@bjb568 I don't speak English either!

Hablaba de ti mismo.
Damn it, I need to know your gender to speak correctly.
It feels so invasive.

español es malo porque todos tienen el género

Ouch.

(needed to look up the last word)

It isn’t actually true.
And todo is singular.
But yeah, all nouns do. Just not pronouns and articles, necessarily.
You can use it, this, that, that-yonder without a gender.
Just not people.
Nor things.

12:19 AM
@tchrist how's dat?

You had “todo *tienen”, which is like if you said “this are bad” in English in the lack of concord.

meh, just "everything"
how ya say dat?

Todo.
Doesn’t matter.
Everything is singular in English, too.

such complicate

12:25 AM
@bjb568 It's funny that you don't like grammar considering you're a programmer.

meh english can be abused. It's crap anyway

mmkay then.
I think @tchrist would disagree.

@Frank Define “exact amount of time”. Make sure to do so without compromising certainty of location.

@Frank What output specifically? Can implement on DD.

user273376
hmmm how long does a tag badge take to get awarded?

I think it's supposed to run daily, but it fails often.
IIRC, there was complaint about no update for a month.

user273376
ah okay... this is because I have 111 rep in a tag that is from 30+ Q and A's

1:08 AM
@SabreTooth The path to Mjölnir is long and deep.

user273376
eh?

And tortuous and torturous.

WHERE IS SPEAKER-TO-tchrist?

If you let the culture ferment long enough, you can get drunk on it.

user273376
and that answers my question how?

If you let the cultural situation in a certain place incite or stir up trouble or disorder for long enough, you can be overcome with a strong emotion because of it?

user273376
okay, I'll wait to get a proper serious answer

answer is be patient

1:17 AM
And I shall await a properly phrased question.

user273376
nevermind, I got a straight answer elsewhere (without the poetic fluffing about)

Life is too short to live it without poetry.
But seriously, if you came here looking for a straight answer, you may have come to the wrong place.

user273376
yeah, it would seem so - lesson learned - no straight answer help provided in MSE chat

Some rooms are more tortuous than others.

user259867
What's the current behavior of flagging comments left on deleted posts?

user259867
I see they are flaggable, and an old meta post confirms it: Are comments on deleted posts flaggable?

user259867
Then I saw this:

user259867
3
A: Flagged comment on question that got deleted

Robert HarveyComment flags no longer show up in the mod queue if the post containing the flagged comments is deleted.

2:18 AM
Only one way to find out!

user259867
If that's still accurate, the flag would be forever pending.

user259867
But a report on math says the flag was marked helpful: Illegal flagging of comments on a locked and deleted question

user259867
One possibility: Robert Harvey describes the scenario when the post is deleted after the comment is flagged. In that case, I imagine deletion triggering the dismissal of the comment.

user259867
But the scenario I'm interested in is flagging a comment on an already-deleted post.

@Woodface Put it to the test. :)

2:39 AM
Whoops, just converted an answer into a comment on the NAA post, instead of the right way around >.>

user259867
That's a pretty rare badge on per-site metas. Only one user has it on meta.math (not me).

user259867
More common on meta.SE, possibly because of high-profile posts with lots of answers (new features, etc).

@Woodface He earned the badge before Shog :O

Extra space between have and you.

Always

@bjb568 That not what she said!

Mar 1 at 1:18, by AstroCB
@Roombatron5000 It wasn't even invisible characters; it was just an extra space between "have" and "tried," which SO strips out, but which also gets past the filter.

:p

shog should just change those for word boundaries

3:37 AM
@bjb568 Shog uses altho in chat, but you start edit-wars for thru :(

user259867
SO doesn't even strip it out; the extra space is preserved in the HTML markup of the comment. It just has no effect, it being HTML.

A: Personal pronouns for animals

Barrie EnglandIn very general terms, dogs are thought of as male, and cats as female. Where the sex of an animal is known, it will be referred to by the appropriate pronoun. Where it is not, apart from dogs and cats, and possibly a few others, it will be considered male and referred to as he, or as neither mal...

I never believed that.
But Barrie England is, well, English. You know, where "she" is the neighour's cat. :)

:D
Among the tavern regulars, tellykitty, bluefeet, Anna Lear, Alexis and I are not male as far as I know.

3:46 AM
Hm… I guess cats are more female and kittehs are more male.
Kewl kittehs is so "k" that it's definitely male.

now that's just bizarre.

@InfiniteRecursion yah

3:52 AM
:O

user259867
Hm, there may be something to it... In Russian there are different words for a male cat (кот) and a female one (кошка). But only one word for a kitten (котёнок), which is of male grammatical gender.

Many languages have unrelated words for the two sexes of common domestic or familar creatures yet not for most wild ones.
Mare and stallion, cow and bull, hen and cock/rooster, doe and buck, hind and hart.
Yet for dogs and cats, our most common companions, we have no separate words for the paired sexes.
Then you have steers and capons and geldings and wethers and oxen.
Unclear to me if oxen have been fixed.
Ewe and ram (versus wether).
