I admit I didn't spend very long looking to see if it was possible, I just figured it wouldn't be possible to get it from the comment-header via javascript
@TimStone, the first iteration actually worked round that by just checking to see if the date of the comment was more recent than the last time i checked, but the major flaw in that plan was that the 'last time I checked' is stocked in local Storage, so it re-prompted you to update on every site, whether you had already updated or not

in markdown proper you can just use <s>, because html is allowed. in comments, not so much. if at all, I'd probably vote for something like --wrong-- or similar

@Benjol jQuery UI has some convenience positioning method, but I forget to what extent it'd do that for you. Plus, it'd be fairly overkill for just that purpose anyway. You're better off CSS-ing it up yourself I suppose.
