@ShadowTheBurningWizard Could you please reconsinder your duplication mark of meta.stackexchange.com/q/341657/680560

@Jogge why? It's 100% the same request.

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Read the comments.

Give a reason and I'll reconsider, but if I wasn't sure, I wouldn't vote to close.

@ShadowTheBurningWizard I'm questioning the purpose of having a sort function for Oldest. I don't think it's the same question, my suggestion is to replace the Oldest with Newest, since it's makes more sense. Not by adding a Newest next to the Oldest

@Jogge hmm... OK, fair enough. I'll reopen but also don't want such a thing, so will downvote. And to be honest... there will probably be much more. People like the sorting by oldest and won't like to see it go.

11:49 AM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard Fair enough. Feel free to argument why there should be an oldest in the comments of the question.
btw "People like the sorting by oldest and won't like to see it go." is not an argument for having it. Please also argument why they want it.

@Jogge not much to explain, it's just a feature many people are familiar with and use. Personally I don't use it a lot, but don't want to have it removed.
For old time users "I'm used to this feature" is reason enough, IMO.

But no one uses it.

When it comes to new users, it's a different story, and can't speak on their behalf. :)

Only to see the newest

@Jogge how do you know?? You have stats? Doubt even SE got such stats.
For all I know, many people do use it.

11:52 AM
Give me a real example where you want to see the oldest answers first
You always wants the newest answer first, not the oldest.

12:04 PM
@Jogge no,
Well, I don't. :)
So you can't make a rule based on your opinion only.

Q: When is it justifiable to downvote a question?

aevitasIn light of recent discussion, the quality of questions on Stack Overflow is dropping rapidly, and as such, I find myself being more of a critic than I used to be a year ago. Questions which hardly show any effort on the part of the asker are becoming more and more prevalent, oftentimes just con...

@Jogge what about it? How is it related?

@ShadowTheBurningWizard I don't see how you can justify your downvote.

@Jogge I don't have to, but I did: I don't agree with what you suggest. That's the main reason for downvotes on meta sites, and Meta Stack Exchange is a meta site.
Even a perfectly written question can get 100 downvotes.
Heck... even "questions" posted by SE senior staff get -1000 here.
Because people just don't agree what's being said.

> Voting is different on meta.
Like normal Stack Exchange sites, Meta allows members to vote on questions and answers. For most posts, votes reflect the perceived usefulness: well-written, well-reasoned, well-researched posts tend to get more attention and more upvotes. Highly-voted and frequently-linked posts may become part of the community-curated FAQ or codified as part of the site’s Help pages.

Unlike normal Stack Exchange sites, Meta invites the community to discuss, debate and propose changes to the way the community itself behaves, as well as how the software itself works. On posts

That MSO discussion is about main site, namely Stack Overflow, not meta sites.

~ Not everything is star-worthy...

Over there, the key point is the question quality, how useful it is for others, etc, and not whether you agree with that being said or not.

Alright, i'm out. I will never come back to Meta sites again.
Bye.

That said I think -10 sometimes sends enough of a message, and MSE might overdo it from time to time ;)
That's not necessary... MSE is a bit weird, and if people don't want to sort by oldest they're likely to downvote a post requesting such a sort... The only thing here is that you'll also lose reputation if they do.

If you want to, you can still do child Meta sites (like meta.stackoverflow.com) where downvotes don't give you a reputation loss :)
It's just that they also don't discuss network-wide stuff like requesting a sort by newest..

meh, not the first and surely not the last to misunderstand how meta works and not want to learn. :/
