@AnnZenat1YearAnniversary I don't think Schindler is uh, lively enough to meet us in this chat

6:08 AM
@M.A.R. and same for the cat
@AnnZenat1YearAnniversary yes users with 100 rep can make the room become "Gallery", which means only room owners or users with explicit write access can post messages. RO can give explicit write access to users, and users who can't post messages can request access which send notification to all room owners. (I think, not 100% sure it's inbox notification, but the requests can be seen somewhere.)

@Ann as @M.A.R politely reminded me, it's 1000 reputation, not 100, and it's an actual privilege on its own: meta.stackexchange.com/help/privileges/gallery-chat-rooms

Does anyone have an opinion on whether the value of a reputation point is increasing or decreasing?

@AnnZenat1YearAnniversary As far as I'm concerned, as long as the privilege thresholds stay the same, the value also is the same.
Because that's really the only thing you can 'buy' with reputation points.
There isn't really a value otherwise.
I mean, supposedly their value is 'to show others that you're capable of writing valuable contributions', but as a mod I can tell you that's a nice idealistic goal but not how it works in reality: Some people have > 1000 reputation just from 1 answer, others definitely have quantity over quality, or got lucky on HNQ.

@Tinkeringbell Good point.
@Tinkeringbell You mean buying a spot in the bounties tab? But if more and more users place bounties in the future, placing bounties would get less and less effective, no?

@AnnZenat1YearAnniversary More thinking of things like real-life 'reward programs'. For example, each package of coffee here comes with '40 points' that you can save, and if you have enough you can trade them in for coffee cups, coffee machines, etc. Reputation points aren't really like that.
But you're right, you can 'buy' some spotlight for your question by adding a bounty. I don't know if those prices have 'inflated' over the years (as in: no one bothers with 50 rep bounties anymore), that's actually a fun question. Maybe rene can SEDE something together :P

@Tinkeringbell :D

1:28 PM
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard you would have preferred "IT'S 1000 REP YOU CIGARETTE SMOKE WIZARDLING!"?
That's as good as my insults get when I'm spontaneous. Gimme some time and I can be more creative
@AnnZenat1YearAnniversary what Tink said but it's more complex than that. For everyone else 36k and 36.4k rep don't make any difference at all.

2:19 PM
@M.A.R. But it'll be very difficult to convince a user with 36.4k rep to place a 400 rep bounty :)

3:12 PM
@AnnZenat1YearAnniversary Because while 37k is not more than 36k for anyone else, including the OP, 60k is
