@JasonC You were paged to the Tavern. People were worried about you.

Swift 2 has Real Changes (c)
And it isn't backwards-compatible without a few changes

considering Brad's answer, the current [swift] tag, should cover the current/newest swift version.

@UnicornsAreVeryVeryYummy Dunno, but there's nothing I can do about a rollback war

Actually, the OP could even delete the post themselves: if they unaccepted self-answer, deleted it, and then deleted the question. The other answer has no upvotes.

Why lock it? The user obviously wants it deleted, why not just delete it?

@TinyGiant Ask Martijn. Probably on MSO I guess

user259867
No, I'm not flagging over such thing. Yes, deletion would be reasonable too... especially because it's kind of user-ish type of question.

@Braiam I think you might have read the MSO perl5.10/5.8 guy's comment as saying the opposite of what he might have been saying. Maybe.
I think he said knowledge of one version WOULD carry over, not that it wouldn't. But yeah it was confusing.

@NormalHuman How does that not have an upvote? (it does now ;) )

Possibly, because it was posted 8 months after the activity in that thread died down...

Pugs is a compiler and interpreter for the Perl 6 programming language, started on February 1, 2005 by Audrey Tang. Pugs development is now placed on hiatus, with most Perl 6 implementation efforts now taking place on Rakudo. == Overview == The Pugs project aims to bootstrap Perl 6 by implementing the full Perl 6 specification, as detailed in the Synopses. It is written in Haskell, specifically targeting the Glasgow Haskell Compiler. Pugs includes two main executables: pugs is the interpreter with an interactive shell. pugscc can compile Perl 6 programs into Haskell code, Perl 5, JavaScript, or...
> The major/minor version numbers of Pugs converges to 2π (being reminiscent of TeX and METAFONT, which use a similar scheme); each significant digit in the minor version represents a successfully completed milestone. The third digit is incremented for each release. The current milestones are:

Shog9Oh yeah. Sarcasm is totally acceptable. Also good: insulting the OP's mother.

user259867
I thought you were being sarcastic in your title. Because it never occurred to me that sarcasm could ever be unacceptable. — jjnguy Jul 14 '09 at 18:10

3:24 AM
@NormalHuman Thing is, they didn't know it was going to be different language. They thought it would be incremental change, not radical redesign. By the time they'd changed their minds and made a new language, it was too late to fix the name. That locked regular perl into the perl5 name and this new really different language into the perl6 name. And perl6 is really only an ivory-tower distraction that will never be production ready. It changes all the time and what works is 10-100x slower than perl.
Everybody wishes everything were different, but there's nothing to be done.

user259867
So, as Perl5 develops further in an incremental way, that will be 5.9, 5.99, 5.999, ...

Huh?
"Ever decides"?

user259867
Okay, changed.

Perl has regular monthly dev releases and regular annual stable releases.
Clockworklike.
Even release numbers are stable, odd release numbers are dev.
5.22 is current stable and 5.23.1(?) is current dev. Last year's was 5.20 and then 5.21.1-whatever.
It's constantly worked on.
But we can never change the first number. It sucks.

user259867
At least there is enough room for 40 years of development...

3:29 AM
How so?
Nothing is stopping a 5.102.0 release.
Or 5.2001.0 either.
Version numbers are whole numbers, not percentages.

user259867
Yeah, I was thinking in decimal fraction terms. Should totally drop this chat and go close some questions instead.

I did my chores for the night, thank you. :)
Perhaps one should go edit some questions instead of closing others.
I think we should go to year numbers: 5.2015.0 for this year, etc. :)
Do we really need to reopen this question, or should we delete it? Or get it locked? Or migrate it to offtopic.stackoverflow.com? :)

It needs six more delete votes to delete and only four more reopen votes to reopen.

user259867
"only four more reopen votes" is a lot.... it's out of 5, and reopen votes do age away.

user259867
Historical lock might make sense, I never know what exactly qualifies for it.

3:45 AM
@NormalHuman I got helpful on this historical lock request but, obviously, it didn't happen.
I was told to go ask in MSO.

user259867
On Math, the approach of mods is that the question should get deleted first; then they'll consider resurrecting in the locked state.

user259867
Of course, Math moderation is not necessarily similar to SO moderation, but this approach does make sense.

Ok, then please go DV it some moar paleasy. :)

@U̶n̶i̶h̶e̶d̶r̶o̶n̶ yeah that was my concern too. How about retagging? author->poster (not the other way 'round because original-poster will likely eventually resurrect even if we delete it now)

@gnat I think that is also an option given that we consider OP to be the term we use, not author (or OA for that matter)

@rene okay this means 17 questions to retag. My plan is, first to flag for moderator to synonymize (I'll refer them here for details) and if flag gets declined, proceed with retagging. Any objections?
...if moderator prefers synonymize, this would mean less clutter at front page (and no risk for someone resurrecting original-author by mistake). If not, no big deal

@gnat post on MSE for retag request
if no consensus, don't do anything
