The Norwegian minister of foreign affairs was just refused entry into Israel, with the justification that he’s a «jew-hater». Ah, mama mia…
14:59
@PetəíŕdtheWizard what comment?
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact well.. is he «jew-hater»?
@ShadowWizard in formatting sandbox
I mean, it's his right... many otherwise good people do hate jews. ;)
@PetəíŕdtheWizard hmm.. nope.
Last I visited sandbox was few days ago, and didn't see any comment of yours. I think.
Ah think it was in @Aaron's post

Nope, I don't stalk you, no worry. ;)
Anyway...
@Andreas
> Katz says Eide told him at last week’s NATO summit that they have much to discuss, but Norway doesn’t consider Hamas a terror group and is backing anti-Israel efforts at The Hague
That's from our local media ^
So yeah, typical case of reflection: Anti-Israel ==> Anti-Jews
But heck, we have thousands of Jewish people living here, citizens of Israel, who oppose and hate Israel and want to see it destroyed.
From the founding of political Zionism in the 1890s, Haredi Jewish leaders voiced objections to its secular orientation, and before the establishment of the State of Israel, the vast majority of Haredi Jews were opposed to Zionism, like early Reform Judaism, but with distinct reasoning. This was chiefly due to the concern that secular nationalism would redefine the Jewish nation from a religious community based in their alliance to God for whom adherence to religious laws were "the essence of the nation's task, purpose, and right to exists," to an ethnic group like any other as well as the view...
And the most annoying part? We feed them, literally.
So I do agree that those things can be separated: one can hate Israel the country, while not hating Jews, or without any relation to religion at all.

@ShadowWizard Of course not.

@ShadowWizard That’s a blatant lie. Norway has condemned Hamas, labelled them a terrorist group, and supports the arrest warrants from the ICC.
The problem is political leaders that can’t take criticism. And they call themselves a democracy.
The state of Norway has been trying to help establish peace for a long time, and has been a supporter of the rights for both sides for a long time. Our government even refused for a long time to recognize the state of Palestine, precisely because they were worried about the Israeli response. During this time, there was considerable support in the Norwegian public to recognize them, and to stand up against Israel. Yet the government held off, hoping the Israeli government would turn around in time.
That’s too much «long time». Blame the tiny input box on mobile.
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact so even Wikipedia is wrong, which is odd.
Several national governments and two international organizations have created lists of organizations that they designate as terrorist. The following list of designated terrorist groups lists groups designated as terrorist by current and former national governments, and inter-governmental organizations. Such designations have often had a significant effect on the groups' activities. Many organizations that have been designated as terrorist have denied using terrorism as a military tactic to achieve their goals, and there is no international consensus on the legal definition of terrorism. This listing...
Norway isn't there for Hamas ^
To then label Norway as «jew haters», is deeply inappropriate.
Only the EU, which Norway isn't part of.
@ShadowWizard I watched the news when our prime minister condemned the October 7th attacks, and called it an act of terrorism.
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact well, of course. But the question was about labelling Hamas as terror group, and looks like in that aspect, our government was correct.
17:20
@ShadowWizard Norway does not have a list of terror organizations. We follow the UN’s list.
Also, one can support Hamas, can hate Israel, and still not considered as anti-Jewish. In my opinion. By forcing those things to merge together, I think we're doing ourselves only damage, in the long run.
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact ah, well our ministers aren't smart, to say the least. They probably can't grasp such thing. :D
I’m honestly not sure if the Israeli government has the ability to see nuance. Nevertheless, they don’t have a goal to ensure any hopeful future for Palestinians. They are subhumans in their minds. You know, in a similar way that a certain ideology 80 years ago saw things.
@ShadowWizard Wanna replace them? :D
nah, it's more like clinging to power and self glory than anything else, and do whatever needed to achieve those. No complex ideology behind their actions.
(or any ideology)
If our extreme left winged parties would have won the elections (i.e. got more seats), you'd see the same people working hard to make peace, giving away territory, etc.
@ShadowWizard It is not my impression that there’s a lack of a worldview in which only some humans have value.
Just so they can be in government with the left winged parties.
17:27
@ShadowWizard Doubt it. Bibi grew out of the distrust to the Oslo peace agreements.
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact well, sadly this goes both sides, it's not like the other side (the Palestine people) love us and see us as equals.
@ShadowWizard I mean, I’d also be quite pissed if someone came and took my country’s land. Then bombed us. Then treated us as lesser valuable people in their new kingdom on our land.
The fact is that Israel is the country annexing land, and Israel is the (way) more powerful military. When Israel stops breaking the rules, you’ll get support.
It is easier to side with the weak, suppressed group, than the big, powerful bully.
On the news this week (or last weekend?) the IDF murdered 70 innocent civilians in order to kill 1 member of Hamas. That is not acceptable.
Anyway. I think we’ve talked about this part before.
@ShadowWizard But no, Wikipedia isn’t technically wrong. A search for «norw» in that article yields 0 results.
17:46
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact yup
@ShadowWizard That word is already said in the latest 10 words. Please use another. (In case I'm mistaken, run >>rmword yup and then >>reply 9907015)
O-o
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact true. The only question I ask myself these days when thinking about those things is: "Is this really essential for Israel to be the big bad bully in order to survive?" and sadly, the answer might be "yes". Does it justify what we're doing? No.
Hamas isn't the threat: the threat is the combined force of Iran, Syria, and the rest - this can wipe Israel off the map.
@FOX9000 Bot on the wall. Spying on us.
@ShadowWizard To exist in its current form? Yes, I think so too. But I don’t think Israel should exist in this form. It would be a great benefit to the world having Israel front progress, prosperity, and human rights, instead. Jews have suffered a great deal of persecution, tragedy and other horrible crimes for a long, long time, culminating in WW2.
The world should have moved forward. That should have stood there on display for future generations, remembering the atrocities that took place, and promising never do to anything like them again. Unfortunately, we know have a country attempting to own the legacy, and using it to commit new horrendous crimes. That undermines it.

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact "progress, prosperity, and human rights" - problem is, whose human rights, exactly. Each side see only their own rights, neglecting the other side rights - and it's not limited to Israel/Palestine. When this will get better, overall, with real changes in how humans behave towards each other, what you said might come true. Some day.
