This is a room where you can ping me for extended discussions about any of the answers I've written. Any other discussions are also welcome :-) unless they aren't personal.

I'd be glad if you read out the FAQs first.

5:47 PM
@Hexacoordinate-C Welcome to Baker Street!

6:16 PM
@Hippalectryon the IDLE editor asks me the current encoding of the file

utf-8

it says failed to decode

Hm can you paste the exact error ?

sure just a moment

Ah that's weird. I've never used Idle before though.
I use notepad++

6:20 PM
I had to use notepad to edit it
now the last bit of the code looks like this
chatbot.joinRooms({"3229": handleActivity, "1098": handleActivity}) # 1098 : baker-street

chatbot.enableControl(3229)

don't use idle to run it run it through the command line

alright, i'll try

6:55 PM
@Hippalectryon I got yet another error

The first line of main.py is # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- right ?

no it's just as you've typed

When you say you used notepad for the code, you mean notepad.exe ?

yes the simple notepad that comes by default with microsoft, i had sublime text on my old pc
but rn i'm just stuck with notepad,
oh no
i understood what you mean to say, i messed up the encoding right?

It looks like for some reason your file is saved with some weird encoding
yeah

7:00 PM
oops
let me start afresh, and thanks a lot for your support

:-)
- brb, dinner -

take your time and enjoy the meal!

Looking right
Looking left

7:17 PM
Hello!

World!

haha

Reminds me of my Den, though I'm not sure why I started it...
Think to discuss things too, but not only my answers.

I got the inspiration from one of the mod who started "Desk#

@BerryHolmes hmm? Where?

7:19 PM
Let me search, just a moment
And then I stumbled across your den :-)
@ShadowWizard there you go

@BerryHolmes Hehe, you never said "hello" there! ;)

haha true indeed, the place was eerily quite

Well, Den isn't "official" place to get help from me like this room, but I usually won't refuse to give help. :)
@BerryHolmes on Sunday whole MSE is quiet... even Tavern.

Aha :) I see

So, is this your real picture in the avatar?

7:23 PM
thanks I would definitely ask help from you in case :)
no this is my friend

@BerryHolmes sure thing, you can either there or here, I'm stick around. :)

thanks a lot :)

@BerryHolmes oh, she knows she's in your profile? ;)

haha she was a bit angry about this yesterday, but she didn't ask me to put it down either

- back -

7:30 PM
welcome back, here's a new error
No module named 'requests'
I'm learning how to install modules

Oh, yeah, you need to install some python modules. Before that, did you install python 2.7 or 3.x ?

It is 3.6.1
should I've installed 2.7?

Well, I run the code with 2.7, so I don't know if it's compatible with 3.x

coding horror screams
From where do I download the packages tho?

two options
1) use pip from the command line : pip install packageName
I recommend the second option, it's easier, and you can be sure you're picked the right version

7:40 PM
the second option looks better.. yeah
and then what do i do with the .whl file

there should be .exe too

Ctrl+F in the page and then "requests" leads me only to an .whl file
pypi.python.org/pypi/requests/2.14.2 on this page there's a .tar file tho

ah damn :( we'll have to use pip

oh :o

hm
do pip install requests

7:47 PM
okie doing

How's it going ?

Finished processing dependencies for requests yaaaay
now i think i've to repeat the procedure for simplecrypt

oh, the package is named simple-crypt for pip

ah alright, downloaded it
i was confused for a moment
simplecrypto or simple-crypt haha thanks :)
same thing for Crypto

8:06 PM
:-)

@Hippalectryon i installed crypto but still it says no module named "Crypto"

try
pip uninstall pycrypto
easy_install pycrypto

umm well, how do i do it using pip? I've been downloading the .tar files and then extracting them and installing them using python..
pip is not recognized as an internal/external command

i've entered python -m pip install -U pip setuptools into cmd as per the documentation

8:16 PM
Run that script, then try pip and see if the command works

no :( still getting the same error

Did the script throw any kind of error ? (the get_pip)

just a moment
i'll try it once more
wheel was not installed. done
no still the same error am I doing something wrong

close the command line and open a new one, same error ?

perhaps something about version 3.x?

8:25 PM
Oh maybe it's not in your environment variables
You have windows 10 ?

no it's windows 8

Not a problem, same issue

let me do it through the tar method

In the start menu search for "environment variable"
You should have a result like "edit environment variables", run it

runned

8:31 PM
When you've added the env variables, don't forget to close the command line and run a new one to refresh the changes

oh i forgot that
yyyyyaaaaaaaayyyyyy
it's working!!!

:DDDD

thank u soooo muchhh
:( mom's telling me to turn off the computer but this is so interesting

I'll be here tomorrow evening too :-)

haha can we continue this tomorrow?
thanks a lot for your help!

8:37 PM
np :D
