anyone looking for free flag weight might want to take a look at stackoverflow.com/questions/8513435/…

anything that makes those answers/accounts vanish faster would be good

@EvanCarroll that's comprehensively closed

Optimizing coming along nicely.
(Search optimization. I realized that most of my problems are probably related to how I'm using existing frameworks, since I'm not implementing any search algorithms.

@Moshe ummmm u realize that it autocompletes right?

@aman Not on iOS.

I'm sad the movies chat room cleared out after private beta.

I'm sad that people keep suggesting SO to askers of atrociously written programming questions posted to MSO.

2:39 PM
Well, @TinyMoo shows over, clear out. Let em sweep up all the popcorn so the next group of askers can enjoy the show.

Q: Treat Chinese character's length doubled

AntiGameZWhen answering questions I encountered a notify that I should input more than 30 characters. Some questions can be answered use chinese mixture shortly like this post. Should we treat a Chinese character as two latin characters? When I develop website in China, we deal with the problem like that.

I think this is a good question, especially if we're going to get questions that are completely in Chinese

2:43 PM
@YiJiangsProble_ booo cant see that

The summery given in the onebox is the entire question

Why do bad questions on this site always seem to get off topic votes. It worries me.

Q: what do you peoples things about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1

ainsliejonesThe latest 2011 part of twilight move is very nice. i would like to know the view on latest part .

Maybe people consider Twilight to be "dreck," not a "movie." (To be fair, that's just based on its reputation; I have no personal experience with it.)

Heh.
I'm just glad I don't have to watch them.

2:58 PM
I have a money saving idea.

@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Awful. Just awful.

@jadarnel27 look at prev Q's
....

Those stupid timeshare companies need to hack a celebrity's twitter account and accidentally tweet their sales number as that person's phone number.

BAM instant people calling and because they're the type of people who would call an accidentally tweeted phone number, they're probably also the type of people who would buy a timeshare.
No offense to anyone who owns a timeshare. They suckered me in once.

3:03 PM
oy....

@TinymooTim Maybe if the celebrity in question was Warren Buffett.

lol

@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Oddly enough, the previous questions are not ridiculously off-topic (like the one you linked).
(I can't see deleted questions, though)

I do like the free money and services they give you to watch their presentations; but you have to realize they get that money from the people who actually buy things from them.

Excuse me? It's a free country, I don't have to realize anything. The Earth is flat, Santa is real and timeshares are awesome.

3:15 PM
And the first thing at Christmas, that Santa gave to me ... a f*** ton of free flag weight

Excuse me? I'm from Canada
I'll have none of this cross-border "It's a free country." nonsense.

I thought about that, but I was under the impression that Canada was also free. Tell us more (if you can).

We have an Orwellian "Charter of Rights and Freedoms".
It has weazel words in it which allow the government to ignore it when convenient.
And a clause which allows them to pass laws which contravene parts of it so long as the law acknowledges that it's doing that.
So, sure we're free now but in 5 minutes, who knows?
Q.E.D.

What makes New Brunswick special enough to have custom sections of the Language Rights part of the charter?

I'm... Not... Sure...
They probably just whined enough for them.

3:38 PM

A: Make a number a percentage

NealA percentage is just: (number_one / number_two) * 100 No need for anything fancy: var number1 = 4.954848; var number2 = 5.9797; alert(Math.floor((number1 / number2) * 100)); //w00t!

Just need another 3 downvotes.

@AdamDavis hehe i had added a bounty to that

I noticed!

I forgot to choose an answer

Thanks. I added another bounty.

Woot!

And now @amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA is going to post on meta about the formatting when a negative score answer reaches 3 digits. Right?

It's a feature request now. Wonder how long until it receives [status-declined]?

@AdamDavis w00t to a :-)
@AdamDavis lol well it can't be closed :-P (except by a mod :-( )

4:43 PM
It doesn't matter much, though, it doesn't show up on the front page no matter how many times its bumped.
Doesn't show up in the featured questions list either, even with a 500 point bounty.

