Its very frustrating that nobody cares about close votes: these are actually posts that "spam" SO... What will happen if we decide to close ALL posts in the close queue, just to make a "fresh start"? How about closing all posts in queue inactive for XX days?

11:50 AM
@Shai per what I observe, SE team does not perceive frustration you mention as widespread. Ignoring suggestions on how to make review more efficient rather speaks in favor of assumption that they don't give a shit (yet). As for closing-all to make a fresh start, this idea is not exactly new...
...I saw many suggestions to make something similar. As of now, most popular variation of it is here:

A: Huge close votes review queue on Stack Overflow

RosinanteTo reduce the backlog: define a function: close(p) = .... where the right hand side includes the number of close votes, the total rep of all the close voters, the net vote score of the post, the number of answers to the post, and the age of the post. In other words, 3 close votes from high-rep...

> 3 close votes from high-rep users, on a negative-score question, with no answers, should just close the thing. Or some rule like that. Then we could concentrate on content that had some chance of having value
And, again, the fact that nothing like that is being done (above post is dated Oct 18 '12, about 10 months ago, go figure)...
...that very fact speaks in favor of assumption that SE team has good reasons to keep the status quo
or let's say they think these reasons are good

So, are there more people who shares our views regarding this unacceptable status of the close votes queue? Is there a way to organize them/us so that SE team will listen to our voice?

1:37 PM
@Shai well, to be precise I am not yet committed to "unacceptable status of the close votes queue". To be even more precise, I was committed before, but given considerations I put above, I am not sure anymore. There is a related thing I find unacceptable though, namely the fact that suggestions on how to drain the queue are being ignored without a reasonable explanation. I mean, I don't really know,...
...maybe there are good reasons to keep it large after all. I would not mind to get an explanation like "we prefer to keep status quo (for a while), for such and such reasons". The fact that suggested improvements are neither implemented nor declined with a reasonable explanation, now that what makes me worry
as for the way to organize people, well this seems to be what MSO is for...
> This site is for meta-discussion of the Stack Exchange family of Q&A websites.
simply put, discussing the issues at MSO is expected to organize community and help SE team to resolve these

okay.

@Shai don't get me wrong, I would want to see queue drained. But looking at multiple fruitless attempts to move things into this direction, I am thinking maybe we are missing something here. That's what made me change my mind from "let's drain it" to "let's understand why suggestions to drain it don't have an effect"
until I figure why suggestions look like ignored, I can't figure how to make a suggestion that would be implemented, stuff like that
looking into my profile I can see at least 5 bounties related to questions about CV queue size. I want to figure why these made no difference :)

okay. I see your point. So, if you manage to make any progress, I would appreciate it if you caould forward the news to me as well. If there's anything I can do to help this inquiry - just let me know.

@Shai thanks! as of now, the best I can think of is to ask a meta question like...
What could possibly go wrong when (if) Stack Overflow CV queue drains?
...or like...
What are anticipated consequences of draining Stack Overflow CV queue?
you know, question about something... something based on projections like I wrote about above. Question that could potentially pull out answers like. "Yes that's a real reason to worry, because..." or "No, that won't be problem, because..." Which in turn...
...would help me figure, how to proceed further. And where to put my bounties to make a difference :)
I just need time to polish it. That's somewhat complicated. And somewhat new, because for a few past months I was focusing efforts in a different direction, pushing to get it done, to break it through...
...Rather difficult to convert mind into asking stuff that sounds almost opposite, like what could be a good reason to keep it as is. Words don't come easy to me :)
