@SPArcheon nope, I pinned it. ;)
@Zoeisonstrike yeah, when critical mass of active users leave, without new users to replace them.
I also believe SE can survive few years without any mods at all, it will just be piled with spam, but new users don't really mind, they just want answers.

Just nonsense, or did you try to have the bot say something funny? (can't see anything obvious)

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I second that

1:20 PM
@SPArcheon It's likely covered by onboarding, which would be really unfortunate

I don't think it will be. At least, that's not the impression I got yesterday in the TL.
Or at least, that onboarding will be more than 'just that' ;)

@Tinkeringbell then y they no answer my comment?

@Zoeisonstrike Not private enough?
Dunno...
Perhaps I'm just too optimistic, but that rarely happens...

@Tinkeringbell they could say "we are [not] planning other things[, and we'll get back with more details later]"
It's effectively a long yes/no question

@Zoeisonstrike Yeah... there's loads of those out there without answers XD
I get that it's especially frustrating though.

1:31 PM
Yeah, especially given the number of times I've brought up onboarding regarding the thing:tm: without getting anything

> "I want to maximise the good I do while we're still getting data dumps and stuff"
"There's a change coming in anywhere from today to within two weeks that, if the mods who made the statements follow through on them, will result in at least two resignations on SO"
I had assumed the change was about "while we're still getting data dumps". Apparently it is about onboarding.
either way, I am pretty confident it will be bad based on Zoe words.
Have to buy more pop corn.
Alas, quite fun that the "onboard" push could cause "at least two resignations on SO"
that is called "off"-board in my book.

I agree it'll likely be bad, and I don't blame those mods for wanting to resign when it happens.

aaaaaaand good grief for Tink calling it bad when she usually has quite a "milder" (sorry for the lack of a better word) approach.
By which I mean that what you call "bad" usually other mods call "horrible"
That said, I will worry about it after the weekend.
@Tinkeringbell Just let me make a little guess if you can answer... More (useless) work for you mods?

@SPArcheon it is unrelated to the data dumps, fwiw
The data dumps are stable for thr time being

1:41 PM
@Zoeisonstrike just lacking context and the two messages coming one after another made me thing they were related

That's fair, I'm just confirming it isn't the case - fortunately. Axing the data dumps again won't go over well

@SPArcheon Possibly for me, yes. Definitely for Zoe.

@SPArcheon a lot of avoidable work, and a lot that'll go undetected because it'll open for a type of abuse that can be concealed to the point where It's impossible to confirm it's abuse

So it is probably some other "SO-centric" thing (I assume the difference is that she is a SO mod, you aren't). Oh well, I will worry when they announce it.

It'll be launched to SO first, and the network if the test is a success

1:52 PM
That's what they say for everything that launches on SO first though, and more often than not it just stays there :P
(Which is admittedly what I'm hoping for now too)

@Tinkeringbell this is trivial to roll out to the rest of the network though

Yeah, that's true.

@Tinkeringbell I hope they abort the test early, and realise they ran into exactly what we warned them about

I'll cross my fingers.

2:06 PM
Indeed. I still wonder when they'll post it

Hopefully on US time, while we're blissfully unaware and asleep :P

Speak for yourself, I screwed my sleep schedule :p

Mine seems screwed up lately too... and I dunno why, I'm still doing the same things I always did but can't fall asleep at night and can't wake up when the alarm goes off...
At least I'll be pretending to be asleep :P

2:23 PM
:p

2:35 PM
@Tinkeringbell in my case it was major illness that screwed my sleeping schedule year ago, hopefully in your case it's just something random and short that will go away soon...
(I always used to sleep only 4-5 hours, but when sick I felt tired much more than usual, and even adding more sleep hours didn't help)

oh, I was worried that question didn't got the hater usual downvote yet. Lucky someone bumping it with a reply made them notice they didn't serial downvote it yet

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I'm not suspecting major illness. My two options right now are a.) increased coffee intake since acquiring an automatic espresso machine or b.) seasonal things.

@Tinkeringbell ah, likely the coffee then. ;)

The sleep problems are much more recent than acquiring the coffee machine though, and I'm not really drinking that much coffee
Where I used to only drink coffee at the office I may now also have a cup or two on weekends.

@SPArcheon hmm? What question?

2:44 PM
Someone upvoted and bumped this old question on Sci-Fi.

Q: Did anyone other than Luna take responsibility for "Dream Duty"?

SPArcheonS3E6 episode "Sleepless in Ponyville" introduces a new task that Luna is doing other than simply raising the moon at night. Scootaloo: You are so, so much better than The Headless Horse. But what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in Canterlot? Princess Luna: I am the princess of the night. Th...

soon after someone downvoted the question and the answer.

@SPArcheon ah, so you have an admirer serial downvoter? Respect. ;)

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Naah, this isn't about me. While the answer is kinda confused and could justify the downvote, this matches a pattern that I notice. Most MLP questions on that site soon or later get a single downvote, and usually at the same time every answer is downvoted too.

