Test tomorrow. First time making iced coffee at home.
Studyin' time!

I always just took my 1st year psych professor's advice for exams.
Recall is better when the brain is in the same state.
So, no new habits for cramming ;)
Course I was never one to need to study anyway :P

If all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops. Oh what a rain that would be.

All vegetation would shrivel up due to lack of water. There would be no rice. The employees in the Foxconn factories in China where they make iPads would starve to death.

No iPads. What a rain indeed.
Heh. Recall.
@moot I usually don't study either. Extreme circumstances call for extreme measures.

3:28 AM
@Moshe A world without iPads. Oh the horrors of a return to the dark ages of 2009.

@TimStone htaccess question for ya:

Q: Edit my .htaccess to fix permalinks?

MosheI messed around with my .htaccess file and now some of my permalinks are broken. My wordpress blog is at http://mosheberman.com/wordpress It can also be accessed by http::/blog.mosheberman.com. If you try to access it via the /wordpress URL, it shows a 404 page with my blog's template. Before ...

@Moshe ::/ -> ://

@awoodland Thanks, fixed.

@Moshe Congrats!
By the way, their link to your "official press release" on your blog is broken mosheberman.com/wordpress/2012/02/15/introducing-ibrooklyn

11:46 AM
Hi @TimStone! If you have time, could you maybe take an export look at this? :-)

@Szabolcs Isn't this the fourth time you've come here about the prettify bug?
@Szabolcs Oh, it's a bug not the actual request
Carry on then :)

1 hour later…
12:54 PM
@Moshe They got your blog link wrong... It should be blog.mosheberman.com/introducing-ibrooklyn
@Manishearth real one is here: blog.mosheberman.com/introducing-ibrooklyn

1:14 PM
@Szabolcs Sure. I'll take a look after I grab some coffee.

1:30 PM
@aman @man I know, I messages the author about that. I broke my per link structure. If anyone wants to look at my question on wp.se I'd appreciate it.

Haha, now that's how you do a bug report =)

Q: Something's wrong with the inbox message escaping

Ben BrockaHere's a sample of my StackExchange Inbox this morning: The apostrophe ' is being improperly/unnecessarily escaped to ' in the inbox. All other characters seem to be coming through fine. No the title isn't bugged I was just making a joke

1:46 PM
@DanielFischer Are you around?
Do you know the binomial theorem?

@Moshe I am sort of around, and I know several versions of the binomial theorem.

@DanielFischer Ah, well, I have a test later. Luckily I'm more aware of the material than last time. Struggling to study though. Can't find problems to do. Discussing on where though: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/36/mathematics

@Moshe I haven't an account on Mathematics, and I'd rather not sign up there, that'd suck up way too much of my time.

@DanielFischer Ok, heh.

 Moshe is Studying

I'm studying for a math exam, need some help.

Q: Unable to see my answer (To administrator)

Basiti just posted a question using jsf 2.0 tag and Someone(BalusC) answered me. But now when i open my question, there is no answer. Where did my answer go ? Here is the link How to book mark pages in JSF 2.0 Thanks

I don't quite see the point of migrating that one...
well that was exciting. Apparently 4 other people wanted to migrate it and then it got bounced straight back

Lix
@awo - Ironically the answers he got to that were also removed :P

2:44 PM
yeah, not exactly a great experience all around

Lix
I didn't know that a too localized close removes the answers...
and I don't really understand the relation to "chameleon questions”

before the answer was deleted it got two follow questions in comments and then an edit with a comment in <!-- --> that strongly implied that was the case

Lix
damn my puny SO rep :(

@awoodland Hmm, I can't tell if that should be the expected behaviour or not.

@TimStone it's all as designed I think

2:47 PM
I mean, in a general sense it is, because it's a migration rejection, but I'm not sure if it makes as much sense in the context of migrations to Meta.

but I'm not sold on the design
maybe meta rejections ought to be special
but this is already several layers deep in special cases of migrations and close votes

Aye, and it's an extreme edge case. I'm also not sure if it'd happen between normal sites and their per-site metas.

you mean they might count differently for migration rejection anyway since they're not really separate sites?

It's possible, I don't really know one way or the other.

Lix
@man - You devil you :P

@Lix Technically half a devil. Full devil privileges at 666,666

I don't have enough score to vote on them apparently

4:07 PM
I want a badge for getting lots of "nice question/answer" badges :D

@Manishearth Bad idea, Jon Skeet would cause an infinite loop.

@Manishearth I think that's called "Flair" =)
That made a lot of sense in my head.

@jad :p
@Daniel aah: So we have a "nice badges!" and a "nice meta-badges!" and a "nice metameta badges" and then SO implodes

That's why I hate recursion: implosion.

4:20 PM
recursion is why I hate recursion
(sorry, too obvious to resist)

Well played.

Lix
ahhhh... back home...
and by home I mean my house, not the tavern... But I can see how that might be confusing...

@Lix Confusing because you live in a tavern?

Lix
@jad - you could look at it that way... although I was referring to The Tavern
hehehe

4:40 PM
@Lix Well isn't that convenient =)

Nice. I've been so freakin' busy I haven't really been monitoring the incoming questions on Meta.

Q: How do I help senior team members improve?

Sixty4BitI have a pretty good team. We are all friends and get along well. When a problem does occur it is usually patched up rather quickly. However, one of the senior members of the team has become a little reluctant to suggestions for improvement. And in an angered moment lashed out with "It always has...

