Q: 2011 Moderator Election - Town Hall Chat Digest

Josh This is still being posted I will remove this message when the digest is complete The following is a "digest" version of the 2011 Moderator Election Town Hall Chat. The format, as described on Meta Stack Overflow, is one answer to this question for every question asked in the Town Hall,...

Heheh

@TimStone I send $50 in unicorn dollars your way as thanks for the Apple digest

I saw, thanks :)
I stayed up working on the script, but that backfired on account of me then passing out around 5ish, heh.

@TimStone oh no! I'm sorry :-(
Don't kill yourself over this script!!
Oh and on that topic...
in Unix & Linux Town Hall Chat on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 37 secs ago, by Josh
All the digests lose links; this is the way Yi Jiang's script works. Maybe Tim STone's script will be better in this regard?

Hahah, oh, no, don't worry.

Hm, how do you mean?

this is a link. as is this
Candidate The OutOfStars Exception answered: this is a link. as is this

Ahhh.

**Candidate [${user.name}](http://${permalink}) answered:** ${content.plain}
actually... maybe it's user error
Candidate The OutOfStars Exception answered: <a href="http://google.com" rel="nofollow">this</a> is a link. <a href="http://meta.stackoverflow.com">as is this</a>
Nope. It's not :-)
I remember trying this before. links get lost as does formatting. But at least it's equal, and, all the answers have the "answered" permalink so people can hop into the transcript at that point

Yeah, I'm sure we can make that work.

@MichaelMrozek everyone vote for Michael
LOL. Do I still post that as an answer? :-/

Hah :P
Uhmm

I feel like it's incomplete without a "closer"
@Dori you're not around to weigh in here are you? :-)
in The Tavern (General), 3 mins ago, by balpha
is there any value at all in putting those into the digest?
in The Tavern (General), 3 mins ago, by balpha
I don't see any, so I vote for no
in The Tavern (General), 3 mins ago, by drachenstern
@TheOutOfStarsException I think in general unless at least one candidate has something constructive to say (beyond "thanks mwah you're all beautiful") then leave off Final Thoughts on that particular THC
in The Tavern (General), 3 mins ago, by Tim Stone
It feels wrong without a closer, but I blame the candidates for that ;)
in The Tavern (General), 3 mins ago, by Tim Stone
@TheOutOfStarsException Just say that @RebeccaChernoff fell asleep and the Town Hall just kind of trailed off.
in The Tavern (General), 3 mins ago, by drachenstern
@TheOutOfStarsException leave it hanging. That works good for movies.

So when'e the next Town hall? :-)

Actually... I have an idea

zanlokSince there's a moderator election about to happen here on sa.se, and since I've been wondering this in general for se sites... doesn't the word nomination seem inaccurate? bummzackI had a look at the moderator candidates and 3 very good candidates reside more or less in the same timezone (according to their profile-page). Q: Does a moderator candidate need to divulge the real name?

George S.There are high reputation users like T.., Moron and others, who have a good track record and thus can be viable moderator candidates. It would be nice if the requirement of divulging the real name is relaxed, so that such people can contest in the elections if they so wish.

8
Q: Minimum reputation for voting in moderator elections

George S.If you associate an account at Stackoverflow and such sites to an account at this website, you automatically get 100 reputation and voting abilities and whatnot. So without putting any mathematical effort whatsoever, a lot of people can become voters in the elections. Not good. So I propose that...

Q: What is the reason for insisting on self-nomination?

George S.Out of curiosity, I looked at an old election thread here. There the OP who was co-ordinating the nominations posits: I think we can all agree that self-nominations should be prohibited. Jay Lance PhotographySo perhaps this is a dumb question (wouldn't be the first time), but I guess I was under the impression that the mods we're in the process of electing would be augmenting those that we already have, not replacing them.
