There is an off-topic reason (can no longer be reproduced) for closing such questions. It's useful for things like bug reports about features that don't exist anymore. But otherwise, questions are usually just left in place.

@FamousBlueRaincoat A certain Kasra should go fix that...

user259867
Arguably, this is sometimes a problem when one is looking for a policy on something (like flag handling etc) and finds that most of the posts have obsolete information.

user259867
@hichris123 Too late, app long gone from my phone.

I still have it, but only use it to confirm bug reports.

@nicael ah, good

12:03 AM
I use the iOS app all the time

why?

I really don't think the mobile apps are good enough to replace the desktop site on a 7" tablet yet.

Sue
@FamousBlueRaincoat That's what bothers me. I have questions but am not sure what is or isn't still in place, and I end up finding lots of obsolete questions.

@Frank 'cause it works well enough for what I do.
In most cases

I always prefer the Android app, except for moderation stuff (voting to reopen/delete which STILL hasn't been implemented, viewing deleted posts, review, ♦ tools, etc.) that the app is incapable of doing.

Sue
12:06 AM
@Frank These make sense, but my request would be to make them more obvious. I have a bunch of examples-will have to find some.
@Doorknob One major drawback on the Android (iOS too I think) is that when you're asking a question, possible dupes and suggestions don't come up.

Yeah, but a thorough search is usually enough.

I've had questions answered by SO's duplicate-suggested thing that I couldn't find in search

Sue
Makes me wonder if a lot of new users are submitting dupes by accident.
@Undo Android or iOS?

@Roombatron5000 yeah I know. I'd like to have about three times as many reviews in that queue
@Sue iOS, but the dupe suggester thing is only in web

12:12 AM
@Sue Yeah, they are

Why is everyone doing this?

IDK

nice pic @fam

Ha

Sue
@Undo How come I all of a sudden can't find how to ask a question in the iOS?
@Frank Figured
:)
I feel bad because it's not their fault.

12:19 AM
They should try to research more before asking ... but that's true with all the sites.

they didn't feel bad for the kids making their phones , so don't feel bad

Sue
@Frank Agreed, but research is very difficult on the mobile apps.

but yea, should be improved

DevDoodle won't have a mobile app! Horray!

@Sue I still don't get it why people don't keep at least one functioning desktop at home though...

12:27 AM
what site do adobe illustrator q's belong on? graphicdesign.SE?

Sue
@Frank I know, but it's not always feasible.
App-oriented people, usually younger I suppose, could care less!
I myself prefer browsers-I just feel like if you're going to offer an app, it should have the same capabilities. But that's rude and judgmental of me!

thanks, someones sent a ton of those questions to close queue

@bjb568 Probably because a teacher noticed your lack of comprehension of the English language and thus decided to count you absent.

But I was there, in the lunch room, doing the parcc test during 2nd-reverse/6th bell where study hall would be! And I don't even show up ever to study hall!
It's interesting to play around with grades… 15 points of stimulus can be worth 200 points of freebies.

Oh, of course you just had to -_-
Haha, the timing of that though...

done

Doesn't the PHP room have a cv-plz onebox userscript? I should get that.

If that's a thing, we could in theory make it cast close votes through the API
Think: Click thing, instant popup, with giant close button

3:09 AM
Huh.

I was thinking a while back of writing a similar script. But you can VTC from within chat, so it's just a single click (agree / disagree / VTC for a different reason).

The main problem would be a user-friendly way of getting an access token
although I guess we're developers, so...

Chrome GreaseMonkey has some kind of cross-site XHR thingy. So I could just manually send GET/POST requests.

@Doorknob but... but we have a clean write API
I never did get that XHR thingy to work

user259867
Um, that makes me happier about not installing GreaseMonkey.

3:12 AM
Yeah, but that would involve getting an access token and icky stuff like that, which is much harder than just hacking together gm_xmlHttpRequest or whatever it's called. :P

user259867
Never know what those all-purpose things are up to.

@Doorknob or we could just have a thing on erwaysoftware.com that gets you an access token, which you then feed the script on chat and everything works fine
or we could probably use localstorage for it
and skip the copy-pasting step

I've never actually used the API access token system thingy, so I actually have no idea how complicated it is.

@Doorknob It's insanely complicated until you figure it out

@Undo Surely you mean keyboardfire.com? :) but yeah, sounds good

3:14 AM
@Doorknob You have a VPS, right?

@Undo Problem is that's domain-specific, so you'd have to manually copy stuff from (erwaysoftware/keyboardfire).com to chat.meta.SE and chat.SO and chat.SE.

@Doorknob Even extension-level storage?

@Undo No, shared hosting.

@Doorknob ah. Can you put PHP and such on it?

@Undo That could work.

3:15 AM
Or we could always just do it client-side, that works too

@Undo Yeah, of course.

I'm confused. All of our messages are weaving together and I can't follow each separate conversation. :P

You aren't spending enough time on Chat then
Stay after class for a week

Oh, I'm reading the authentication page and I've actually done OAuth before. I remember now.

Undo's Useless Summary of Server-Side Access Token Getting: (1) Redirect user to api.stackexchange.com/docs/authentication, with the custom params, (2) Get special string back in params (3) Send special string to SE, get access token back.

@Undo where is the "???" in that?!

(4) ??? (5) PROFIT!

oh

Completely off-topic: Whose idea was this design? Because it's horrible.

@bjb568 Does it mean something that there's no icon for 'graduation progress'?

@Doorknob you know what it remembers me? this:

3:41 AM
@Undo So is this idea for the cv userscript actually going to become a thing? And if so, is it possible that you could do the server-side stuff (because I'm essentially clueless about that) and that I'd do the client-side stuff (because judging from your SO profile, you're essentially clueless about JS :P)?

@Doorknob I was just brainstorming, but if you want to go ahead with it I can totally do the server side thing.

@Undo Yeah, just tossing around a few idle thoughts as well. But it does sound pretty useful. Anyway, I'm going to have to go to sleep soon, but if you do want to work on it with me I'm completely free tomorrow afternoon (ah, glorious standardized testing day tomorrow, meaning zero homework :D).

Q: Can functional reactive programming (FRP) be expressed using monads?

Alexis KingI've been reading up on Functional Reactive Programming, and though I have not used monads extensively in any language, I can't help but see them everywhere in the FRP design.
