Is making a new GPO for each piece of software insane for any reason?

@KyleBrandt It would depend on the total number of packages and client as well as what amount of management work you consider insane.
I have seen a single GPO that installed over a dozen of packages (including via logon script) -- that was a bear to update/troubleshoot.

Should not be that much software
Just servers

1:36 PM
It may be worth breaking the packages in to GPOs which contain collections of titles targeting specific server configurations.

@jscott: Nice answer on SF, thanks.

e.g. "Base collection", stuff that belongs on all servers: NSClient, 7-zip, etc

@jscott: That is what I was orginally going to do but this piece of software goes on everything
Oh I didn't think of that

Then create more specific, targeted collections for only certain servers.

Yes I will do it that way if there are not downsides

1:38 PM
Well, there is more "going-on" withing that "collection" GPO.
Either you manage larger, complex GPOs, or you manage lots of little GPOs and all their links.

For software what is the downside of larger complex GPO?

Kind of a preference call. Some people like to think/manage everything in little tiny bits. Other can see the whole-block in detail
Downside?
It's more troubleshooting (i think) when you have more things going on in a single GPO

I mean, if I want to remove a particular piece of software, or upgrade one .. wil that be more tricky if it is in a GPO with other software?

Not really tricky per se... You just need to document what the intent of the "collection" policy is and make sure others can grok it before they go mucking-about editing it.
Wonder what this guy's SF username is?

Is delegation for DFS administration permissions or access permissions?

1:49 PM
You want to let user create DFS shares or just manage files/folders in a DFS share?

Just read
And I want machines to be able to read ...
Is that just the permissions on the share itself?

Yes, share/ntfs perms will allow read/write/modify. Machines shouldn't need to manage/create DFS shares.

Hmmm.... install failed with "The installation Source for this product is not available"

Eh. It's the more .NETty way of doing it, since you have methods to call and results are returned in the same way. Other people just use "sc.exe" in a batch-file, or called from PowerShell. I guess it depends on how much you want to know the results.

depends on where, but in some parts of pa (away from the resorts) you can get land as cheap as like 90$/acre i think my friend said
yea pennslytucky

I don't think you see land that cheap here, probably due to farming.
e.g. If a crop can grow on it, its worth more than $90

I miss summer.
It was here a day ago, but the mean weatherman says we'll be stuck with this for the next week.

4:27 PM
Just think yourself lucky you don't live in the UK! We had a summer too, it was a Tuesday I think.

Ours was a bit longer, maybe three weeks.
You're on a warm ocean current, and we're on a cold one. But the effect is still the same. Marine pushes unless high pressure is dominating.

Here in Oregon, we had an itty bitty summer

Yeah, it was a short one this year in the PacNW.

71 and sunny here :) It beats the "85 & humid" we had the past month.

You see, that's what we call 'summer' out here. Up here, people start melting at 85, even when the dewpoint is in the 50's.

@Doug Your mom will care when Apple releases a new version of iTunes non-interactively, which disables functionality because they decided that the data they sold you should have different terms.
