@jpmc26 I totally agree that there needs to be some sort of specific statement about where SE is going. And I agree they won't do it because everyone who thinks quality is key will bail the instant they do. As it is, I'm pretty darn close to bailing already. There's so many other things I can be doing, other than stressing about a company willing to shoot itself in the foot multiple times.

Saw the comments section got nuked and came here to see if there was any response to the overwhelming dislike of this n00b alert. I'm not seeing it here. Is/was there any?

No, they banish us to chat when they don't want to deal with criticism. Pretty soon they'll just announce all of their controversial endeavors through blog posts and disable comments entirely.
After Joe Friend wiped out all of the comments, I responded icily, "We're starting to get the picture, Joe..." Implying that we're starting to understand that our dissenting input is not welcome. That comment was also deleted.

We're going to be looking at quite a few things posted here, but we're not going to make many (if any) changes beyond bug fixes until we have established some base data. At that point, we'll try tweaking things. I'm now locking this post for comments, because they've been getting way out of hand. — Tim Post ♦ 7 hours ago
IMO... fair enough.
I don't like this feature either but I do understand they try to make major changes. Would be good to get such feedback sooner, though.

at least Tim didn't lock this chatroom :D

Guess he did the math... better let us let off some steam here than in the main sites.... :)

no, they just want to collect even more of that precious feedback
