[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: PHP/MYSQL SHOW USERNAME by Shizzzzzzzz on pt.stackoverflow.com

@TGMCians: I used to be the #1 active participant on MSO, but not any longer. The daily dose of posts about declined naa flags bore me. The same names discuss the same things over n over again. My opinion remains unchanged by those chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/89?m=2679450#2679450
now I like MSE :)

I just noticed that the left most tab on the top questions page of all the sites says "active", except on SO, where it says "interesting". Why is that? (Just out of curiosity)

Jan Dvorak should get a special yearling hat for wearing last year's winterbash hat for a year

yay!

If Jan Dvorak changes his hat this year, I won't be able to recognize his avatar. The winterbash owl hat has become synonymous with him.

@JasonC You don't get out much, SE-wise? Stack Overflow Homepage Changes

@Rafflesiaarnoldii Thanks! Not in 2010 I didn't.

@JasonC Ha, I have seen that one! It's a good one =)

How many posts have you read on SE @Rafflesiaarnoldii? You are like an encylopedia of all SE posts.

user259867
AFAIK, other sites did not ask for this tab to be added, except for Math, and it was declined there.

user259867
More than I should, obviously.

6:08 PM
Yes, obviously :)

> [2010] Quite the sea of red unanswered questions, which seems to meet our goal of giving questions which haven’t yet gotten a good answer, more time on the homepage to get one.

user259867
> [2014] Our current homepage algorithm was actively highlighting unanswered questions. We did this on purpose, but that was a long time ago. The effect of that system is that unanswerable questions stay on the homepage, because the average and good ones get answered almost immediately. So it makes Stack Overflow look like a site full of bad, unanswered questions.

No wonder, your profile page is full of Shog quotes and an Anna Lear quote. Nice collection of quotes.

@jadarnel27 we need your support: feedback.unity3d.com/suggestions/…

To add to what you are saying about this situation being a serious emergency studies have been done on private pilots in IMC. A pilot with no IFR training in IMC conditions survives less than 3 minutes on average. — usernumber 2 days ago

no yellow :(

^ :O That's terrifying. I wonder where the source for that study is.

> Yellow. RGBA is (1, 0.92, 0.016, 1), but the color is nice to look at!
2

Lol.

6:21 PM
Seriously, who wrote that documentation? :/

@Bart Amazing. I think I will sign up just to vote on that.

6:34 PM
I just got a weird chat hiccup, was that just me?

user259867
7:13 PM
@nicael The query mentions meta, so I tried running it on meta.SO, too.

user259867
> Warning: Null value is eliminated by an aggregate or other SET operation.
(1 row(s) affected)

user259867
Any idea why?

@nicael That query doesn't take into account questions answers that Jon has downvoted on. (-1 for each that has not been deleted)

@LynnCrumbling WHEN VoteTypeId = 3 THEN -2 -- Downvote.
aren't question downvotes free?

user259867
That's the downvotes he received, not gave.

7:16 PM
ohh nvm,,...

@Vogel612'sShadow That's answers of his that have been downvoted.

yea I just realized..
well that's since voting is confidential ;)

@Vogel612'sShadow and yeah, I revised that from q's to a's -- sorry; my fault.
@Vogel612'sShadow Right, I doubt you'd be able to see that result from SEDE.

... It's really late as ... here, better get going..
::poof::

waves
@nicael The query also doesn't take into account bounties that the user paid out...
It's reporting me as 5302; that's my current rep plus every bounty I've offered.

7:24 PM
@Raffl @Lyn maybe something wrong, but its not mine and I understand nothing in sql :D there are another versions also...

@LynnCrumbling You could subtract downvotes directly to get a lower bound, he's cast 2907 downvotes total on questions and answers, so at most he's lost 2907 rep there (if all were cast on non-deleted answers).

@JasonC Yep, that works. Is there a way to query bounties?

@LynnCrumbling Not that I know of but similar idea; he's offered 100 bounty points total, ever.

Yeah, so worse case, the uncapped is ~3k off.
Which is... what... 4 magnitudes lower than total uncapped.

Given a user's (possibly not unique) display name and a site, what's the quickest path to get to that user's profile on that site?

user259867
7:37 PM
Search site/users for that name.

