@TotZam Ah I see your comment. Yeah... I can see "bug". Depends on how strictly you interpret that OP.
No matter what, it's stupid.

Why is the journey from 9995 to 10000 rep so much more difficult than 0 to 9995?
Also it feels like every user decided to conspire against me by just... not asking any more questions.

@JasonC it just feels longer
till you stop looking
I'm at 9.5k ;p

9997, I found an answer to accept, lol.

Sweet an old question I had with an answer I forgot to accept.
YES!
MWAHAHAHAHA
NOW I CAN SEE ALL THE SPAM!

12:58 AM
hm, I need to get 10k on meta.
3,000 to go.

status-completed

@JasonC good job! Here is your reward.

Lol...
It's everything I've ever dreamed of.
@Shog9 Also your answer made my sad and depressing day even more sad and depressing.

then my work here is done

My reason for wanting 10k is even funnier, and obsolete ;p

Brutal
@JourneymanGeek Now you have to tell us why.

@JasonC typically when there's a user complaint... I miss it cause of time zones, and/or it gets deleted
I actually forgot what meta.stackexchange.com/questions/245822/… was about
(and I've not been active on the tavern long)

@JourneymanGeek ooh now I really want 10k :P

And yeah, on hindsight, the timing of that suspension/bounty was a little evil ;p

In general, I'm pretty sure the primary motivation for getting 10k is related to why we love watching Russian dash cam videos of car accidents on YouTube.

1:08 AM
eh. depends.
I kinda didn't notice on SU

@JourneymanGeek Oh man.

and most of the time, things are deleted for a reason

Worst mod ever.

@JasonC oh, I can read it cause I answered it

Oh right, lol.

@JasonC In his case I'm the mod the community needed wanted, not the mod he needed ;p

Speaking of things exploding

@ɥʇǝS short version - user had socks obvious enough a normal user noticed. Suspended him a week. He had a bounty that expired in 6 days.

I'm going to go make dinner then binge watch Air Crash Investigations until I pass out.
Peace

1:11 AM
@JourneymanGeek heh, tough luck.

Pretty much

user202362
@JasonC you do know that if you were to walk 20km that last 1km is the longest km you will walk on that day right?

user202362
the rest 19 is irrelevant

@Telkitty heh. Or the 1km after that cause you're in the ass end of nowhere and you need to get a ride.

@JourneymanGeek pretty cool train line if it just ends in the middle of a forest.

@bjb568 naw, it goes across a small strait into malaysia
they closed down most of the railway line and its in theory a very long, narrow public park

Sounds fun.

most of its closed off cause they're sticking a new water mains under it
as a sneaky way of keeping it undevelopable

@JourneymanGeek You want to see the ranks without SO included?

yup
I figure I can tack something on to line 13 but.... I have no idea what that would be ;p
(and I'm pretty sure that's skewed by the sheer volume Jon Skeet SO has)

That excludes all the non-english SO's, too.

hm.
40k to get anywhere there for me, alas ;p
actually, somewhat less

4:41 AM
Way less
You're only 109 points short of rank #100

and that was last monday so you might've passed rand by now

That's a good day or two on any site.

@Stijn nope, there is a button on the portal page, top right "Send us feedback"
I sent them a frowning emoji face, a message "please add back the status column so that I won't need to manually check every VM detail page" and a picture of a sad Rarity. Somehow, they listened.

@ShadowWizard Wow, then what did you do when someone asked you something and you didn't know, especially in the middle of an exam?
Without Google, I can't imagine life would've flourished

People used to read these archaic things called books, and have this sixth sense called memory.

@M.A.R. I... umm..... read.... shiver.... books... :D

7:27 PM
@ShadowWizard Oh my God. Are you serious?!
Such hard times

@TravisJ You mean that stuff printed on woods??

Actually I'm amazed books survived the Internet and Kindle and its like

googles printed
@πάνταῥεῖ Yes! That stuff

@ShadowWizard People of 1960 would be surprised people still wear wool clothes in 2017.

@TravisJ yeah, that sixth sense is gone by now though, with Google available 24/7 ;)
@M.A.R. not everyone, some wear meat. :D

7:29 PM
Online it isn't really as noticeable, which benefits many people. But in person, there isn't really the opportunity to sit there and "let me google that" for every sentence.
I find myself enthused when I find people to talk to in person who have good finger-tip knowledge.