@Tinkeringbell probably just taking time for the body to react... or maybe like you said seasonal... or maybe random.... but I hope you'll get your sleep schedule back on track soon! :-)

so it is mostly a "I hate ponies on my site" issue.

Something interesting, recently I remember my dreams "better", bit after waking up. But then it's gone, e.g. now I can't remember at all any of the dreams, just that I remembered when waking up, which wasn't the case before.
Brain is SO odd!
!!install new brain

2:47 PM
~ That is all gibberish to me...

:(
@SPArcheon well guess you already tried to get mod/CM attention to it? Or not yet?
Chances you'll get the help you want are slim, but still exist...

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda actually that is pretty common. That is why they usually suggest keeping a dream diary first thing after waking up.
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda bof, I am not even sure it is worth the effort.

@SPArcheon who are "they"? I don't have any problem with the dreams, they're not bad and don't think they're very good, just.... dreams.

As now, I am mostly amused at them making a clown of themselves.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda all the "how to remember dreams better" tutorials and guides.
usually the first step to any lucid dream guide.

@SPArcheon ahh lol, well yeah, that's quite clear. But as long as I don't have problem with sleep or dreams, no need to.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda again, mostly interesting in relation to lucid dreams. Which are by itself a very odd thing.

2:51 PM
I do remember some past dreams though.
Most clear is the classic one, where I die, it repeated for few weeks, but years ago, and don't think it was back since then.
I think it was a while after I took part in war, so making sense, and nothing to wonder about...
2006? hmm...

3:07 PM
@Bella_Blue Would these things use generative AI, or something else? — Andreas moved to Codidact 20 hours ago
No answer.
Yet.

3:56 PM
I'm increasingly afraid they plan to use genAI as a way to reduce the curator work deficit
Automation is all well and good, to be clear, but not when it involves genAI. The unfriendly bot, for example, uses a specially trained neural network for detecting sentiment, which is fine. It's trash, but that's an implementation issue that they just didn't care enough to fix. There's also many other areas of tooling that would benefit from automation, but again, not genAI
The function of the automatic vote fraud detection systems have been common knowledge for years, so lots of vote fraudsters know how to get around it. Fixing it would save mods a ton of work
Automatically blocking certain kinds of comments, for example, is a low-effort but huge impact way to reduce the time spent on noise moderation. It can be done with just regex, but can reduce noise, and be used as an onboarding measure (for example by directing people to vote when blocking a "thanks" comment)
Multiple kinds of trivial pattern matching-based systems can also be used for onboarding and reducing problematic content posted to main. Imagine a simple regex for detecting a link-only answer, for example; it could prevent some link-only answers from being posted, and instruct them how to answer properly
This is why I've repeated "onboarding" so many times; it won't be a magic fix for everything, but the positive impact it can have on both engagement and reducing the curation workload without tanking quality is enormous if implemented properly

4:33 PM
@Zoeisonstrike which will alienate the few remaining curators and push them to stop curating completely.
let me check...

@SPArcheon Yep

@Zoeisonstrike nod (?)

They've already said they're planning to allow gemini users to post questions to SO from gemini, which then will be reviewed by curators
Which the company thought was fine, because it's curators and not moderators, so it's fine
@Karsten the intent isn't to create additional work for moderators. I think a more accurate way to explain how this will work is if a Gemini user doesn't receive a satisfactory response there, they'll be able to submit their question to Stack Overflow. Like any question on the platform, it needs to meet the same standards and guidelines and can be closed if it does not. The article uses "Moderators" when, in our model, everyone takes moderator actions. — Rosie ♦ Mar 13 at 20:24
I still suspect we're quickly getting closer to the company discarding the genAI ban and just pushing genAI content to main

@Zoeisonstrike there is something that Dwarf Fortress call "Tantrum Spiral". I think they could benefit from reading about it a little :P

4:41 PM
@Zoeisonstrike We could propose to add the ability to generate images with the Stable Diffusion XL model inside questions (even better, use the Pony XL model)

Honestly, I'm close to losing hope that we'll ever get any critical features that aren't genAI-related somehow

4:55 PM
@Zoeisonstrike I say they should announce the plan this sunday.

I half doubt it

Many country will be celebrating Easter, seem a good time to post some controversial stuff while fewer users are online.

That's why I half doubt it - holidays also means no CMs are around to post it

Isn't that even better? :P

They need someone to post it :p

5:00 PM
@Zoeisonstrike just have chatgpt prepare the post, it will take 5 minutes

> "You are a Stack Overflow CM.
Write an article summarizing the following feature. Your writing style should be buzword oriented, focusing on AI and alienating older users. You must try to explain as little as possible using the maximum amount of words."
Here, I already got the prompt ready...

For the thing I've been talking about, they've posted a draft internally
So the post already exists

even better then