[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: PHP/MYSQL SHOW USERNAME by Shizzzzzzzz on pt.stackoverflow.com

@JasonC Happens to me sometimes.

@Rafflesiaarnoldii Ah, thanks. I kept skipping past the "Users" button, duh.
I need to hunt down these other Jason C's. Unacceptable.

user259867
Or you could rename yourself as The Real Jason C.

8:03 PM
Would the Real Jason C. please stand up?

> Something unexpected went wrong while running your query. Don't worry, blame is already being assigned.
:(
Also, for user names shared by 50 or more users, Quentin's have the highest average rep at ~6400, and a25bedc5-3d09-41b8-82fb-ea6c353d75ae (?) has the lowest at 4.
Which begs the question, why are there 125 users with the display name a25bedc5-3d09-41b8-82fb-ea6c353d75ae...? o.O
4

Good question. Google is unhelpful. Almost all of the results point back to SE user profiles. Those that aren't are user profile on various technology forums.

Q: Linking / creating account on other sites adds 2 "recent names" to your profile?

animusonI was browsing around some of the other Stack Exchange sites I use and noticed that most of the ones I recently joined have two names listed under the recent names on my profile: a25bedc5-3d09-41b8-82fb-ea6c353d75ae Anonymous Why would these be added? It's currently showing these two addition...

8:21 PM
> // some random string so obnoxious people will complain about it

user259867
"so obnoxious, people will complain about it" vs "so, obnoxious people will complain about it"

that is a good point, the comma placement really changes the meaning

@Andy Just found that as well while I was typing a question about it on meta. That's kinda funny.
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Or "so, obnoxious people, will, complain about it"
Commanding all obnoxious people and Will to complain about it.

so, obnoxious, people, will, complain, about, it,

// Here is the dummy user name as well as a list of 7 words I like. ^

8:42 PM
Everyone panic!

Well done.

I'm sitting here on my couch staring at that and cracking up, lol.

Sam
LOL

... I open this tab and absolutely nothing productive seems to have happened since I last opened it. ;)
At least from the past 5 messages.

Q: Error page image is dull

fredleyI see the waffles etc. didn't survive the migration. The current image is the default for beta sites. Is there a better image in the works to replace the somewhat bland '404' and 'oops'?

user259867
Why we don't have a comments:n search parameter? I wanted to search for questions with no answers OR comments...

9:28 PM
@JasonC Best idea to come out of the Tavern in insert time period, here.

@hichris123 ^ And you said nothing productive happened. Ha!

9:59 PM
@Rafflesiaarnoldii I guess you could do a sede query for it, not as convenient though

@TimStone you around?

Aye

Is there a way to make the little "ms" timer thing on sede go away? On narrower screens it gets in the way of the query editor.

The miniprofiler? No, but I've considered making a change to how it profiles that operation.

A userscript should be able to do the trick

10:07 PM
I never really considered it overlapping the editor though, so I'll make a note of that

Oh. Oh wait! I just learned how to write user scripts.
@JanDvorak Hell yeah! I feel so empowered!

@JasonC next goal: make MSO look decent

@JanDvorak Lol aww; I like the new one! But that comment action script has been working wonders.
Which reminds me, I should go familiarize myself with forEach.

I see how it is, @Pops summoning me and then leaving me hanging. For shame!

@TimStone I pinged you elsewhere; did you not get it?

10:13 PM
Hmm seems not?

I mean, obviously not, because you posted that other message about you being left hanging.
That was a stupid question.
I, uh, just wanted to prove that there was such a thing.

lol

Nothing in your notifications inbox?

Nope

@Pops it takes at least 15 mins for a unread message in chat reach the global inbox

10:15 PM
I assume he superpinged me, in which case it'd come right away I think

This is going well.

But I must not have access to see the message or something?

Yep.

@JanDvorak for-of vs forEach... is it just a style preference? It looks like for-of was introduced later, is it a compatibility choice maybe?

I'll just e-mail you.

10:15 PM
Okay!

@JasonC I've never used for-of
forEach is ES5, for-of is ES6

10:32 PM
learns that HTMLCollections don't have forEach :(
It was so slick looking too.

