Q: Are there any RPG systems specifically designed for larger numbers of players (10+)?

rjstreetI'm currently running a D&D 4E game with anywhere between 14-18 players depending on the time of year. While ai think we do a fairly good job of keeping the story moving, keeping combat from dominating our time and actually having a decent storyline, I'm really curious if there have been any ...

Q: Should there be a tag for closed questions?

NumeneticsI was thinking it might be good to have a way to pull up a list of closed questions. I'm assuming mods can do this, but it might be good even for newcomers, kind of like that "breadcrumb" thing mentioned in the editing question. It would allow someone to see what kinds of questions tend to get ...

Q: When is the site going to be out of beta?

IsziI'm sure I've read it somewhere already, but I can't seem to find it now. Does StackExchange have a page where they have published the milestones required for a site to progress through its various development phases? How close are we to being out of Beta, and becoming a full-fledged site?

Q: How do you handle player wishlists?

Jeremiah GenestIn 4e it almost seems a requirement to allow player wishlists for magic items. How do you manage these? How do you ensure parity?

Q: Forced movement into danger: is there a saving throw?

yhw42Is there a saving throw to stop forced movement (a push, pull, or slide) from forcing you into a square that will damage you? My wizard's tactic lately has been to try to Thunderwave enemies into the Wall of Fire. My DM gave the enemies a chance to save from entering the wall because it would ca...

Q: My Reputation Seems Frozen?

LeguRiIn the past 24-ish hours I've gained 75 rep (or so says my responses) but my score hasn't changed from 768. Anyone else experiencing something like this? Is it because I've only been active on Meta for a while, not the actual rpg.stackexchange 'parent' site?

1:09 PM
Oh hey @Bryant I just realized from your email addr you're "that Bryant" from the Feng Shui list! How the hell are you? I'm the Ernest who's the listowner there. Sorry I didn't realize earlier.

1:30 PM
OH. I knew I knew your name from somewhere!
I'm good!

Q: Which Paizo Adventure Path most lends itself to 4e conversion?

BryantI'm thinking about running an adventure path at work, and I don't really want to run Scales of War or the ENWorld adventure path for various reasons, so Paizo's an obvious place to look. What are the pros and cons of the Paizo adventure paths with an eye towards 4e conversion?

In other news, RS Conley seems to be bringing in more people than about anyone else

I have no trouble believing that. :)

It seems everyone else on the site is way cooler than I am :-)

Oh, hey, I'm right under him. How the hell did I do that?
Oh, cause I click over from my online hotlist all the time.
That's not that impressive. :)

1:42 PM
yeah, chat doesn't count for much either
@mxyzplk We're talking about the new analytics

Where's the emacswiki.org traffic coming from?

good question
@Bryant I think it's this page(German)
Which I think belongs to our own Alex

Aha, cool.

Q: What are the D&D Adventure Paths?

Jeremiah GenestWhat are the various adventure paths? Strengths? Weaknesses? One per answer please.

4:33 PM
Hi @yhw42, What brings you to chat today?

5:02 PM
Oh. I had checked this page out yesterday and had left it open in my browser. Guess I could say Hi!

welcome
any comments on the site so far?

I like it. The answers I've been getting are great!

good, keep asking questions :-)

I'll do it. Anything else I can do to help out?
(besides trying to get my gaming group on board... :)

5:17 PM
spread the word obviously

yup

I see you're already over on meta too, so yeah, that covers the big stuff

Yeah. Hey was there a decision on the usage of the [roleplaying] tag yesterday?

Not yesterday

It looks like it was edited out of most questions (I rolled back one of mine to have it).

5:22 PM
There is this

saw that.

I don't know that there has really been a decision about the tag ... did you have a particular question or use case?

This is the one I rolled back
How did you drop the question in line like that?

You put the whole question link into a message

Q: How to handle knowing more than your character does

yhw42I've read the rules. I know the math. I know, as the player, that X monster is vulnerable to Y damage and if I move through the door 4 squares into the room, my burst 2 will catch every baddie there. But in the 6 seconds since combat started (he's still surprised!), he failed his knowledge check ...

Bingo!

Q: What are some character development tools?

C. RossI have a character that I want to develop slowly through the campaign. By this I mean I want him to slowly mature and change his personality through the sessions. What tool or trick can I use to keep myself on track when roleplaying him?

5:27 PM
yep ... I think that's a valid use of the tag personally

That was another that I thought should keep it.

hmmm, that's certainly not about character-creation ...

That's what I thought, especially given the accepted answer.

Good question btw, a common issue

Thanks!
All right. Lunch is over. Thanks for the welcoming chat (and pulling me out of lurker status :) I'm leavin' the table!

Q: What is an Adventure Path?

Eric WeilnauAfter reading the questions, What are the D&D Adventure Paths? and Which Paizo Adventure Path most lends itself to 4e conversion?, I began to wonder about this term beyond what is self evident. A Google search and the Wikipedia article did not provide much more detail.

So if nobody else has responded to my bounty question, and I went out and pulled back responses from else-board, is it cheesy for me to give myself the bounty? Or can I even do that?

You can't do that
you can answer it, but you can't get the bounty ... in that case the points are just lost

That's kind of a relief.

Q: How can I obtain Custom miniatures?

Jeremiah GenestI wish to get custom minatures for my kids (they play such widely available characters as a Wilden Shaman/Runepriest and a Shardmind Psion). Where can I purchase them? How onerous a process is this? I'm thinking this soudns like a great Christmas present (price depending)

Q: What makes a good pitch for a new game?

Q: What online collaborative communication tools have the most components for roll-playing away from the table?

Felix T. KattI run a lunchtime game session once a week. Due to temporal constraints, we try to keep our sessions around the table limited to the more active aspects of encounters; for example. those that require maps, charts, spreadsheets, figurines and/or copious amounts of dice rolling. As such, we move ...

Q: Can powers grant summoned creatures a "Basic Attack"?

C. RossCan powers that grant a basic attack, like many of the Warlord powers, be used to grant an attack to a summoned creature? If so, what does the summoned creature use for its basic attack? Inspired by Conjuration, Summoning, Pet rules?

Q: What real world skills can RPGs improve?

C. RossWhat real world skills can you improve by playing Role-playing games? Note: Please one answer with your entire list and reasoning per person.

Feng Shui is a martial arts-themed role-playing game, designed by Robin Laws, published first by Daedalus Entertainment and now by Atlas Games. The game shares its setting with the collectible card game Shadowfist. The system is simple, with most detail being in the game's combat system. Combat is made to flow quickly, moving from one action scene to another very quickly. It was inspired and based on Hong Kong style action movies. The characters begin at a high level of skill, as appropriate for protagonists in the source films. In 1999 Pyramid magazine named Feng Shui on its list ...

Ah, yes I've heard of that
heavy focus on cinematic right?

yes
A good intro at the time to "hey, games can have some player narration elements and not be 100% gm-driven." nowadays there's 100 froofy indie games that do that but it was a good transition from the horde of trad games

cool stuff
