I was going to post about avoiding pronouns, but that's actually more complicated than I have time to address right now. It isn't as simple a subject as it first appears because it's intertwined with a lot of other things. All the discussion here did give me some insight into another aspect of this, though. That is, why our perspectives seem so far apart.

We're kinda talking about two different things, and the discussion here actually clarified some context for the CoC. So thanks for that. A big part of the difference is "chat vs. Q&A site". They're totally different: different environments, different rules, different participants, different reasons for being there, different interpersonal needs, different moderation problems, etc.

The CoC (FAQ) is a solution for the needs of chat rooms, but it's a square peg in a round hole for the Q&A sites, especially the technical sites.

You apparently spend time in chat and are looking at the CoC to address the needs you have there. Those needs weren't even on my radar. I've been looking at the CoC purely from the perspective of technical Q&A sites. From that vantage, some of the issues you raised didn't seem relevant to anything "real".

I think a lot of the Meta posts and comments are similarly people talking past each other about essentially different things. I now have a better understanding of where you're coming from, but we do have very different perspectives.

@Xirema, I tried to organize some thoughts about some of the key points you raised, but they're very complex issues and it made my brain hurt. :-)
