Is it like CSS update day? Three sites I regularly visit have made changes to their design today...

Jin returned from vacation full of bacon. Whipping him into action seemed like an acceptable way to help him burn off all those extra calories.

Lies, no one's ever allowed to leave Meta. It is the Hotel California of Stack Exchange.

I think companies find it humorous to super glue the lids onto their bottles. They probably have meetings to discuss statistics on how many people complain that they couldn't get the lid off.

2:22 AM
@animuson There's a possibility that I'm chairperson of those committees.

How many answer deletions will trigger the auto-flag for subsequent deleted answers?

@animuson var deletionsToTriggerFlag = user.DisplayName == 'animuson' ? 1 : 42;

Well, I just deleted four so if there's a flag in there I'm sorry! o.o

I was too lazy to hover over his name to see the id in the link, shush >_<

Excuses!
Hmm..
Oh wow, that's...embarrassing. >_<

3:22 AM
wonders if Tim Stone is embarrassed about the thingadongdong

Yeaaaah, not sure how I didn't catch that.

user200500
Bet that means the DataExplorer is fixed

And Tim Stone will reap his embarrassment with free Meta repz

I have seen a post in MSO where I can check different types of format I can use in my post. I remember there were a good no of answers making several types of designs in the posts; the highest voted answer had a revolving football. If anybody remembers the post, please share the link!

Q: Formatting Sandbox

Ólafur WaageAs per Jeff's suggestion here in the comments. You can use this question as a formatting sandbox (if you can edit Community Wiki questions) and you can post answers if you want to test out formatting there as well. Beware that since the changes to syntax highlighting in December 2010, and the i...

@TimStone That must have been what you were doing that time I had to get the red pen out.
I've figured out how the weather works here finally.
The roads are nearly driveable; we can't have that. Time for more snow!

I navigate the UI like a ninja when I see a question with 4 close votes.

Hahaha, nice.
Hey @Asad, hims056 and I wiped our comments on this question, as they're irrelevant now.

user200500
@jadarnel27 Deleted mine

And thus my OCD was satisfied. Thanks =P
Dude's first comment just kind of bugged me. It wasn't helpful to the OP; their grasp of English is obviously not outstanding, and hims056 comment just said "Any you used the example of MSO???"
When it should have been something like, "Using an example from MSO to explain your question is probably not a good idea, since the purpose / scope of SO and MSO are so different. The same rules don't apply in both places."

user200500
A great many people here aren't native speakers (myself included), so you've got to try it and parse it a couple of ways before you get it. I don't think he was being confusing on purpose though.

I'm sure it wasn't on purpose, but I"m still not sure what the OP wants.

6:44 AM
@Asad Of course! I'm totally aware that there are a lot of non-native English speakers. I just think it was a lazy, unhelpful comment - not that it was intentionally confusing.
@LanceRoberts I think Telthien has it right in his (somewhat long-winded) answer. The OP is asking about two classes of questions, and whether they are appropriate for SO.

user200500
@LanceRoberts I think they basically got confused about why there was a subjective question on MSO.

user200500
Without, you know, realising that the rules are different.

I wasn't sure if maybe he was saying the first type was ok, but not the second.

The two classes of questions being a. "I need to sort an array of integers; how do I do that?", and b. "I need to sort an array of integers, and I've decided to use Bubble Sort. Is Bubble Sort an acceptable solution?"

I thought that answer was good and upvoted it.
@jadarnel27, yep.

6:56 AM
"This is a meta tag. Do no use it!" <- is this... like.. allowed?

Wouldn't that problem solve itself eventually?
Err, guess not :P

I seriously don't if that is allowed, I haven't went into the tag-wiki world and don't remember if those kind of tags are allowed, but I guess I will find out when that tag remains or disappears

user200500
You mean that kind of tag summary? Sure, all it means is that the tag is on a highway to burnination. Speaking of which:

Q: Burninate [differences]

AsadWhat it says on the tin. With 106 questions, the differences tag is described solely as a tag that should not be used.

@Asad thanks, you saved me time in my journey of knowing the truth behind the mysteries of my doubts

7:07 AM
I want to request to burninate just because it would be really meta.

user200500
How would you tag it?

What tags on Meta aren't meta?

Shouldn't we burninate all non-meta tags on Meta?

Pundits would have so much fun with a .gate TLD.

I am omitting random words: "I seriously don't if that" from my last chat comment, or " I must be something wrong" from here

WTF who keeps going on the VLQ flag sprees on Meta?
I'm not marking these as invalid - they deserve to get big fat declines all the way down the board. o.o

Why searching is looking weird all of a sudden? I can not see details of Questions like upvotes etc
It is looking horrible. Please bring old UI back. Thanks

@rohan-patel: most likely

Hmmm. There is no mobile version of the new search results page. I get the desktop theme on my Android phone.

@rohan-patel I agree, my bookmark of SO was a search query :(

@jadarnel27 Hmm, that makes me sad-face.

Indeed, Tim. Indeed.

Q: A new search engine for Stack Exchange

Nick CraverAfter the performance problems we have run into with Lucene.NET we've decided to make a change, we're moving the network on to elasticsearch. The test screen is a little hidden at the moment until we swap all search over, but here's a link to get there. Note that searches via the top box will ki...

I was trying to look up the "homework tag is deprecated" post earlier to reference it, and had a confusing time.

I think the main problem I'm having with the new search is I don't expect to find the start of the title over there. I'm so used to those pretty boxes that my mind starts further to the right.

There's not enough vertical padding.

@animuson : Yeah. This new design looks completely bizzarre to me.. :/ I am seeing very dense, highly populated screen in front of my eyes..
There should be an option I suppose to switch between old search and new search.. Like two themes..
so those who do not like can stick to old ones

user200500
9:31 PM
Plus the help page is completely gone.

user200500
They just have that expandable thing at the right, which is nice, but they should have kept the old search help page.

Heh, the search in Chrome's inspector console apparently allows for regexes.
"Let me search for this regex in the minified code...wait a second...huh"

I like this new "full" menu option in the revision history that expands the revision to include the entire post rather than just the snippets of where changes were made. :)

9:49 PM
lol, wtf at that suggested edit? cc: @animuson

What, he's done 4 of those...

Seriously?

raises brow

He must've gotten edit-banned since he stopped. :P

9:54 PM
I was like "Why do I have a suggested edit on that post?"

That was by far the worst one though. xD I like to know why he thought more dots would make the post better...
Oh wait, let me add more dots to that.........................

Dots are srs bsns man, and that's a super important issue.

10:50 PM
..... is a super ellipse.

For added suspense, no doubt.
"What will we see in the screenshot? I can't wait to find out!"

.....!

11:46 PM
Ok, I give up: where is that MSO post that always gets edited per major deploy to enumerate the new goodies? For example, the Search has just changed, plus at least one other thing, and I would like to find the list again.
Or maybe it hasn’t been updated yet. Reasonable queries for recent updates came up empty.
Hello, R’lyeh, still sleeping?
I know I am just one users [sic], but still.
I still find it embarrassing that it can’t count.

just now I realize that this tavern isn't for drinking, I am just disappointed

@RamyAlZuhouri Actually, this room's "Happy Hour" event starts in a couple hours just ended. Not that that usually means much.
