readonly-mode has existed forever, at least kinda of; Nick has recently perfected it. It's pretty nice when you move DBs or similar, and want to stay at least readable.

Perhaps the contributions to the Starfish Ad discussion triggered this....

This Saturday, October 23rd, starting at about 2 PM Pacific, we will be migrating all of our primary sites from the Corvallis, OR datacenter to the New York, NY datacenter.

Please be advised that this is a major move, and while we will do everything we can to prevent major service interruptions (largely with a read-only site mode we’re introducing), there may be a few hours of unavoidable downtime.

Currently on SO we have two very similar tags: networking (7677) network-programming (2639) Both are network and network programming related, have similar wiki entries. Don't we want to merge them and make synonyms? I vote for networking because x-programming on programming site is a tautolo...
