Mwuahaha silver feature-request badge >:D

But no status-completed badge to go with? I am disappoint.

Well, I have a bronze status-completed badge...

3:41 AM
status-completed

status-revoked

Oh snap

4:23 AM
status-brown

4:39 AM
so what's with the random full-length movies showing up on youtube?

@Purmou I've been marvelling about that as well!
They made my transatlantic flight fun

you paid for wifi in-flight?
I have unfortunately never been on a flight with wifi. :(

Nooo, that would probably cost a car's worth of money
Just loaded them the night before.

ah, yeah
it's really strange--most of them have been up for a while, but not taken down. maybe companies are milking ads off of them?
whatever the case is, it's pretty awesome.

I don't know. Yeah, they have been up for a while and they have massive view counts

4:46 AM
are you still in SF?

Maybe free advertising for their new streaming service? But they charge there for the same movies that you can get for free
@Purmou yeah! In Berkeley to be exact.
I found a cool garden cottage for a 2-week stay before I'll start another tour

ah, beautiful place.

Yeah, very much so. And quieter than SF proper

I love Northern Cali.
in retrospect, all of Northern California is muuuuuch calmer than SoCal

Me, too. Although if I rent a car again, I will probably take a peek at the LA area as well.
Calmer in what sense, you mean the people?

4:48 AM
just the general hustle--SF is an exception (and I haven't been to Sacramento), but it's far less industrial, form what I remember of a few trips

True, true.
The only thing I need now is a bicyle. I'll go search for a used one tomorrow.

Nice! What do you plan on doing?
or just to bike around, save gas money?

I have no specific plans, chilling and exploring the area a bit. Yeah, the bike would be to get around, bus and BART are cool but expensive in the long run.

well, it sounds like you're fitting in quite well with the community :P

Oh yeah! :) I definitely do. I almost feel like I'm living here already. Got a Safeway club card and a checking account....
Although american "share the road" roads really scare me a bit. I've done a lot of city cycling in Cologne and London, and never been scared before... but maybe that goes away once I'm on the road and in the flow.

4:53 AM
just be assertive. I'm not sure quite sure how the people are in Berkeley, but in LA it helps to be firm.
People here will seldom give you the right of way, especially bicyclists.

Right, that sounds like it might be the key. It's definitely how the bicyclists here behave - probably with good reason :)
Driving a car was no problem at all, though. I did 1500 miles last week and I've never had such a relaxed time on the road. German drivers tend to be much more aggressive and impatient

if you do end up getting to come down the coast, it'll be one of the greatest drives.

Cool!

the few times we've driven up to San Francisco, we've taken the highway that's right along the coast. It's so beautiful and serene. Truckers usually take the freeway that goes from the inside since it's a shorter route

hey, if anyone is active, i just happen to see a comment that was left by a user with less than 50 rep.
he isn't the owner of the post and neither was there any deleted answer converted to a comment by a mod.

link?

This appears to be a duplicate question: askubuntu.com/questions/123124/…hnasarat 3 hours ago
Balpha --^

hmmm

Same confusion :|
he didn't have any rep given away as bounty. doubt there was any association bonus as well.

no, they posted it as an answer, and it was auto-converted to a comment

7:49 AM
@jokerdino could it be that the answer was posted with a link in it and it got auto-converted to comment?
bah

just not sure that should happen for people who can't comment

@balpha auto convert? @_@
never heard of that before

A: How could this user98776 leave a comment with only 1 rep?

tombull89This could possibly be an effect of Answer appears automatically converted as a comment. Trivial answers containing a link to another question in the network are automatically converted to comments on the question. This would explain it, although I would have thought there would be somethin...

Don't worry, it's not well known.

Thanks.

Hooray for process explorer.

\o/

3:42 PM
Why am I getting spam for a job that pays less than 1/2 what I make and sounds unpleasant in comparison?
Make $500 a week might have been a good spam lede in 1984...

3:55 PM
Just to celebrate a little. Yay useless 1k rep on MSO.

woot woot
(translation: \o/)

useless? you can now see downvotes/upvotes o_o

@mccarthynator Thanks for the translation. Almost didn't understand. (Poor joke :|)
@ajax333221 oh yeah. I was talking about the meta rep in general.

@mccarthynator But you could be making $500 / week online AT HOME for doing nothing! Click here for the URGENT details!

