1:10 AM
@jcole I had a debate in class today.
We were discussing liberal arts and the subjects it encompasses. The professor asked us to divide into groups and gave the following scenario:
Imagine a natural disaster and there was a raft leaving for safety and there was room for one "entity" on the raft. Defend your branch of liberal arts and explain why you should be on that raft instead of the others.
I was in a group of four called "math".
I am pretty sure we dominated. I find out next Wednesday.

1:52 AM
Bah. Math is just a branch of Philosophy ;P

@mootinator I don't remember now, but I had some pretty awesome argument there. One of the judges told me he thinks I was the best. \O/ The other two remain to be seen.
</shamelessbrag>

2:53 AM
Okay, discussion time, who's home, er, here?
I was discussing social networking with my English Instructor today. I stated something to the effect of this: "Humans have an emotional need to socialize. However, it's the same object called emotion that causes the need for privacy. Social networks seem to discard the human need for privacy while savoring the social aspect." Now I'm tasked with finding articles that attack and defend my position. Any references?

hahahahahaha

@jcolebrand Huh?

now grasshopper you must learn the secrets of the college
like keeping your mouth shut ;)

I know, I know.

So .. do you know about Maslows Heirarchy (I suck at spelling certain words)

2:56 AM
No, never heard of it.

That's a place to start
[[Image:Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.svg|thumb|right|300px|An interpretation of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, represented as a pyramid with the more basic needs at the bottom.]] Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a theory in psychology, proposed by Abraham Maslow in his 1943 paper A Theory of Human Motivation. Maslow subsequently extended the idea to include his observations of humans' innate curiosity. His theories parallel many other theories of human developmental psychology, all of which focus on describing the stages of growth in humans. Maslow studied what he called exemplary people such ...

Right, I don't think he wanted me to write the paper, but to find articles discussing it. I suppose I could write it if he wanted me to. I enjoy writing, but I don't have time.
I'm trying to hack out the last few hours of a project now, just thought I'd drop that little shootout online and see if anyone had any info for me to get to.

no no no
I said that was a place to start learning

Ah, got it.
Looks like an interesting starting point. Thanks!
Oh, and: I want DevDays or some sort of StackExchange event at my Uni!

lol
so START ONE
I advise you to wait a little longer tho and get more plugged in
did I not share that survey link with you?
are you on skype right now?
@Moshe ...

3:11 AM
I am on Skype, sec.

Aaaaaaaargh.

aaaaayyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I keep talking to cleverbot.com
Make me stop.

@mootinator you know that's really a 14 year old girl, right?

@jcolebrand No, it's me.

3:21 AM
Cleverbot
is a girl
who is 14 years old
I can prove it

No you can't.

Aye, go talk to it and eventually Bieber will come up

Well yeah.
It's just a collection of stupid things people have said to it.

Yep
just like a 14 yo girl
;)

Oh snap.

3:25 AM
And if anyone in here is a 14yo girl, they should contest me on this

BTW.
It says it's infinity years old, a 14 year old would never think of that response.

You're right, that sounds like something a 6 year old would say
damnit kevin

lol
Ah finally.
20 minutes later... "Cleverbot: Can you sing justin bieber song for me ?"

lmao

4:05 AM
:\/
It is also highly trained in Monty Python quotes, unsurprisingly.

4 hours later…
8:11 AM

chuckle yes.

8:48 AM

4 hours later…
12:45 PM
What does momentarily mean?
momentarily

@genesisφ shortly, in a second, in a moment.
"I will do that momentarily"
(or, for a moment)

So I've seen comment before it was posted, again?

haha, where's that?

momentarily

@genesisφ uh...I'm going to say that's a bug of the "informal" time thing (i.e. "just a moment ago").

Still worth opening a M.SO post though.

1 hour later…
2:06 PM
Because, you know, unicode is cool

3:06 PM
Cleverbot starts spitting out random garbage. I keep asking it "Do you prefer Android or iPhone?"

Q: Is this rotating cube interface user-friendly?

Peter OlsonI'm working on a prototype for an innovative form interface, where different parts of the form are shown on different sides of a cube. The cube rotates, and the user can fill it out as the cube spins. Here is a working example. To me, it seems like a pretty robust solution to our problem (i.e., ...

@YiJiangs独角兽 Uhhh... that form makes me dizzy.

Now where in world did it get featured on to get it 7k views?

@Moshe Maybe somebody is teaching Cleverbot the old trick of answewring 'yes' to 'or' questions

3:34 PM
@YiJiangs独角兽 Why is that an old trick?
It's immature. The dang robot is an infant.
Of course, I just blew my chances at working for cleverbot's owning entity.
They would not be too please to know that insulted their bot.

3 hours later…
6:09 PM
I need a different hobby.

6:38 PM

@TimStone Thanks.

11:16 PM
Ooo, I finally got a unit test that's been broken for 6 months to work.

@GeoffDalgas Err, wha?

@mootinator I'm in school and I don't have time for nonsense? I have other people, whose identities I can verify, asking for apps?

Meh.

Then why did you ask us? :P

@TimStone I see a lot of ranking on recruiters, and I was just wondering if it's really not worth the phone call.

11:31 PM
@TimStone YOU DIDN'T SEE A THING

I did, I did, I seen it with my own two eyes!

twas just a quick test, nothing more. (:

Ah. :)
