I wonder how many people will notice that there was no opening bracket { on the first for loop, so this edit makes the code not work: stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/1591754

If you get post-banned because of a shared work-place IP (i.e. because of the behaviour of other users on that network), does that ban still carry over to your home IP?

Q: Can't answer questions, not even my own: Please note, I can still post questions, but not answers

ThaSaleniSince I joined Stack Overflow I couldn't post answers to any questions, not even my own questions. Is there something I should do in order to be allowed to do this? Everytime I try, I get this We are no longer accepting answers from this account. See this meta post to learn more.

3:58 PM
I'm pretty sure that the answer ban was caused by that guy and not someone on his IP...

@ThiefMaster So he did post answers at some point?

@Moshe Guinness Press apparently?

A: Chat room merge request: Everything Python into Python

Martijn PietersBy providing my own 'big fat notice', the 'merge' was managed all by our lonesome selves. As of 1:15 AM this morning the "Everything Python" room was frozen after 2 weeks of inactivity. The regulars have found their way across to the 'original' room, and I guess the old transcripts will forever ...

hrm, so I have a reference to a February 2009 page from the WayBackMachine.
so either you are wrong, or the WBM's index is corrupt. :-P

I just checked one file; I wouldn't swear that it didn't appear previously. From that point on, all ads were (supposed to be) wrapped in that div

So I think I am still correct about my guess then.. :-)

Missed the opportunity to retract the vote before it was locked, so edited to be able to undo it.
That's about the only explanation I have that would make the edit kind of sensible.

Or, sometimes people just don't notice that the post they've been presented is actually an answer and not a question, and just edit it anyways.

Lix
ahh.. I get it now...
Although scanning through a post looking for a period to turn into a paragraph break seems a but overkill for a dummy edit to revert a vote...
but perhaps you're right...

I have to admit, I was very tempted to edit this at first: stackoverflow.com/review/low-quality-posts/1597261

Well, at the moment, there are two candidates for four positions, and one of them has a blank personal statement, so....

I noticed that. I figured you were trying to exploit bugs. :P

Huh? I'm Lord Torgamus. Amana is Neal.

Oh right. I don't know why I always confuse the two of you. I guess once you get past the Tim Post vs Tim Stone thing and the BoltClock vs Yi Jiang thing, your mind just looks for two others to confuse.

Hmmm apparently I cannot comment on my nomination.

You broke SO

8:15 PM
I just wanted to have a merit only nomination.... Now it seems they removed my nomination?

I am grievously, grievously offended. You're back on the "never to be forgiven" list.

@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA probably since it was empty. They tend to frown on abusing the election process.
In a huge way.

Are images allowed in nominations?

@jcolebrand I was not trying to abuse it. Ill put some text in a new nomination then..

@animuson they are frowned upon
Double check with @Shog9 or @MichaelMrozek

So a picture of Marty Huggins probably won't go over well?

If you are elected moderator I will probably leave the site.

Anonymous
But I do not expect that to happen.

So leave the site.
There is no reason to be an ass.

@JeremyBanks (Well, this is obviously hyperbole because Stack Overflow is professionally invaluable.)

If you get elected, you might be motivated to torment us with more of your terrible meta posts.

You do realize that you are quoting things from more than a year ago.
And that underage user was not me being the tormentor
he was trolling the js room and annoying us all

8:53 PM
Calling someone an ass when they post a critical comment on your nomination is probably not the best approach to proving your maturity level.

please delete your comment....
@jadarnel27 He is just bringing up old blood for no reason. I am not sure why.
That has nothing to do with the current nomination

Anonymous
Neal, I'll concede that the twelve-year-old may have behaved slightly less maturely than you did. But he's not running for moderator.

I will just do the mature thing and wait on responding to your comment....
No idea how to. You are bringing up old wounds for no reason
I really do not know what your problem is...

Anonymous
The problem is that the Stack Exchange staff/moderators decided to talk you out of quitting.

Anonymous
I am not sure I can ever forgive them for that.

8:56 PM
I am just trying to be as transparent as possible
tell all truths.
I am not saying "I am the greatest vote for me"
But to bring up old wounds is just childish...
whatever...

@JeremyBanks I rarely agree with Neal, but that's kinda harsh, man.

@PopularDemand Thank you...

Anonymous
...yeah, that may have been a bit much.

Anonymous
I'm worked up because I'm genuinely scared that eventually Neal will get enough reputation to have an actual shot at being a moderator, because there's usually a correlation between reputation and votes, and that would be a nightmare.

@JeremyBanks So run for moderator yourself... but big bashing is just unneeded...