@jadarnel27 See, even that would have been OK.

3:58 PM
Hahaha, wow - it didn't even have that much fluff to it?

This one said "You can be my personal assistant for $500 a week." Yeah, no thanks buddy.

lol, nice. That's pretty bad.

Spam. How much I wuv them since 1996.
OK good night :P

4:16 PM
@mccarthynator Oh, I mistakenly sent that advert to you? My bad.

@TimStone I imagine you intended to send that to animuson?

Perhaps, although I heard he's applied elsewhere now.

4:50 PM
Knock knock.

5:05 PM
Who's there?

5:31 PM
Uncomfortable silence who?

@jadarnel27 Hey, you destroyed my joke.
The following would have summed up my morning.
"1 Hour Later..."
"A Grails application"

@mccarthynator ...You started telling a "knock knock" joke. You didn't really need my help for it to be destroyed =)

:D
Seriously though.
I've been trying to run a very simple test for the last 2.5 hours.
Time to install some profiling tools to see what stupid broken thing someone committed to it.

That is some serious garbage.

5:55 PM
Anyone know how this post was deleted? There's no delete notice for it in the revision history...

6:06 PM
Why is my post deleted, "A moderator has deleted this post and it cannot be undeleted
(click on this box to dismiss)", any why do moderator's delete posts that usurp the community's wishes.
what a bunch of tyrannical nonsense.
There is nothing wrong with my answer.

Tyrannical nonsense? Why not! /kick EvanCarroll

slow clap

@ThiefMaster Tyrannical, that may have been. But where's the nonsense in that?

> Ask Patents was designed in collaboration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and Peer To Patent, whose efforts empowering citizens to help find prior art inspired our approach to prior art discovery. We are also working with Google to leverage the power of Google Patents Search and Google's new Prior Art Finder.

You can't see it without being in the private beta, but it has a new about page that looks (at a glance) friendly and polished.

Interesting... I joined just because I'm curious.

The FAQ has new sections, too:

What are the qualifications to join the private beta (since it wasn't an Area51 proposal)?

> I found prior art. Now what? You want to stop a patent from being granted in error? Finding prior art is just step one. Succinctly describing its significance is step two, and submitting it to the USPTO is step three. While patent examiners can search this site, the best way to ensure they see your discovery is to submit it using the USPTO electronic filing system, launching on September 16, 2012.

@animuson Apparently I meet the requirements to join the private beta.

People who had committed to the Software Law proposal.

Oh? I hadn't committed to that...

Nope, I hadn't committed to that either.

Anonymous
This looks like an awesome idea. I hope it does well.

7:00 PM
But I got in anyhow.

Do they have patent experts that are planning to come into this? I'm assuming some people from Google will be helping out or something. o.o

Maybe they can get apple's help.

> Google Patents is helping with prior art browsing and discovery. Google’s new Prior Art Finder searches for relevant inventions that precede the publication of a pending patent application. Hit “Discuss” at any patent or application on Google Patents and you’ll arrive at Ask Patents, where you can view questions about the invention or prior art or ask your own.

Prior art? ... NO!!!!

It doesn't say anything about invited experts, but given that they have partnerships with Google and the patent office, I wouldn't be surprised...

/me stops jumping around and sulks back to work.

I'm not sure why I felt the need to join the private beta.
I have absolutely nothing to contribute.

Interesting, they left in the "Why does this site look so neutral?" FAQ section which clearly doesn't apply...

Heh.
Q. Can we just go ahead and reject any "gesture based" UI patents and include a clip of "Minority Report" with the rejection letter?

User ID 43?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I was one too late!

7:11 PM
It won't let me flag comments. :o
Oh it was already deleted. Lame :(

1 hour later…
8:21 PM
@animuson This bug, perhaps?

Yeah, I hadn't read through Meta yet. :P

Ah, good then. I just stumbled across that and remembered your message from earlier =)
Kevin Montrose is fixing ALL the problems right now.

I just ruined my question by adding an alien example

Q: How should we vote on discussions?

ajax333221As you probably know, "Voting on meta is used as an expression of agreement or disagreement on contributions, rather than to point out a lack of quality or helpfulness". However, this doesn't seem to apply to discussion in certain cases, my reasoning below. Let's suppose we have this discussion...
