To test this at least a little bit I have modified one of those queries with CAST(CreationDate as Date): Edits by a specific user per day
BTW when counting edits, I should keep in mind than in SEDE one edit can make up to three entries, the title, body, tags edits are stored separately in the PostHistory table: Data Explorer query to count number of edits, but using the same criteria as the Users->editors tab.

@Martin yes, that is correct. You have to group on revisionguid. Rows with the same revisionguid are a single edit.
which I do horribly wrong in that query
or not
I don't even understand what I'm querying there

> At times more than one type of history record can be recorded by a single action. All of these will be grouped using the same RevisionGUID.
I have tried whether replacing COUNT(Id) with COUNT(RevisionGUID) would help, but it does not change anything.
So COUNT(DISTINCT RevisionGUID) would probably be a way to go.
This seems to be what I originally wanted to achieve: data.stackexchange.com/mathoverflow/revision/888350/1103304/…

Looks good to me

Basically the OP asks how to count edits in such way that the results are the same as in the editors tab.
Not all edits are counted there - assuming the answer given here is correct: Why are number of edits reported in Profile and Users Tab different?
> includes edits to your own posts, and only counts specific types of edits (excluding title and tag-only edits for example)
Although I thought that tag-only edits count here, but do not count as progress towards editing budges (Copy Editor badge).
I have compared the numbers with what I see on MathOverflow editors tab.
Top editors in a given period - here I counted using RevisionGUID, to avoid counting an edit several times.
The number seem to be higher than on the editors tab.
The query Top editors in a given period (excluding edits on user's own posts) seems to be relatively close - but I am not sure whether the difference is small enough to be explained by the changes since the last update of the data in SEDE.
Are maybe deleted posts counted in editors tab? (They are not present in SEDE.)

BTW I hope that when some user wants to ask something SEDE related in chat, they find this room. (So that it does not end up as a room with only two users.)

The "edit counting" reminded me of this:
in In praise of Math.SE site and its users on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, Nov 15 '15 at 7:15, by Arthur Fischer
I kind of get annoyed when I see users editing only one part of a question, leaving other problems stand. So I was curious to find out who our top "editing completists" are: those who have edited each of the title, tags, and body of a question. The top 5, according to a possibly terrible SEDE query, are:

@Martin you can advertise it a bit in an answer meta.stackexchange.com/a/314274/158100 I guess until someone calls that SPAM or Unwelcome ...

That sounds reasonable. Probably mentioning this somewhere in chat would be ok too - the rules about what is allowed in chat are more lax than posts.
I have mentioned this room in some comments like this:

We just need to attract a crowd ...

BTW the data in SEDE is supposed to be updated every week on Monday according to Nick Craver's answer.
> The data is updated early every Monday morning around 3:00 UTC
I am pretty sure that this week I've seen some data from August 19 in SEDE already today (Sunday).