@TravisJ hehe, so you keep quiet, Google later, then on the next day you can share what you learned. ;)

I am kind of extroverted, so I guess that I just keep on talking if other people do that :( :) :?

@ShadowWizard I do that now, voluntarily.

Gotta catch em all?

@ShadowWizard CRINGE

7:32 PM
@TravisJ so you talk about other things?

@TravisJ Lol, I do that all the time IRL.

@ShadowWizard - Yeah, I have all sorts of useless education that I had to go through, so switching topics isn't problematic.

@JasonC oh my. And my brother used to put a chair on his head, and walk outside like that. (When mom made him angry.)

Although, I do wish there were people I know in person that I could talk about coding with. Even my friend with a PhD in CompSci has a different focus than I do, so we can only talk about language agnostic solutions.

You know... I totally feel that. I'm sad about that often.

7:35 PM
@TravisJ you can always talk about old computers, your first computer, etc. ;)

I don't know a lot of other coders, definitely not ones that can have interesting conversations.

Spaghetti hat religion :D

A lot of my college friends were good for that but they're all scattered around the world now.

The chair on head thing made me think of that

7:36 PM
@TravisJ LOL... but isn't it part of some religion? (flying monster something...?) Googles

@JasonC - Yeah, and even then they probably end up working on a different tech stack than you. Or at least, that is what happened with me.

Yeah

The Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) is the deity of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or Pastafarianism (a portmanteau of pasta and Rastafarian), a social movement that promotes a light-hearted view of religion and opposes the teaching of intelligent design and creationism in public schools. According to adherents, Pastafarianism is a "real, legitimate religion, as much as any other". Pastafarianism is legally recognized as a religion in the Netherlands and New Zealand – where Pastafarian representatives have been authorized to celebrate weddings and where the first legally recogniz...

@ShadowWizard - It does seem like most people have "built their own computer", but then when you ask them how did they design the ALU they look at you all cross eyed.

I've got one buddy who lives in Boston, I see him once or twice a year, he's good for deep abstract programming conversations. That's about all I get.
And occasionally when I go back to Pittsburgh, one of my old coworkers lives there. He can relate on a specific level. But, it's a bummer. There's only chat rooms and IRC, really.

7:38 PM
@TravisJ this is the same as Trump. They are both so ridiculous, that it just overflowed and became real.

@ShadowWizard This is one group of people who you should respond to as 'WE GET IT, OK'

@ShadowWizard - Overflowed into the negative :(

@TravisJ lol, I know. :)
But no religion was involved in case of my brother. ;)
@TravisJ looking at you all cross eyed

@JasonC - I tried going to a VS Live conference once, figuring that there would be plenty of people to talk with regarding using the asp.net mvc framework (this was back during mvc 4); but the only people I could find that knew enough were the presenters, and even then some of them probably didn't even have as much depth as I did :( So we ended up talking about drinking and travelling.
As a default, everyone can talk about what they like to drink, and where they would like to go.

@M.A.R. yup, about the only way.... ;)
@TravisJ no sports?? ;)

7:42 PM
lol!
I love sports, but probably not as easy to find people who also love sports in tech.

The team plays in the Israeli Premier League and internationally in the EuroLeague. The club started in the mid-1930s, as part of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Sports Club, which had been founded in 1906. This year is their worst ever..... :/

Cool :) Do you attend the games and such since its local to you?
Best time to go! Cheap tickets, no beer lines, and true fans ;)

@TravisJ she does, when we were still dating she took me with her to one game. And there it ended. (Games for me, I mean. ;))

hah

I do watch the games abroad with her on TV out of courtesy. ;)

7:46 PM
Are the rules the same as in the US? 3 pointers, one or two free throws for fouls, dunking, etc.?

@TravisJ later two are true, tickets cost the same. And she has a subscription for whole year. :/

Hm, no cheap tickets? Bummer. At least if its empty you can relocate to closer seats though, right?

@TravisJ almost same. We have four quarters of 10 minutes each. :)
@TravisJ heh, not sure... have to ask her. :)
But she doesn't go anymore this year since she gave birth.
At least she won't miss a lot, the team didn't make it to the next level in the Europe League.

