Academic publications are judged, mainly, on two grounds: correctness and importance. A paper which contains incorrect statements should, unquestionably, be rejected from publication. However, importance is a more subjective issue. Typical rejection message related to importance are:

Hello, I've noticed a dead link in one of the SO blog posts. Not sure what to do. Should I make a question on Meta SE? Should I mail team@stackexchange.com ?
In Arqade, the featured tab had a blue square with the number 1 in it, meaning that there is a question with a bounty on it. But surprisingly, it said that there weren't any featured questions at the time, even after refreshing the page three times in a row:
This is weird since the featured ta...
hello, I have identified the following goals of Q&A websites such as SE: 1. Provide access to (contributing) correct information. 2. Provide the ability to learn as well as teach. 3. Reward users for doing all of this correctly.
Am I somewhat correct about this? Am I missing something?
@AppAraat Sounds pretty right to me especially point 1 about building a library of quality Q/A that can be accessed by others having similar questions / problems
@AppAraat Well I don't know about all resources, there's a place for general discussion and entertainment sites. Lots of sites don't allow any feedback and others (like Facebook) only allow 'likes' not 'dislikes'. Why do you ask doing some sort of assignment?
@AppAraat I think the Stack Exchange model works pretty well for that and Wikipedia seems to work pretty well too. Not that either are perfect but I think the general idea of putting information in front of a lot of people and allowing edits, comments and in the case of SE posting alternative answers along with voting works pretty well.
I occasionally find myself with a lump of dough which I want to divide into three equally sized pieces (like for making 3 pizza bases). I could weigh it but it typically means getting the scales out and dirty and having to cut pieces off and re-knead them into the dough. Eye-balling kinda works b...
Get some dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) or liquid nitrogen if you're cool. Dunk your water bottle into one of those for about 30 seconds for dry ice, 5 for liquid nitrogen. This will cool your bottle super-fast and even turn some of the water into ice. To increase the rate of heat transfer away f...
anyone willing to take a moment and review a gold-hammer close on someone's question? I don't think it's a duplicate of the indicated question due to a small and hard to notice difference
I guess not -
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. this looks like a command to smokedetector?
Taking advantage of how the child has limited technical knowledge as a result of shielding her from the internet and deliberately misleading her to think of the internet as a purely scary place populated by malicious people is overly manipulative and a breach of trust. All children deserve better than being "scared straight" with biased and misleading information. — bjb568Jul 4 at 20:40
@CodeJockey I asked a couple of people to have a look because I wasn't sure but the consensus seems to be that the question isn't different enough to warrant re-opening.
Oh, uh, for the close vote data @rene? Might take a bit. I didn't ever make a local backup, so I'll have to spin up an instance. Hopefully by the weekend if I remember.
