The quality doesn't decline GoT style at least.
@Mithoron there's so much lore and context sometimes that it's near impossible I think. Take Dune for example.
We also have to take into account that most of the audience wants bombs to go off and body count to go up, taking the time to understand what the characters really feel has pretty diminishing returns.
Whereas reading a book, you're much less bothered by what has happened before and will happen after the story, and your mind fills in most of the empty slots with familiar experiences unless there's a huge disconnect somewhere

@M.A.R. A little, I have similar somewhat feelings. Hop and Joyce were played well. About kids, Eleven is a pretty interesting role, but I think they didn't completely think it through. It's difficult with really unusual characters.
M.B. Brown did quite a lot to make it work, though.
