A: Efficiency of review queues - too many "aged away" flags

Shog9I have a few thoughts on this. But first, let's get a broad picture of how many close flags actually age away. I've collected all close flags and close votes on Stack Overflow over the past 24 months, separated them by close reason, and charted the percentage raised in each month that aged away: ...

That's related, believe it or not.
I liked the old Not a Real Question close reason, FWIW. I think it tended to encourage folks to think a bit when using it. One of the downsides of moving to more specific, descriptive close reasons is that it becomes possible for folks to look at questions through the lens of what they know can be closed, rather than seeing a problem and fishing around for a tool to solve it.
That said... Not Constructive and Too Localized were terribly misused.
As is, of course, Too Broad
The saving grace for Too Broad is that it isn't actually used that much.
over the past 30 days, 4877 questions were closed as Too Broad
That's about 2% of questions asked during the same period
That's not a small number of questions, but it's hardly a crushing amount either
My big concern is that it is too hard to reopen them
Only 62 "too broad" questions reopened during the same period
that's... pathetic
I would prefer a system that allows more questions to be closed, and more to be reopened.
I think too many questions are closed by people who lack the experience to say what is answerable
But the bigger problem is that too few can be reopened by people who have the experience to know what is answerable
I don't much mind that inexperienced users cannot waste time trying to answer questions closed by other inexperienced users, but depriving experienced people of an opportunity to share their experience is a great waste.
