I also notice this “pull” you're describing. Comes to mind: In comic layout design, elements we want to draw attention to are supposed to stand out from the rest of the panel content. (Aaron Diaz describes this here, e.g. see this comic. Warning, other posts on that blog may be NSFW.) Our left menu sticks out distinctly the same way, esp. the active navigation item which has a highlight to it and is just a single rectangle poking out of the side of the content like a flag. — doppelgreener 2 hours ago

@doppelgreener oh. I always upload inside a new question page. The site uploader is much better than the chat uploader, and the temp image is never submitted. :)

@ShadowWizard I tried that once, and then discarded the post, and then linked the image, and the image link was a 404... so I don't know what happened there but I just decided uploading to a sandbox was more useful

@doppelgreener weird. Why discard though? You can just leave it there.

I upload, mark the image URL, CTRL+X to cut, CTRL+V to paste in desired place, and that is it. :)

The leftover draft isn't even long enough to be submitted by mistake.

Also, big downside of uploading in chat is that once you uploaded it, it's there forever and even if you delete it right away, any RO or mod can see it.

So if you upload something... not good... by mistake, you're "doomed". ;)

oh BTW, nice new avatar!

@doppelgreener yeah, same as redact on a site. Well, that's mod power, but still... my points earlier were about common cases of "mortal" users. ;)
