Q: How can I manipulate the DOM without a library like jQuery?

bjb568I am used to using jQuery for manipulating the DOM, for example: var mything = $("#mything"); mything.on("click", function() { mything.addClass("red"); mything.html("I have sinned."); }); But now I want to do the same things with Vanilla JavaScript. Is this possible? How can I do it? ...

Hmph, this seems to be pretty controversial.

Nicolas Clément (1779–1842) was a French physicist and chemist. Also known as Nicolas Clément-Desormes, he was born in Dijon. He was a colleague of Charles Desormes, with whom he conducted the Clément-Desormes experiment. The two chemists are also credited with determining an accurate value of gamma in the gas law (see Equation of state) that relates the heat capacity of air when expanded at constant pressure vs. constant temperature. They also conducted research on iodine and played a role in determining that it was an element. This research eventually led others to invent the process of photography...

@Braiam I'm going to start an overhaul of the review history page soon. It was something we wanted to do as part of the quality project, when we introduced the helper queue - it just turned out to be complex enough to become its own larger project.
People need to be able to see "That thing you spent time editing? Yeah, look how well it went on to do a month later", and it's also very useful to see how your review actions pair with the ultimate fate of the post.
I'd like to make this just become another part of your profile, although it kinda is now, it's not very easy to discover (or, much less, show off)

@TimPost What about declined flags? They need some care too. Currently they just get buried in the flag log unnoticed until you reach the warning threshold, then the system warns you.

@bummi gone

@Unihedron Yeah, what I'm thinking of doing is small bar graphs that shows something of a percentage. It's not just flags, how are your close votes ultimately falling? How are your triage actions ultimately falling? Because it's good to know that only, say, 10% of what you call unsalvageable actually ends up closed unanswered.

@TimPost So, a fancy inventory page? :)
Feb 3 at 13:23, by Unihedro
We also still need an inventory page - how much rep, flags, and cvs left for the day, etc.

6:38 AM
@Unihedron Ssssssssssssorda. When I start, I'm hoping to just grab a designer. I don't want to build something that compels people to use all their things:
Because knowing you can pull the trigger 95 more times isn't always a proper motivator in and of itself.

@TimPost True.

Knowing you have ammo left and stuff in your known tags, on the other hand? That's a pretty good thing.

So instead of an inventory page, it's more like a dashboard?

@Unihedron Yep. It's a place that shows you how you're doing by your actions being in line with eventual consensus, highlights things that really stand out from what you did in the helper queue, and gives you stuff to do based on how much 'ammo' you have left and targets you'd be likely to hit needing reviewed.

Splendid.
Good luck!

6:50 AM
Well, that's what I want, anyway. Any time you mix tags into it, you get kinda .. expensive .. pretty fast. But that's the big picture of what I'm going to try to push.