Lix
9:02 PM
@animuson I believe not

@JeremyBanks But thanks so much to quelling any chance I had at being a moderator thanks to your flaming comment....

@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Let's pray it was enough.

9:17 PM
@jcolebrand They don't allow them anymore, I think. Somebody abused it in a previous election and they fixed it
Oh. Also that thing Lix said

Half the nominees so far are from this room; the population in here is going to drop even more

This room cannot bear the weight of another foundation wall giving way

> This account is temporarily suspended for rule violations. The suspension period ends on Nov 4 '26 at 21:15.
Is that a > 13 year suspension? Or am I misreading?

Also, in light of the election, please keep it civil and unleash your barbs at the town hall via veiled questions. It's a better platform for yuks
@DanielFischer Those are just epic

9:28 PM
@random Yea.... I have told that to @JeremyBanks .... I am not sure why I am being bashed from the get go.... I really do not see the point....
but whatever... let people do what they want to do...

You misread that entirely. You don't give away the attack now. You do it when they're trying to chase that reply button from two pages back as the storm of the town hall chat is flooding through

Oh, his meta suspension also changed from ending in March to Nov 4 '26, I guess he turned a few very wrong knobs.

@DanielFischer who is this?

Oh, that guy. He was totally just posting a bunch of rude and offensive comments on Meta.

Guess I was out that day...

It just happened, like minutes ago. I flagged one of them.
Ok, maybe it was closer to 30 minutes ago.

hmmmm Guess I was preoccupied with this election stuff...

@animuson "minutes ago" and "30 minutes ago" are not exactly far off, considering the latter is just a concrete measure of the former.

9:34 PM
Yes, but just saying "minutes ago" sounds very close to "moments ago"

Yeah, if you decide to ignore a significant portion of the quantity of minutes that are under an hour in length.
Also minutes are kinda long for a moment. Unless it's an awkward moment. Then those can last minutes.

A moment is about a minute and a half

Q: Live refresh on the Moderator Elections page

@webarto so don't ping a moderator. Just flag and move along.

No need to. Let the other users take him apart.
Not sure if comment flags from election flags actually show up in our queues

@MichaelMrozek who's fault is it you left?

OK, guys, sorry, I'm just irritated that noob throws a *bomb* on respected user.

"Please delete this negative comment on a nomination" probably isn't a good precedent
@jcolebrand Yours

@MichaelMrozek I have no doubt of that.
I even bought this special barbed stick to use but then you were gone
I was super sad

@Neal You thought my criticism was so unfounded that it deserved to be deleted?

I'm sorry Neal, but you're just confirming the behavior that's being discussed for you not becoming a mod with activities like that.

That doesn't sound very even handed or civil to sic dogs

Oh, actually... maybe nevermind. I already forgot that I made a pointless comment before my longer one, and deleted it myself. >_>" If he's talking about that then that's more justified.

For starters, it's "would you please flag this" not "can you flag this".

@webarto Questioning nominations is exactly why there are comments on the nominations.

Hrm, the statistics page keeps freezing on "Loading user tag information" for me :(

Yeah, it kinda stopped working right after the election started.

I think userId = +post.find('.user-details a').attr('href').split('/')[2]; is supposed to be userId = +post.find('.user-details a').attr('href').split('/')[4];, but that also seems like an impressively fragile way to do things

I can fix it in code, but I have to figure out who to bug to deploy the changes.

Bug everyone

10:58 PM
bugs @Shog9 to bug someone else.
The delegated bug is the most effective bug.

what's the issue?

Well, Rebecca used to deploy changes to the election statistics site for me, but obviously she doesn't now.

hmm

Oh, the link on the election page probably used to be relative. I was wondering how this ever could've worked

So I don't know who's stuck with dealing with me now. :P

11:00 PM
Now that it's an official tool you guys should consider not scraping the rendered page to do this stuff

I don't think there's any other way to get at the information

The place stackoverflow.com/election gets it from?

Actually mostly everything about the site is a hack.
I don't think we'll get direct database access. :P

You should totally ditch that dirty hack and use Perl.

Ya, that'd be too convenient and then Tim would never have bugs to fix with which to garner Meta reps.

11:01 PM
This wouldn't have happened if you were using Perl

@mootinator We already dropped that and used node.js

There's the problem.

Hmm, unfortunately the newest code uses my hacky API harness...so I'm a bit wary of making changes on top of that without knowing it won't explode...

@TimStone where are the changes?

I haven't made them yet because I just found out there was a problem.
But they live on Google Code, sec.

11:03 PM
ok. Well, let me know; I guess Geoff'll be the one to do it

Alright, I'm about to head home so I'll take care of things there and give you a ping afterward.
