@Sha do you regex?
@Joe do you regex?
I need regex guru.
@Sha do you regex?

1:47 PM

2:07 PM
@berserk nope.... disliked it since my very early days and still dislike it. Prefer 100 lines of readable code over 1 line of regex.

lol
this regex is killing me
I am thinking of checking format manually

throwing wet regex on @ber

just want to check if a string is valid UTC offet format or not
like +03:47

@berserk yup, manual is your best bet

public static boolean isTimeZone(String format) {
    if (format.equals("00:00"))
        return true;
    if (format.length() != 6)
        return false;
    if (!format.startsWith("+") && !format.startsWith("-"))
        return false;
    String subString = format.substring(1);
    String arr[] = subString.split(":");
    if (arr.length != 2)
        return false;
    if (arr[0].length() != 2 && arr[1].length() != 2)
        return false;
    try {
        Integer.parseInt(arr[0]);
        Integer.parseInt(arr[1]);
made this logic lol
wait... damn
what do you think? @Sha

2:19 PM
@berserk if (arr[0].length() != 2 && arr[1].length() != 2) should be if (arr[0].length() != 2 || arr[1].length() != 2)
It's invalid if either of them is not length of 2, not both

yeah, I know
just in case lol

Don't you have TryParse() method? Would be more elegant

tho that case will never occur
@ShadowWizard eh?

@berserk in C# I can do such a thing:
int num;
if (!Int32.TryParse("hello", out num))
    throw new Exception("invalid number!");
(or just return false)

you mean to check if it is int?

2:21 PM
More elegant than actually converting and catching error
@berserk yup
instead of relying on Integer.parseInt(arr[0]); to throw an error and catch it

@ShadowWizard umm.. but isn't it same thing? I mean TryParse mut also be converting to check, isn't it?
@ShadowWizard nope, nothing like that

@berserk hmm... might be, but it's hidden from me so more elegant. ;)

lol
throw new Exception("invalid number!");
So, it is also throwing exception basically :P

@berserk friendly error, instead of the generic language error :D
I love friendly code and error messages :D

lol
biased :P
