A: Why Stack Exchange is not open-source?

StarshipBecause it is a company (well more accurately it’s owned by a company) that wants to make money. Being open source would allow for a lot of clones. Particularly with the whole “we have no regard for the community” thing, myself and many other users would probably move to an SE clone run by people...

Many successful SaaS businesses have open-source codebases.
There are plenty of alternative Q&A sites out there - both sites which just clone SE functionality as well as sites with modified approaches to Q&A. That's not a reason to stay on SE.
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz said “topanswers.xyz” where you are (at least) when I looked at it had 100% of the front page in multiple communities being filled with a bunch of users saying how they want certain people being killed. And these posts were 1 or 2 years old and it wasn’t just 1 user either. That doesn’t happen on SE.
@Starship SE is much more often a victim of vandalism.
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz but it gets cleaned up and doesn’t remain for 1 or 2 years. Also, is the entire front page normally vandalism?
6:50 PM
@Starship It got cleaned up on the same evening. The vandalism didn't stay there for 2 years.
The posts were 1 or 2 years old. The fact that something like that can remain for so long is well…not great@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz
@Starship Please get your facts right.
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz I remember seeing that the vast majority of said posts were 1 or 2 years old. They also usually had multiple answers that were either more personal attacks or spam
The posts were years old, but the vandalism happened later and was cleaned up on the same evening.
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz the posts were vandalism…I don’t follow
6:50 PM
Yes, the posts were vandalised. They were vandalised a couple of hours before they were cleaned up. The vandalism did not remain for years. Please don't make such wrong claims.
The post were created a couple of years ago. They were not vandalised when they were created. The vandalism happened recently.
@samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz then why would someone (or a bunch of someone’s) approve that edit. That’s even worse…
Nobody did approve these edits. That's not how the site works.
It didn’t even show that it was edited either…so any random user can go to someone else’s post and write something looking like it was written by a different user? @samcarter_is_at_topanswers.xyz
