A: What was the reasoning behind the deletion of this comment?

BelovedFoolI'm just a regular user so this is basically just my opinion. Note that I didn't read this question you link to, its' answers nor the comments under them (so I basically just read your post here). When I read the comment you left, here is what I noticed (in bold part): @user So, essentially...

I was mostly with you for your answer until... understand what you did wrong reads a bit condescending. just drop it reads similar. (-1)

Understand the context of the comment (see this comment). If someone doesn't understand something, how else do I point out to them that it might be that they're missing something? In this case it was that art (and by extension poetry) is subjective. So the meaning you might take from a poem is not one that someone else might. If you look at the other comments within that post directed it at me, they followed similar patterns e.g...

@SecretAgentMan I edited to the "just drop it" to don't look so harsh. However, I do not understand what is the problem with the "understand what you did wrong". Isn't that why the OP posted their question here? To understand what they did wrong and try to do better next time?

I'd disagree that I was calling someone stupid. You're asserting that telling someone that they might not know something is the same as saying 'You're too stupid'? There are so, so, so many things I don't know, if someone pointed out something I don't automatically think they're calling me stupid. Also, I did flag the other redundant comment and it was declined with no reason whatsoever.

@BelovedFool I appreciate your adjustment. I personally wouldn't use the phrase It can help you understand what you did wrong on here in case someone perceived my answer as stating they'd done something wrong. IMO the votes will do that. I acknowledge this is my subjective reading of the wording and that is separate from your intent.

@Script47 "You're asserting that telling someone that they might not know something [...]" -> Depending on the tone used, yes. It doesn't really matter that you didn't intended to. What matters is that people (especially the person you are talking to) might take it that what.

@BelovedFool right and the matter with the person I was conversing with was closed at that point. We realised we were at an impasse and we both amicably agreed to disagree, yet, after that a comment was deleted. What's the point? People reading into it more than they need to is what's causing issues.

@Script47 Why would you want to keep around something that looks unfriendly? We don't want people to think it's ok to be not nice.

@BelovedFool Please, objectively read this and tell me if this friendly: '@user to be honest, if you really can't see how offensive it is to compare the torture and murder of millions to what happened to Monica, especially given that Monica herself is Jewish, I don't see how anything I say can convince you.'

@Script47 I won't talk about this other comment. If you think it should be deleted, flag it. Your question is about your comment. I'm not going to discuss someone else comment.

My comment is no different to that comment which you refuse to give your opinion on. Actually, I'd posit that it's much worse. Where mine can be mistook as me calling someone "stupid" that implies I'm fine with the butchering of innocent people. Yet, when I flagged it, it was declined.

@Script47 Your comment is different because you asked a question about it. The other person didn't, so I'm not going to discuss their comment.
@SecretAgentMan I edited again. I think it's better now. Any thought about it?

@BelovedFool yes but they're all clearly related which is why I asked for your opinion regarding it. You're viewing them in a vacuum (which is ironic because that's the point that's being made in both posts).

@Script47 I understand your point that comment shouldn't be reviewed separately (and I mostly agree with it) however, it doesn't mean that I should give you my conclusion on someone else comment (and I won't do it).

@Script47 "you might not know something, here let me help" vs. "you don't understand poems and their interpretation (followed by no explanation)" are very different. It doesn't read like you're trying to help the other user learn something about poetry.

@DeNovosupportsGoFundMonica and it didn't seem as though the other user wanted to learn or discuss it further either. When it did seem as though they did, we clarified with each other and life went on and this is the crux of it. If someone is solved and closed why make it into an issue by deleting it (and deleting only a part of it)?
