The stark difference between what they post on meta with what they tell moderators that their policy is - they repeatedly fail to learn that it will not do them any favors to try and pass the buck to mods and expect to get away with it. Silly people. The rest I remember now. I'd even bookmarked a couple of the posts - but it all passed, didn't make much difference to everyday posts on m favorite sites, so I ignored it mainly after that. @Starship

Oh ha, you noticed. My takes it that the genAI incident was more incompetence than apathy or malicious intent. I see it as less "SE doesn't care about the quality of the site" and more "SE doesn't really know what makes for a high-quality site." Obviously that's still a problem, but it's different from "they've given up."

There are other incidents that match the "profit over quality" narrative, but I don't think this is one of them.