[].forEach.call(coll, func)

Yeah, I saw that, but at that point I kind of like the way a plain loop looks.
There would have been something semantically nice looking about e.g. document.querySelectorAll('.comment-actions').forEach(modifyCommentAction);

Interesting: activity tab of user network profile shows comments on deleted posts. Caching?

user259867

@Rafflesiaarnoldii Lemme guess: Shog's profile?

user259867
Too easy.

Yup. Especially the y'all gives it away.

10:58 PM
The video link isn't clickable in the image, so...

user259867

@hichris123 What site was he referring to?
Oh. ServerFault.

Lol, jeez. I wonder what that original conversation was.
Actually, no, I don't.

user259867
Oh, I see: these are moderator nominations, this is why there is no link.

user259867
> A vote for me is a vote to put my cruelty and viciousness to work for the site, against the horde of stupidity that threatens it.

11:03 PM
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Oh, it's that guy...

Lol

> Wow, you're all crazy. I for one do not endorse Hopelessnoob as a mod for reasons that @Shog9 has mentioned. I put this nomination in the same bucket as Evan Carrols'.

I know nothing of the people at SF but just judging by the tone of the comments in that conversation alone it looks like shog might have got that one right, at least for the people in that convo. Those comments are crazy defensive...

Lol
It's like that guy watched a bad movie about a politician or something and decided to try it out.
He needs to finish all his posts with "KILL WHITEY!"

11:16 PM
I can't zoom in on the chat on my iPhone, can I?

> I have contributed to most (or, at least some) of the corporately owned StackExchange sites
I am so glad he hasn't found some sites

I actually really like his higher voted answers on SF.

In the moderators tab when looking at users, how does the system sort them into the order they are listed?

user259867
Alphabetically by display name.

It's alphabetical.
Displayed in rows, reading order. Read across, not down.

11:29 PM
Thanks - If I become a mod, I should change my name to AAAAHHHG!
I'll be at the top.

We've got 0x7fffffff on SO.
Just change your name to !

How would it sort names with no letters in them?

What do you mean? No letters?

user259867
By ASCII codes or some such thing (I don't know how it handles Unicode).

user259867
There is a network-wide alphabetical list of mods, 0x7fffffff leads it too.

11:35 PM
I have decided the most evil number is 83.

user259867
That's a B, not so evil.

^ wierd
@Rafflesiaarnoldii A B?

user259867
Yes. On a typical grading scale, 80-82 is B-, 83-87 is B. I mean college, don't know about K-12.

Oh.
Well, 83 is a number I can only get by failing my good classes. I always tend to not get 83 on doing good in my bad classes.

@bjb568 s/wierd/weird

11:39 PM
weieieieieieierd

B is for bacon

user259867
^ bjb getting less than 83 in English

probably.

Just remember: i before e except after c, in weird, and in a random set of words.

@Rafflesiaarnoldii I got an 83 average actually last quarter.
… not this quarter
Last quarter we didn't really do much of anything.

11:43 PM
Huh

ceird wierd
birdz

Exactly
wierd to the bierd

@bjb568 Let me guess: you misspelled through too much? (thru?)

@hichris123 Actually, so far there hasn't been a complaint.

Why was 192.168.l.l in my browser history...

11:45 PM
@bjb568 I complained.
2
@JasonC You mistyped 192.168.1.1?

1o1

@hichris123 Not my style of typo
Lol, it's very mysterious

Hm… an email bounced thru to my inbox (using dropbox mailbox) about koding hackathon

user259867
Is anyone bothered by the fact that the username links on SO so clearly show whose profile you visited?

Me.

user259867
11:51 PM
This is not the behavior of other sites I frequent: the color difference there is hardly noticeable.

user259867
The current mSO design takes it to the next level.

@bjb568 It looks pretty cool. I applied a little while ago.

@Rafflesiaarnoldii And DD makes no distinction at all.

user259867
Way to go, DD!

Yay! I do CSSes!

user259867

I hate when I read something like '... tension among the BASE jumpers nearly led to wingsuit combat ...', and I get excited because 'wingsuit combat' is underlined, only to find that it's just separate links to the 'wingsuit' and 'combat' articles.

Not… going… to… click… on… last… link…
Koding sign-in is stupid. I have have to disable popup blocking for it to do its githubbing.
So for Markdown-HTML, I have support for lists with any kind of word character. Like a., B., III., 4), - AA… The problem is Anyway. (ordered list)is also matched… What should I allow?
