@sho I just want to know, were your more 1337 trollings your own creation, or were they influenced by others? (estimate your own strength, judge your opponents for the win)

user315433
Meta SE has low traffic and proportionally lower chat activity.

user315433
Mostly a place for mods of legacy sites to be unhappy about SO getting preferential treatment. :)

@qwer "should be"... ;) Alas, I don't see much dogpiling of closable posts here. :( (SmokeDetector excepted)

2:18 AM
@zaq legacy sites?

user315433
They are usually on the front page of the site, no need for posting them in chat. More eyes on the front page than in any chatroom, anyway.

@AwesomePoodles meh, MSE is small enough the review queue should be fine.

user315433
If something lives long enough to roll from the home page, it's probably not that bad a post.

@loltospoon I always find that angle a little amusing: the idea of folks at SO gleefully rubbing their hands together while mods sweat it out at their computers, whacking spammers and sweeping up dirt (not that you're picturing that, but some do). On the one hand, yes, even activity on Physics indirectly helps make SO a bit of money. On the other hand, anyone can use the network entirely for free. No payment necessary. And I think that gets overlooked an unfortunately large fraction of the time.

3:28 AM
Lol, the MSE chat room selections are hilarious.
I think half the rooms on this server are Shadow's. And then a My Little Pony room.

@Telkitty Yeah. I get really annoyed talking about JSON out loud, because the people I'm talking to always make the same joke or hide the same giggle. So I just use XML everywhere instead.
I love how that guy has been doing factory resets on his iPhone to stop the evil JSON program, but it keeps coming back.

Last Saturday, I was buying some fruits from a peddler, he complimented 'omg ms China, you look so young' then he questioned 'why aren't you smiling?' Obviously, he underestimated the superior intelligence of your 1337 tr011 - his compliment was nothing but a simple plot to get me buy more fruits. Sincerity, I know when it's lacking ...

user202362
Also I get contacted by my 1337 tr011s wannabes all the times - they want to challenge my 1337 status. Be glad when I actually reply because more than not, I will just ignore those contacts especially when I don't know you ...

I was reading some feng-shui manuals and I found out that hanging a cage with an owl on the North side of a room is supposed to bring good luck with reputation & bounties, so just caging.
But you could also try to repeat some random words sometime, just to add a "parrot" feature to the bundle.

As long as I have food and drink and a laptop (including internet access and, of course, power), I can do.

Come over to Israel in Yom Kippur, @Jason
Roads are all empty.

Oh man

Be ambulance driver, and you can drive a totally empty road for hours. :D

I actually got that experience in Manhattan exactly once, immediately after Hurricane Sandy when all the power was out. It was a ghost town, very post-apocalyptic. Never seen anything quite like it.

@JasonC yeah... felt weird, I bet.

No traffic lights, no traffic, like a handful of pedestrians who were as stupidly curious as myself, and me in my car.
Oh, and the one taxi that was out, who I almost ran into at a lightless intersection.
Which, getting into an accident with apparently the only other vehicle in Manhattan would have been kind of awesome in itself.

3:22 PM
Closest I had, not in Yom Kippur, is in the middle of a war, had to drive to army service and the roads were almost empty.

That's got to be a freaky feeling.
The hurricane was already weird enough I can't imagine adding the tension of fighting.

@JasonC something to tell your grandchildren.... ;)
@JasonC I didn't take part in the direct fighting, luckily.

Me and some friends did rent a truck to go help out along the coast after the hurricane. That's the closest thing I think I've experienced to a war zone. It was a complete disaster and the National Guard was there.

@JasonC nice... you're a good man. :)
How far away did you drive to help those people? @Jason

3:25 PM

Down to the rockaways so I guess uh...
Not far, about an hour, 15 miles.

Lol
Sorry to disappoint.

haha, still proud of you ;)

You want to know something funny about that trip?

@JasonC sure!

3:27 PM
I like to think I'm awesome at driving large trucks. And I did, we had a 28 foot truck driving through hurricane wreckage, without a scratch.
I've never damaged a rental truck in my life.

nice! You need special license for trucks, right?

Then when I returned it, I pulled into the gas station to get gas across the street from the rental place, like 50 feet left to go to home, and I clipped the freakin' fire suppression system at the gas station with the top, ripped right down the middle of the roof, and did $4k worth of damage.
No, only if they have more than two axles.
I'm going to work on my class C license this summer though.

@JasonC lol... when you ruin something, at least you do it big time.... ;)

Yeah... lol...
Go big or go home.

@JasonC what for?

3:32 PM
Long story, my social community / Burning Man crew here, we want to buy a semi truck and deck it out. That, and it comes in handy on a handful of occasions, for some reason maybe once or twice a year I find myself in a situation where a 3-axle truck is there but we're short on a driver.
I do a lot of volunteer event production and stuff for fun. So it'd be handy.

I see. Good for you!

Also for same crew we use 50-foot shipping containers a lot, and spend a lot of money moving them around.

> a 2-axle vehicle with a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or less.
a 3-axle vehicle weighing 6,000 pounds gross or less.
a motorized scooter.
any housecar 40 feet or less.
A farmer or employee of a farmer may also drive:
any combination of vehicles with a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) of 26,000 pounds or less if used exclusively in agricultural operations and it is not for hire or compensation.
will it onebox?
yup

How to write evil code: create an optional but non-nullable DateTime field, so it defaults to DateTime.MinValue, and have code where DateTime.MinValue actually makes sense. Now you have buggy code with working unit tests and code that doesn't crash at runtime, and you won't even know the code is buggy.
/rant

@ShadowWizard You also need a class C license in NY to drive a vehicle with 15+ passengers, which also comes in handy.
I intend to get an A/B eventually but not this year.
The laws vary by state.

3:41 PM
@Stijn why buggy? 01/01/0000 is a totally legit date.
(or is it 01/01/100?)

@JasonC lol, that can cause problems when people move between states...
i.e. in a split of a second one becomes a criminal

No, it generally goes by the state your license is issued in.
All the requirements are fairly similar so there aren't like, major problems.
I suppose the unspoken assumption is if you've done what it takes to get the license in your state, you theoretically know how to operate your vehicle no matter how the laws differ elsewhere, which is what matters.
I mean there's certain special cases. Like if you have an oversized vehicle you need to get permits for that trip before you drive in every state you pass through, and the process/requirements differs by state.
But that kind of stuff is more connected to how a state treats their own roads, rather than how a driver operates their vehicle.

user315433
I'm disappointed at the scale of SFSE thing, though: salesforce.stackexchange.com/… shows invalidations in low hundreds of rep points.

@zaq that's still like 20 votes. If you don't catch it before it gets worse then you've got bigger problems.

6:37 PM
well, small site; only one user on the site has over 100K. More importantly, low scores for posts - just a few votes can easily put you in the top for that week / month / whatever. Which tends to really put folks off.
Yeah, you get these invalidations on SO or Math or AU where folks are losing thousands of points, but usually those are over quite a few posts.
Even on SO, if you're consistently getting a half-dozen votes on your answers in a tag where 1-2 is the norm, that's really off-putting.
(unless you're actually writing really good answers, but usually that isn't what generates complaints)