I went to a LA Rams (NFL) game this year and when we got there the stadium was rather empty so we managed to stand in the first row for a while.

@TravisJ nice! "we" means you and your wife?

7:52 PM
Normally she would have gone, but she missed this game unfortunately. It was myself and a friend.

@TravisJ we also have three free throws if the foul was made while throwing to 3 points, isn't it like that in USA?

Yup that's the same

Makes sense, otherwise it won't be "fair". :)
Basketball game in USA is 48 minutes, right? @Travis

I think it is 4 15s
Hm, nope, your right
4 12's

:)
Well, I loved NBA as teenager, one of my first PC games was NBA with the real teams and players. DOS game, was awesome. :D
So guess some things just stick in memory...

7:55 PM
Nice! Was it NBA Jam?
I loved that one as a kid

wow, check out those bits :D

I knew all players by heart back then, it was crazy.

Apparently there are letter references to how you play games. I play them in a T shape, where I go really in depth in one, but don't really get into many others.

Thinking about it, I got lots of PC games as kid/teenager. No idea how I had time to play them all. Quite sad when I think about it, though sometimes friends came over to play with me.
@TravisJ huh? What do you mean?

8:00 PM
Some things are impossibru to google for
I can't find the list of the gamer style types by letter for example
Anyway, everyone has different gaming styles. Some people like to play many games, each until completion, and then move on. Some like to play a few games, until completion, but repeatedly. Some like to play many games, but get everything in each one before moving on. etc etc
There is a letter association for the different types.
(tmi?)
I, uh, don't have a gaming problem.

@TravisJ ohhh, lol. Never knew this got a name. Well, as teenager I just played whatever games I had, completed what I could but didn't try hard. If I got stuck I just quit and moved on. As adult it became few games, one at a time, mostly two, until completion.
In very rare cases I quit when it was really hard and/or boring.

I guess I like the challenge. The more difficult the better, which is probably why I enjoyed chess so much.
There is always someone better at chess.. at least somewhere.

And played same game again only once, Okami. All others only once.
@TravisJ oh, @Pro is good at chess. And @berserk.
You play online?

Nice :)

@Pro is mod there, and really good from what I know and saw. :)

8:07 PM
I used to, on occasion I will go play some anon at lichess. I have a USCF rating of 1750
Although it is probably a little low, should be ~1900, but I just don't play enough in person rated games.
I helped mod at ICC in a past life

Yeah, online ratings are much higher than actual ratings, I would probably beat him at a good rate in anything slower than 2 0. He seems pretty quick

Shog9Funny story... When I first joined the team here at Stack Exchange, Jeff just went around on the trilogy sites and made me a moderator... And he used the "elected" route instead of the "appointed" route, for reasons that are no doubt lost to time (or maybe they're preserved in chat, I can't be ...

Permissible, but not beneficial
Ok, now it is time for moderate happiness

Woah woah woah, I didn't agree to moderate my happiness

Always such fun

I'd like to solve the puzzle. Algae.
Next question?

Is there a url I can use to view the markdown source of a post?
I think there is but I don't remember
Given a post id
I also thought I remembered a "view source" button but maybe not

11:36 PM
there is, but I'm not sure it's easy to get to as a regular user.

user315433
Other than using the API, I think one has to go to revisions page, like stackoverflow.com/posts/43008815/revisions and then access the top "source" link on that page.

yup, but you'll need to manually create the URL if there haven't been any public edits to the post.

user315433
It seems the API route is preferable. Just request body_markdown.

Was the revision history of stackoverflow.com/posts/184673/revisions manually deleted or something? The comments make reference to other revision numbers (there apparently were at least 6), but none of them are in the history. I don't care about that particular post but I stumbled on it messing with some other sede stuff, and it seems like an oddity.

user315433
Jeff occasionally nuked revisions in case of edit wars.

11:48 PM
Ah that must be it. In context, that looked like it would've been a prime candidate for nuking.
Well, I need to admit that I, as an old SE user, mostly didn't read the help center. I've thought there is some long, boring lawyer-language what the SE has to post everywhere to protect itself against some US laws. I've first started to read the help center pages as I've first experienced the massive content destruction what is so common on many SE sites, and I looked for intellectual munition against it - and I've found nothing. — peterh 1 min ago
