@Ninefingers, I had closed the chat window. I just noticed your message about Marc's logic on casting in C#. The term 'erased' is used to describe information that was known at compile-time, which is not known at runtime. Generally speaking all the syntax is erased, because you can't generally CLI is not bijective (invertible, and one-to-one) with C#.
@Ninefingers, what Marc and Jon are doing is conflating the implementation of a cast with the semantic of the cast. The cast is a higher-level semantic (it is actually higher than syntax, it is denotational semantics) that says at the syntax level of semantics that we want to cast the type. Now how that gets done at runtime is entirely different concept. In some languages it might always be a NOOP. For example, in Haskell all typing information is erased at compile-time.

Hey guys, uhhhh I have a bit of an issue.

I asked a question that got roughly 10 downvotes, and now I'm banned from asking any questions at all. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me... since up/down votes are for agreeing/disagreeing.... and not necessarily a question of poor quality.

My question was of good quality actually and a user even commented saying it's not the quality, but just that people don't agree.
Yes.
Seems that the system just automatically did it because of the downvotes I got. I think that's an incredibly bad system... especially in this particular site due to the unique nature/meaning of the voting system.

I agree, but there's nothing I can do
They've been slowly trying to turn MSO into "just another SE site", which is fail of course

5:08 AM
Awesome, any idea how I can get anyone to do anything? Because it says the ban in permanent and automated, and I cant post any questions to get help
Yeah I really cannot understand how someone could overlook or blatantly ignore the issue here with this automated system treating this like any other site
that's incredible

@NineShogsShogging ok? so?

Anyone know if it's "bad style" to return from the middle of a c*++function?

Q: Where did the notion of "one return only" come from?

FredOverflowI often talk to Java programmers who say "Don't put multiple return statements in the same method." When I ask them to tell me the reasons why, all I get is "The coding standard says so." or "It's confusing." When they show me solutions with a single return statement, the code looks uglier to me...

I think it's AWESOME style.

Ugh... returns are awesome, use them generously.

@NineShogsShogging hmmmm i dont like that notion (aka i dont follow it)

Because you can confuse people like this.
foreach(needle in haystack) { if needle == testvalue return needle; } return null;

@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Looking for a specific description of how jsfiddle integration would work, and would be beneficial. Hand-wavy "gee, sure would be nice if there were a button that did something funky" isn't really actionable.

6:49 PM
And then they're all like "OMG that function only ever returns null, what's the point of it?"

crystal clear.. I could care less what anyone else says, if it works.

@mootinator myth

@NineShogsShogging I know.

@NineShogsShogging oy...

Loops are confusing, because if you don't read the code you might not realize it's looping.
Conditionals are confusing, because if you don't read the condition, you might not realize there'll be a branch.
Functions are confusing, 'cause, where the hell are they called from man?!