@AdamDavis odd. thats a meta issue, no?

No, anything downvoted to -4 or worse (last time I checked) does not make it to the front page.
or doesn't reappear on it anyway. I think this is true for all sites now. I didn't realize it also affected the bounty questions, but it makes sense that it would.

@AdamDavis For meta sites that was relaxed to... -8?

0
Q: Why it is not in the featured tab?

amanaP lanaC A nalP A naM AI know this question has A LOT of downvotes, but it is a bountied question and it deserves it's right in the limelight (aka the featured tab) The question at hand: Don't close questions where the user has requested that it not be closed

@PopularDemand source?

They have even removed it from the list of all questions, sorted by votes: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions?page=613&sort=votes

4:49 PM
@AdamDavis add that to my OP...
wth lol thats no fair :-P

So while I'd like to say I've got the most downvoted question on meta, I can't actually check that out without doing a data explorer query.

@AdamDavis thats silly

Not that it matters. It's a fun friday question, and we can't be having too much fun around here...

A: Meta sites' front pages should not hide questions with very low scores

Jeff AtwoodThe threshold is higher on meta, I think it's -8 or so compared to -4 on the parent site. Are you recommending that as the standard for all metas? I think I could support that. edit: setting this to a global value of -8 for all metas.

4:54 PM
@AdamDavis u see jonsca's comment on the OP? I dont see it..

Two down. One to go. Then one more next week.

There are two ways to find the featured list: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/116150/…
0
Q: Why are there two featured lists?

Adam DavisThere are two featured lists with the same URL, but different results: Go to http://meta.stackoverflow.com Click on "Questions" Click on "featured" You'll see one list with the URL http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions?sort=featured Go to http://meta.stackoverflow.com Click on "featured" ...

@adam thanks for the vote of confidence last night. I actually fell asleep. Haha. I woke up early and crammed.
Was easier than expected. Much easier.

@AdamDavis No-repro here.
I see it sitting at the bottom of page 613, just waiting to lure in passersby who want to gawk at the lowest-scoring MSO question ever.

5:07 PM
That's in IE8. Looks fine in FF8

^Same in IE9.

That was reported during the first 2011 SO mod election, but was completed by not displaying large negative numbers rather than by "actually" fixing anything.

Here's how it'll look if we can get it to 4 digits (thanks to the framework that is really great and does all things.)

Well, I'm glad to have been the impetus to research these very important issues (large negative number layout and featured question lists) ;P
@Moshe Great! Good luck on your last one.

5:22 PM
Thanks.

Hmm, is it possible that an html file I was developing locally and seeing how it looked in chrome looks quite different when uploaded?

@Moshe exams? Good luck!

Shouldn't it be exactly the same?
Why would chrome process the files differently or am I screwing it up elsewhere?

@Trufa Perhaps something different happens when the page is requested through IIS?

Does each browser have a default stylesheet that gets applied?

5:31 PM
@jadarnel27 I've tried re-uploading, could this happen every time?
@AdamDavis no, i don't think so
Ohhhh
nevermind!
hehe it was an image that for some reason had not been uploaded completely

@Trufa What I mean is, when you view the file locally through your browser, it's just rendering a local html file. When you upload to a server and go to the web page, the browser requests that file from the web server. I may be receiving something different / extra?
lol

I didn't even know that was possible
it was a little bit shorter and ruining my css

Disregard my craziness, then =) Glad it was something simple.

@jadarnel27 hehehe thank goodness it had nothing to do with that!
Thanks anyways!! :)

@ShawnChin Yup, last one for the day in 20 min. Thanks.

6:34 PM
@TinyTim I tried cleaning up posts like that before, but it didn't go over well...

Is there a meta post about the per-site metas showing non-existent rep changes?
Because I want to upvote it.

@AdamDavis I've always wondered...what's the point of that question / feature request?
I assume it's tongue-in-cheek?

