@jpmc26 I think this is a revelation that's been missing for much of our interactions with new users.
Nobody likes being told they're wrong, or that they're doing it wrong, and that's what criticism (in downvotes, close votes, or just comments) feels like.
Professionals are able to take that criticism and deal with it in a non-professional manner, as that's what their job entails.
Everybody who codes can't do that; and I bet you that's why so many feel SO is hostile.
I think this is why setting expectations up front is so important; that has to include that critique isn't personal, and taking it as such won't help anybody.