Came across this post through the clean-up... its old but cas♦ has already reviewed it....
should I still flag it?
I'm pretty sure it should be closed....

Has three CVs as off topic. Maybe wait a bit more.

Lix
Mine was the 3rd...

6:11 PM
I think mine was No. 1.

6:52 PM
Can someone whose question was closed still edit the question?

Lix
@sza - yep... that's the point. Question asked ->Question gets closed -> Question is improved by OP -> Question gets re-opened...
In a utopian world that is :P

@Lix Just wanted to make absolutely sure. Is that the case for all closure reasons or only for some? I guess it should work for "not a real question" and for "too localized"

Lix
Well I recently learned that when a question gets closed as "too localized", the answers get removed as well... So I'm not 100% sure if there are special cases...
oh...sorry... thats answers...

@Szabolcs As long as it's neither locked nor deleted, it can be edited.
(and deleted stuff can also be edited, at least self-deleted answers can)

Lix
@dan - even mod deleted answers can be edited and voted on...

7:05 PM
@Lix I never tried, so I don't have first-hand experience.
(editing a mod-deleted answer, that is)

Lix
@dan - yep... I can still edit my deleted answers.. like here - meta.stackoverflow.com/a/121534/172936
oh... <10K on meta... sorry.. :P
I was used to you commenting on deleted content and <10K issues :P

Only on SO

@Lix What do you mean by "voted on" there?

Vote to undelete, I presume.

Lix

7:08 PM
Oh. You used to not be able to vote to undelete mod-deleted posts (I thought); but I think that changed after the Crazed-and-Enraged-Deletion-Fest incident.

Lix
That was on this -

Q: Now that Jeff Atwood is moving on, who will be "in charge"?

razlebeNow that Jeff Atwood is moving on (see Joel's blog, and Jeff's own), who will be succeeding him as the ultimate authority over feature requests, change requests, cross-site policy, and the like? EDIT: To be perfectly clear, I'm aiming this question at the StackExchange management who will be (p...

@jad - "Crazed-and-Enraged-Deletion-Fest incident"?

@Lix The chaos that occurred on Meta back in March when the reputation system changed, and everyone went batshit about losing rep?

Lix
ohh... riiiiight.... yes yes... I remember that :P
Mine was self inflicted :P hahaha

Q: showDialog deprecated. What's the alternative?

DenisIs there something else that should be called? showDialog(TIME_DIALOG_ID); It's in this tutorial http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-timepicker.html but says deprecated in esclipe.

Don't have to be a smartass about it. — Denis Apr 23 at 17:24

your whale was squashed by my superior FHRC skills :P

It took me a couple of read-thoughs to realize you meant "wail" ;-)
Unless you were implying that my hyphen-underscore-hyphen poker face was a large aquatic mammal. In which case, I don't get it.

@jadarnel27 Political climate?
@jadarnel27 Totally picked up Foundation and Foundation's Edge at a library book sale for 50 cents each & thought of you

@LynnCrumbling Some odd (and controversial) amendment to our state constitution being voted on today.
@LynnCrumbling Haha, awesome =)

Local NPR affiliate was doing a fund drive all last week, and didn't get to listen this morning... do tell.
Oh...
cnn has filled me in... the gay marriage ban thing?

7:58 PM
@LynnCrumbling Yeah. That thing.

US politics baffles me sometimes

They baffle us, too.
But generally, the rule is that the people with the money get to make the rules.
Indirectly, of course.

@awoodland Yeah. I really try to leave it alone most of the time.
People seem to lose track of the fact that there are human beings on the other end of this network connection we type things into.
I have seen and heard people that I really respect(ed) say horrible things to each other, just because of how the other person is voting on this bill.
/rant. Sorry guys. I'm done with that.

@jadarnel27 That's sad

Sho' is. Sho' is.

8:12 PM
haha

But this, is hilarious:

Where in NC are you?
duh.
RTFP
Had a layover there once, on my way to Greensboro

@LynnCrumbling Haha, well done.
Not a terrible airport we have here. Not the best, but not terrible.

I considered it satisfactory :)

8:28 PM
@jadarnel27 I find your lack of faith disturbing.

8:38 PM
@LynnCrumbling You can't force choke what you can't see.

You guys should fix this problem.. meta.dba.stackexchange.com/q/645/2639
I brought it to Jeff's attention and he just started hitting on me.
It was kind of creepy.
@TheEvanCarroll you are a national treasure.
I think it was a little too much of a compliment -- it was a clear unprofessional advance.
Power won't buy my love though. I love the people too much; and, I'm not gay.

Irony (from the Ancient Greek ', meaning dissimulation or feigned ignorance) is a rhetorical device, literary technique, or situation in which there is a sharp incongruity or discordance that goes beyond the simple and evident intention of words or actions. There is presently no accepted method for textually indicating irony, though an irony (punctuation) mark has been proposed. Ironic statements (verbal irony) are statements that imply a meaning in opposition to their literal meaning. A situation is often said to be ironic (situational irony) if the actions taken have an effect exac...

I understand Irony dude. I've read most of Wikipedia. Or, a lot of it anyway.

Ooh, can we expect the @EvanCarroll comedy hour every Tuesday at 5 in the Tavern now?
