3:20 AM
I never really liked jQuery UI, but the site changes they made are just terrible.

Yeah, the documentation is now much harder to use

Exactly, yeah.

Eek.
You mean there's a more lightweight way of getting a modal dialog box? :P

I'm scared that you knew what widget I was using.

Well, that and datepicker are probably the most commonly used ones.

3:30 AM
I gave up arguing about jQuery UI at work, because no one else seemed bothered by the fact that despite all the bloat it still manages to not do what you need half the time.

Heh.

What are you using it for?

In this case, just a simple dialog form.
The jQuery UI model of "pass all the things as strings!" to the named functions drives me a bit crazy too. I know why they did it, but it still irks me. dialog.dialog('close'); |:

Indeed.
They should drop that functional programming junk and just use jQuery.

It's those damn chain programmers.
...Says the person who used absurd chaining in the chat userscript.

3:45 AM
Those absurd chains are... are...

Hmm, there was something I was going to add to one of the scripts the other day, but now I've gone and forgotten...

auto-updating! q;

Yeah, I have a note about that. What exactly were your expectations there, anyway? Since you're saying auto updating and what not.

hmm? eh, I don't care about the "auto" part. a note/prompt like the keyboard shortcut script does is fine...it's more the "updating" part that I care about (;

I take it no one fixed the bounty dialog? :p

3:49 AM
has nothing to do with that really. chrome made installing userscripts a pita. I don't even ever remember to go look for updates....and if I don't, how do I expect anybody else to? (;

Fair 'nough
I need to put my Dapper changes through their paces first, but I'll get back to that too.

even without the chrome install change, easy updates are a win.

I did start working on it the other weekend, I just didn't get completely done for some reason.
Actually, let me physically write a to-do list so I actually...do...the to-dos.
I will accept bribes for whatever anyone wants done first.

Physically...write?

@mootinator I've resorted to the sticky note on the monitor approach.

3:53 AM
Couldn't you just spend several hours configuring some bug tracking software?

Good point, I should totally drop that and set up BugZilla.

9 hours later…
1:18 PM
I keep thinking that today is Friday.

1:34 PM
Which is disappointing because it's not Friday. In case you guys didn't know.

1:47 PM
I think it's Friday in Australia. (And it's always Friday in Iceland, of course.)

2:09 PM
That's a fine point, Daniel! I'll try that on my manager.

2:36 PM
ColdFusion mostly makes me want to stab it.

Pops-Perturbing Pedantic Problem of the Day: other MSO users. (Not all of them. Just most of you. Er, I mean, them.)

2:52 PM
Those are the worst kind of people.

People are the worst kind of people.

L'enfer, c'est les autres. Right, @Pop?

I'm not sure I'd go quite that far just yet... ask again in a few years.

@PopularDemand Hmm, I'm curious about the context for this. I'll be awaiting your telepathic elaboration.

@TimStone So, yeah, now you know the whole story.
(Hm, should I have waited for your telepathic read receipt before I said that?)

Ah, of course. I agree, unfortunately. nods

3:58 PM
Okay, seriously though, I'm perturbed by certain people I just can't figure out. And there's nothing really MSO-specific about it, or even SE-specific; it's just that I've seen it several times on MSO recently, and besides, this is MSO's chat. I see three options:
1) they're trolls, but only mild ones, and they aren't even very good at trolling 2) they don't think before they act, and just repeat information/rules they've heard before with no regard for context 3) they mean well, but even after thinking about their actions, they make the wrong decisions about what actions to take

Oh, that sounds just like a (democrat|republican)!

@PopularDemand L'Enfer, c'est les autres.

@PopularDemand Hmm, hypothetical example?
I think I know what you're referring to, though.

people

You would say that, being a (Tory|New Democrat|Grit|Green).

4:03 PM
Heheh. Missed me. ;)

@TimStone Hmm... hard to come up with one that's truly hypothetical but still useful. I guess something like removing the tag from an MSO post because it's a meta tag, even though the post is actually about subjective questions?

Ah, gotcha.

Makes sense.

4:34 PM
@mootinator ...Rhinoceros Party?

After Hours Party?

(My fellow non-Canadians: no, seriously.)

@PopularDemand I wouldn't do this again, but yet, there it is.
I should just be more intellectually honest and start something called The Irrelevant Party and go with that.

Kevin MontroseJust gonna take your word on this one, the space will be there in the next build.

Uh oh, people are starting to believe me.

Heheh. Missed me. ;)
MONARCHIST

... it's Canada, they have a monarch. Now quit your bringing up of old news and help search for the missing pony!

Remember that time monarchists burned down the white house?
Neither do I. I wouldn't be surprised if the mint releases a coin commemorating it though.

5:58 PM
They had blanks for it. Those were burnt ;-)

6:27 PM
Is Meta down for anyone else? I tried isup.me, but that is down for me too. Most sites work fine, though.

Yeah, I tried that, it's also down for me.

@PopularDemand Nope, seems fine. I was having some odd issues at home this morning, though.
Gremlins in teh tubez, no doubt.

Also isitdownrightnow.com, before you suggest that as well.

Oddly enough, downforeveryoneorjustme.com tells me that isup.me is down, but it works just fine for me.

6:29 PM
Oh, son of a...

(and so does meta)

Your opinion is irrelevant, as Meta is served from your home computer.

6:53 PM
Heh

Four of a kind beats full house.

You win this round (of Meta poker).

All I have is 15 for two, 15 for four, and a run for 7.

Uh guys, I'm missing a card.

That's 03080. Three of a kind, tens.

7:06 PM
Ah, display bug.
It also means any new user without an active account elsewhere has a pretty good hand.

speaking of display bugs

7:44 PM
Ah, now I see the problem … OK then you’re unfortunately right, that of these four tags bugs is the “best”. — Speravir 32 mins ago
Just once, I'd like for someone to say I'm right without a qualifier like "unfortunately," "technically" or "annoyingly."

Is area51.SE intermittently down for anyone?

@PopularDemand annoyingly you're right?

@ObsessiveSSOℲ yes

@PopularDemand I was going to question your change earlier, but guessed your reasoning and decided it made sense.

:1154921 Should be cleared up pretty quickly if it hasn't already.

7:50 PM
@Shog9 It looks good now, it reported an error only once. Any status on when the stack2rss and other services still in NY will resume?

I wouldn't expect them to resume in NYC in the very near future. Getting them turned on in Oregon could happen sooner, but not the first priority.

2 hours later…
9:46 PM
@Shog9 NYC is expecting power by the end of the weekend. I'd say that sometime next week wouldn't be crazy, if power is the main issue.

@Moshe Yeah - if power stabilizes, things will get much easier.

@Shog9 remind us about those services tomorrow please

@Zypher will-do

10:23 PM
That slacker who was working on the elections site should probably get around to making those changes...

10:48 PM
@Shog9, @Zypher - If there's anything I can do to help let me know. I'm in Brooklyn for now, but if I can help next week, and school doesn't pick up, I'll gladly make my way over.

Has Data.SE always been in OR, or was it part of the fallover? If so, is it on a system with lower specs than it was in NY?

it's always been in OR

@JeremyBanks Why, did you make the server sad? :P
It's getting shinier hardware though. \o/

Anonymous
@TimStone Not exactly :P A query that worked more often than not is repeatedly timing out.

Link?

Anonymous
11:00 PM
Not a good query, and it did time out sometimes, but usually it would work after one or two tries.

Anonymous
Nevermind, it just worked.

And with that, I should go home.

This is my accomplishment for the day. It's very exciting.