@Chris Can megaman take the powers of a laptop? Does he have to destroy it before he can?

@Kalamane Oooh, good question. I never thought about that before...
I don't think he can take the power of household electronics
He'd probably have to destroy PC Man or something
Or maybe if the computer was manufactured by Dr. Wily?

6:46 PM
So we have a few rules, right?
His opponents have to be robotic for him to take their powers.
They don't have to have Man at the end of their name, but most do.

@Kalamane I always assumed so
@Kalamane That depends on which series you're talking about

True. If it's the American TV show he only has to touch them.

That was lame

Better than nothing.
So, would you count a macbook as a robot?
What constitutes a robot?

@Kalamane Yeah, but I remember being so disappointed when I watched that show for the first time

6:49 PM
@Chris It was pretty bad...

Just like the weekday-morning Sonic cartoons
Although I do remember enjoying the Saturday-morning Sonic cartoon...

The sonic cartoons were pretty good. The art wasn't so great, but if you sat down with a hot Chili-Dog right as it got going, it was wonderful.
What was with the chili-dogs anyway?

Q: SE 2.0 Meta doesn't award rep, but it refers to "rep"

Dennis WilliamsonI originally posted this on MSF, but it got no response, so at the suggestion made in a comment there, I'm reposting it here. This should be called "up-votes", or something like that, showing a count ("1" in this case) instead of a value. I'm not sure what should be done with down-votes....

Yeah, that's not quite the issue, so I posted a new question.
0
Q: Recent Activity (Rep) Showing on Per-Site Meta

Tiny mooTimThis question would appear to be status-complete now that the rep tab is gone from SE2.0 metas and the /reputation URL returns nothing of interest: SE 2.0 Meta doesn't award rep, but it refers to "rep" But I see rep changes in the user dropdown: Like most neurotic posters on me...

Terrible title. I should be fired.

I just Googled for "stackoverflow.in" because of this answer. I just got this e-mail: "[name], We have an opening at [company] for a Software Engineer based out of [location]. If you are unfamiliar with [company again], the projects we currently are involved in are distribution centers and automated material handling systems for customers like Target, Walmart, Publix etc. After reviewing your profile, I thought you may fit into this position nicely"... at my current job's e-mail. Some screener at that company failed.

@PopularDemand a few months ago, I got a call from a headhunter on my work phone.

I consider that less bad; there's no obvious indication from a phone number that it's a corporate number.
I have gotten calls from headhunters on my cell, while at work, which I said "no thanks" to just a little louder than I really needed to.

@aman sleep?

@Moshe yes?
@Moshe did u see my framework? (can't remember if i showed it to you)

Q: Why does the Transcript and the actual chat room have different Timestamps?

amanaP lanaC A nalP A naM ASee the transcript here: And the actual timestamps here: Why do they differ? For one thing the transcript version is in 12 Hour and and the chatroom is in 24 Hour mode. And the other is that the transcript is 5 hours ahead of the chatroom. How is that possible?

@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Not on the this little sleep. But I can talk like Representative Matt.

@JeremyBanks Did he provide any rational explanation for why it wouldn't accomplish anything to consult experts? o_O
(Note that I do not think there is any such rational explanation)

Anonymous
@jadarnel27 As far as I can tell, his only argument is that it would be possible to produce experts arguing both sides of the issue, as though that is somehow unique to this issue.

9:03 PM
I think by "accomplish anything" he probably meant "expedite the speed at which they ram through the legislation without thinking about it."

Anonymous
@TinymooTim That too. He's convinced that it needs to be passed as fast as possible, though he's failed to provide a real justification for this when asked by others.

Maaaan that is why I have trouble listening to politcal arguments like that.

Why do they keep calling people each other "the gentleman from __"?

@Fezziwig I know. At first I thought there was no way that could really be a legitimate Twitter account, but it's linked from his government profile. Unbelievable.

The gentleman from Utah? The gentleman from Ohio. The gentleman from California.
How the F does this have to do with homeland security?
