A web part on sharepoint should display some data fetched from a external, internet public web service. The web part fails with an "unable to connect" message.

Knowing that:

a) I haven't got any access to the SharePoint server machine, can't know it's setting and such - only way to interact with it is to ask the client to deploy a new wsp

b) the client won't check the server machine settings to determine if some policy/proxy setting/other blocks the connection.

c) the call must remain server side because some offices have group policy that blocks internet connection

How can I:

a) divinate a way to make the call work without knowing what server setting is blocking it

b) avoid strangling someone in the process

Currently I am felling like a NASA engineer working to control some mars rover remotely.

Send a command

wait some weeks for it to reach the drone

hope the drone works

wait some other weeks for the data from the drone to reach me

wonder one the error "Drone status: cannot move left"

The mayor difference is that my drone external cam is broken, so I can't see the surrounding, see if the drone has fall in a crater, is near a wall, or such.... only know that it can't move left....

@ShadowWizard Actually, seriously speaking (a thing that I can at most do for a minute or such so gotta try to be fast) the problem ISN'T SharePoint. Even if the webpart were a simple asp page on an IIS server it would be the same. Even if it was a java server page on tomcat instance it would be the same. Something blocks intenet access on the server, I can't know what this something is and I have to make the call work.
