my best analogy at the moment: it's like as if Home Owner Association made a mistake in their rule to allow anyone to use a water tap in the apartment building foyer and to show them how non-perfect their rules are someone decided to open the tap and flood the entire first floor, while technically obeying the rules.

I'm not, I'm speaking more philosophically and meta

The number of mods who are upset is higher than the ones who have actively done something. The main thing has been the way that SE staff treats mods. It's a form of TAs having to do all the work with no input from the professors or department. Then the department chair getting mad that the TAs did the wrong thing months later.
