@Clonkex For Russian Orthodox Christians (according to my friend) they have Royal Hours and Vespers and other services on Christmas Eve. If your asking about Jewish holidays - they all start at sunset not morning (and its as close an analogy as can be made because there is no Christian holiday that is really like Yom Kippur but "Christmas" should at least convey the importance of this holiday in the Jewish religion).

@LinkBerest Interesting, thanks for the information. As I mentioned, Monica's analogy worked well because I immediately understood the meaning, but then I became confused as to what was the source of the analogy.

@Clonkex The timing isn't appropriate. The analogy is meant to convey the importance (which seem still, not understood).

@Clonkex The reality is that there's not a good analogy to a Christian practice. Yom Kippur is intense and long and we separate ourselves from the rest of the world. Jews who have experienced it have a really hard time explaining it to those who haven't. I was just trying to explain it to my (very secular) sibling and failed utterly.

@Cyn Interesting. Tbh I'd never even heard of the holiday before Monica talked about it so definitely don't know anything about it.

@MonicaCellio I have been reading the discussions and trying to follow the events. While your story makes sense, am I correctly understanding that you were just a moderator, and not staff? If so, then they really do not owe you anything, do they? Why such entitlement?

@Atizs Yes, businesses do owe their volunteers something. Especially ones that have poured their heart and soul into the company for many years.

@Clonkex I'm always shocked when Christians know nothing about the religion their religion branched off from, but I also don't know where you live/are from and maybe you haven't met Jews before. I'm in the United States and there are still a lot of people who haven't the faintest idea what a Jew is or what we believe. Here's a good source for you and others: jewfaq.org/holiday4.htm

@Cyn I'm Australian. I don't really see why you're so shocked by my lack of knowledge of Judaism. I mean... I'm not a Jew. I'm not under the law of the Old Testament, and I don't follow Jewish practices. It's a bit like saying "I'm always shocked when today's computer users know nothing about the IBM PC that their computer is branched off from". It's interesting to know about, but it's just not.... relevant.
