I won't hope for an Haiku hat :P
But that one was from my post I made some years ago
another bash.

When the meta memes were still young, and the force flow strong, we on the meta used to do haiku references now and then.
That post was an attempt at merging another common meta theme, unicorns, with the haiku one.

ah
Do small つ count as a character?
in the five-seven-five combo

I think it counts as one, yes.
> Although the word "on" is sometimes translated as "syllable," one on is counted for a short syllable, two for an elongated vowel, diphthong, or doubled consonant, and one for an "n" at the end of a syllable.

11:05 AM
@Derpy yup, that's true. Well, no new secret hats are showing so far, but who knows... :)
The hardest hat to guess ever, IMO, was Don Draper. Remember that one, @Derpy?
I guessed it about hour before WB was over, it was too late...

A: I have a Secret Hat

EmrakulSecret hats are secret. Public knowledge is not secret. Therefore, secret hats are not public knowledge. Shhhhh. I've been asked to edit this post to explain what secrets I was talking about. So, here goes. Secrets in this answer! I'm going to go ahead and reveal 'em. Fredley originally ad...

^ this is what I have in my mind. Treasure hunts. Not "formula interpolations".
anyway... 2013 had 10 secret hats?
2014 had... 8?
2015... I fear has just 6.

So 2020 will have -2? ;)

@ShadowWizard possible.

Q: How can I spot the Winterbash related mischief going on?

Quill - HAT MANIACI've noticed some strange behaviour going on since Winterbash has started, how can I spot this behaviour before it turns into a serious issue? How is this behaviour related to hats?

11:21 AM
you had Sou Wukong / Son Goku replaced by onion.

what's the actual title

somebody downvoted the answer to that above question o_O
or removed the vote

Did you post that question trying to achieve some hat[s]? :) which one[s]?

No
Just thought It'd be good
I doubt there's a CM hat

11:30 AM
The question is +3-1, the answer is +3-2. I didn't vote

weird
oh hey does getting one downvote make it so you can't get the Up hat on any site
for example I have 5+ ups on MSE, will that affect it?

No. I got Up on SO last night and had some down votes on meta SE

okay coolio

Though not getting any down votes on a meta site should be hard to achieve.

I suppose so lol

Reminds me why I'm only N5~N4

11:42 AM
hahahahahahahahahaha
I am #3!
With an incredible grand total of 3 hats!
Sometime, I would love SharePoint was just shut down and all the content merged with the main SE site.

12:22 PM
Well, let's switch to something more interesting.
Call me if you need me, for now I am reading an analysis on "Lum: the Forever" alternate interpretations.

sure no worries :-)

I have a new theory regarding Onion Knight. To test it, we should find a question with 500 views that hadn't awarded that hat to its OP yet, and give that question 5 new upvotes.

I doubt views are related to hats, but who knows...

good luck finding that too
you'd probably be better off asking an interesting skeptics question or something

My current theory is:
1. Question is posted
2. Answer is posted
3. Answer gets to +5
4. Question gets to +5
Hat!

12:29 PM
It's the only explanation that makes sense to me. The users who got this hat got it for a wide range of upvotes, so it can't be upvotes alone. I think the trigger may be when the question reaches a certain number of views, at which point a few new upvotes will bring the hat. This explains why hot questions have a better chance of getting this hat.

@Eran If it is meant to be a reference to the FF Onion Knight, it must be votes in a short time range. That class is know for begin the one with the highest level stat growth.

@derpy perhaps the new votes must arrive within a short time period. That's a good point.
@ShadowWizard That theory doesn't work in the case of my Secret Hats question. It had over 10 votes and an answer of over 10 votes long before I got the hat.

@Eran you got Onion Knight?? What question?
Steals the hat from @Eran ;)
self slap - of course the MSE question itself
OK, guess you're right, it got something to do with timing as well, maybe this?
4 upvotes in 1 minute

12:51 PM
@ShadowWizard something like that yes. Which is again a smack in the face to all the low-traffic sites.

That's not 4 upvotes in 1 minute. If you expand it, you'll see that the +40 contains multiple votes between 01:49 and 23:41 that generated +40 rep. And those are the votes for my answer, not the question.

@Derpy true
@Eran oh, didn't see option to expand. Oh well... another theory thrown to trash can. :)

@Eran It is the character that grows, so maybe it is something that takes in account all the rep gained by the user in a time range.
The fact that the rep should be originated from post made during WB would stop Skett from automagically getting it.

@Derpy If it was just rep, I would have probably gotten in on SO too (where all my rep yesterday was for answers). I think it must be related to questions only and to the question views.

1:07 PM
well, each case is something impossible to get for me, so I will pass.

1:43 PM
@Derpy Apparently people figured out Onion Knight

@b_jonas link?

But apparently it might not be correct, so I dunno.

ok, nope, you aren't updated. Both theories are unconfirmed, and no one seem to have got an Eureka for that, so they must be wrong.

Ok.

But yep, no other new secret hat was spotted.
I wonder if there are only 6 secret hats this year.

1:56 PM
@b_jonas hey look it's my post!

2:27 PM
..........
Just noticed this one.
I knew Nintendo is mad, but I didn't think this mad.

@Derpy wonder if your tag wiki edit gave you any hat?
