Well I had a semi-good weekend at least. Spend basically all day yesterday crafting, and the cardigan I started crocheting before winter is finally nearing completion...
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda No, there was noise ;) But I have a 'chamber fountain' now, and the slight low buzz of the pump and the water sounds help drown some of it out. The rest required music ;)
He's cutting back (because it's getting too expensive, yay for taxes :P) so there's less stench, it also helps that the extra 'room' he's building at the back of his house has a roof now, so he smokes there instead of at the front door, and most stench lingers under it and doesn't immediately waft over to me.
It's still going to stink again this summer when I want to be outdoors, there's no really avoiding that, I guess... but inside my apartment, there's much less annoyance now.
Not just wars... but those stopping would please me, yes.
Also things like knowing how many people over here live in poverty, and how harsh other people are when it comes to that...
I mean, there's a new ad on TV for EuroDisney. Its background music is 'part of your world' from the little mermaid, which is a song about going to a place that's out of reach...
Almost like they're gloating: Look how many people can't afford a trip to Disney!
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda It's also not the ad that's most harsh, that's just people's opinions. I see/hear too many 'get a better job' 'healthy food isn't expensive, sending your kid to school without breakfast is abuse that shouldn't be fixed by the government giving it breakfast but giving it better parents' etc.
@Tinkeringbell well I can't help much and won't fall to offer trivial advise (e.g. "don't take the world's burdens on your shoulders") so can only hope you'll get past this point, sooner than later. ;)
@Tinkeringbell well like anything else, there are lines. e.g. I read or watched something (don't remember details) about a rich woman who sent her kids to school without any food on purpose, and without any money to buy food there, on purpose. Now that's just evil, and abuse, and such people should be locked for life and never raise children.
But yeah, when one really can't afford, and really trying to get better, it can't really be their fault.
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Sure, there are evil people out there, or ones that would abuse 'the system'. Still, I hate that some others think this means it's better to not have a system
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact I prefer it to be 'fun random' news for a bit, if you don't mind? :P
I'll start XD Local news had an item about a 70+ year old lady that ran a world record time on the half marathon for the 70+ year old category... her reaction? "I'm going on vacation and I'm not touching those running shoes again for the next three weeks"
> Did you know? It is estimated that there are more than 33 billion chickens worldwide! Outnumbering the human population, chickens are one of the most common farm animals. Get the s-coop on these eggs-traordinary animals here!
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda The argument here is that the three we currently have are 'too old'. So what? Make them scrap metal... and spend the billions on solving actual problems instead of big-dickery for the navy.
Like I said, it's not like the submarines get any use anyways... the regular navy boats, sure... they get some use when there's pirates again, but you never read that a submarine successfully sank a bunch of pirates...
@Tinkeringbell oh, I see. Well I do agree submarines are important and gives a big benefit, but no need for 20, or even 10, or probably even four. Experts decide how many are needed, and every extra is just a mistake.
@Tinkeringbell nah, think it's part of the "doomsday plan", i.e. way to carry nukes from one place to the target place.
Most countries these days already have good aerial protection, so a way to stab them from the back ocean is important.
Well if they're really that important, the government/navy is doing a lousy job of propaganda in convincing me of that... All news articles I've seen so far are basically only saying we need new ones because the old ones are old. Nothing else to justify spending billions
If they really were that important I would at least expect regular news articles on the successes of 'our' submarines.
(taken with a seriously big grain of salt of course because they would be propaganda, but still)
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact Yeah well it's not like the submarines are actually working to make the regime fall. The whole army here is doing nothing "because NATO hasn't been attacked yet".
If they really want to prove they need this, go make a war already and fix the problem before it gets worse.
How hard can it be to assassinate one ruler?
Surely there's specially trained people that don't need a submarine for that.
Anyhow... all these things are making me cranky again. I just want the government to fix the housing market, healthcare, living wages, and pensions before buying submarines.

@Rosie "if a Gemini user doesn't receive a satisfactory response there, they'll be able to submit their question to Stack Overflow" -- where will the searching for existing answers (duplicates) come in in that sequence of steps? Or are we just going to get more low-effort crap dumped on us to clean up (and inevitably get flak for doing so)? — Dan MašekMar 13 at 21:09

@KevinB :D :D | However, not that I read it, somehow I wrote "answers", but I really had "questions" in mind. If it's something that has been asked many times before, but never got any answers... well, probably no point asking that yet again. — Dan MašekMar 13 at 21:28
@PetəíŕdTheLinuxWizard ~ A few more hours and this room will be frozen ...
