@rene My wife works at a hospital and had a good manager when she joined. Then there was a reorganization and someone was elevated to manager who had no experience. We believe she's mostly acting out of self-interest to get promoted. So my wife is a threat and her manger is actively harming her career. (My wife got a masters and is moving to be a professor at a nursing school.)
I'm pretty sure that the skills needed to become a manager are orthogonal to the skills needed to be a good manager.
