@jin So yah, as I was saying in General. I'd love dark themes. Being light sensitive is a pain when everything uses gray on white. Or, anything on white, for that matter.
I've tried userstyles for SO, but it was a bit hokey.
@Chacha102 i don't think we have to use the same icons from SO for this chat. Keep in mind this chat will be used by many non trilogy/tech users later. Some of them may not have even heard of SO before.
@jin There is a style sheet for the userstyles Firefox plugin for SO, but it's less than perfect. I guess I could be motivated enough to hack away at it and bring it up to my standards.
@jin E.g. Hootsuite finally has a dark theme, which I think works better than client side style sheet could, due to the potential need to update and all that.
@jin It's a bit more involved. Can't just change the bgcolor w/o also changing the foreground colors to suit.
@jin The specific issue w/ the userstyles css was with quoting.
@jin It may be possible to tweak the theme so it isn't so high contrast. Thanks again for reminding me about the accessibility features. I never thought I'd be using 'em. Is that sign that I'm getting old?
@GeorgeMarian well i use a few accessibility tools myself. I absolutely love Readability Bookmarklet. It's awesome for reading blog/news type of sites. Get it now: lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability
@Jin Yes, but also the Chat itself looks better now, yesterday it looked like a threaded discussion thing. But maybe that's just when people "embed" stuff into their messages?
Maybe I shouldn't have visited the Sandbox as a base for comparison, but yesterday it looked like MySpace and now it still looks messy, but I'm guessing that's just because there is so much going on: There are questions, Threads, Images, Links, User Profile Pictures, Tags... A bit like Google Wave :)
I'm guessing it's a bit overwhelming at first (again, Sandbox isn't great to conclude usability), mainly because I thought that chat = text and now you have all this other stuff. Need to experiment a bit more
@GeorgeMarian Wave was great, Google should just have offered a way to allow companies to host their own Wave internally. Around here, everyone liked wave but we concluded not to externalize our Chat to ANY outside source.
I liked the notion of everything being a conversation and being able to attach anything to it. But there was too much hype. Talk about over-promise, under-deliver.
So, when is buzz.stackoverflow.com going to launch? ducks :P I do like the chat though, I just find it a bit hard to read. Don't exactly know why. I wonder if it would be better to move the profile picture to the left of the name, so that it doesn't grab the attention that should go to the text?
Another suggestion: When someone joins the room, the floating name is maybe a bit too big. Maybe just something subtle like a pulsating picture and a little "John Doe has joined" text at the bottom of the attendees.
