12:00 AM
but ssl is a "server" thing
what are you looking to achieve?
I think I am gonna put my old orange av back for right now, I need a better av tho

2 hours later…
2:23 AM
ok, what major services would I likely have an account on, if I've been on the web for 14 years now and I probably have done all the geekery ones? Here's the list I have atm:
reddit
slashdot
twitter
facebook
gmail
youtube
yahoo (but who cares about yahoo anymore?)
windows live (by the same token as above)
github
sourceforge
code.google
codeplex
photobucket
imgur
digg

Hacker news? Isn't very big but it is pretty popular I believe

just go through your email and look for confirmation emails

yeah, but I've not signed up there, I don't think

but really, if it isn't something you're using now, why does it matter?

@RebeccaChernoff I switched to gmail sometime through there
@RebeccaChernoff so I can cancel them
because, obviously, I'm not using them

2:28 AM
meh, why does it matter

consistency!
idk, I just feel like doing so

3:02 AM
I'm trying to buy a computer for the first time in ages; I don't know what any of this stuff is
"PCI Express 2.0"? In my day we got ISA slots and liked it

good morning
i am chatting from my ipod touch

@MichaelMrozek a ridiculously fast PCI connection. Also, the channels are in serial, so you get x1, x2 (which is two channels instead of one), x4 (four channels), etc. Sometimes you have two x8's which share 1/2 of an x16, so you can either use the x16 or the two x8's

m not getting alerts like get on pc

at least, that's my understanding of how that x16 and 2x8's works

@MichaelMrozek You'll want the one with the plush leather interior.

3:05 AM
I suggest the one that comes with the fubbly interpreter
@ManjotSingh that is to be expected.

@TimStone I'm already sorting the newegg results by number of cupholders

@tim do u have idea?

I doubt the mobile interface has alerts

I'm curious why the android devs came here instead of staying on chat.SO like good lil munchkins
@MichaelMrozek it does, but in a different place. They show up green.

i am chatting from safari of ipod touch

3:06 AM
This room isn't well suited to discussions of android development ;)

Awe, but it's fun to come in here;-)

Aye, that it is
and if everyone plays nice then I welcome them all ;)

@jcolebrand still m not getting any alerts

Yeah, I don't think you get any audible alert, since mobile Safari isn't cool enough to have native sound playback support, nor does it have Flash as a fallback for jplayer.
@MichaelMrozek You're on the right track then.

@TimStone this is true

3:08 AM
n m also not getting auto complete of name tim

somebody at me

like as in mac i get

the autocomplete doesn't work in the iOS chat
@jcolebrand can I at myself and it show on iOS?

n what about alerts n sound alerts?

I cannot at myself and it alert me
@ManjotSingh sound is done through flash. You do the math.

3:10 AM
still i dint get let m try @manjotsingh

@ManjotSingh at me instead

I do wish that the mobile chat allowed for explicit replies though.

twould be nice
@TimStone reply to me, por favor
I am trying to capture a screenshot

@jcolebrand Ta.

3:11 AM
now can you at me from a different room?
maybe in tunes or something?
I want to demonstrate to @ManjotSingh how it does notify you

i think there should be an app of SO for iOS as fb

thanks @TimStone that gave me both
one moment while I upload to imgur

@ManjotSingh whats that?

3:14 AM
m talking application

the @lerts are in green, the @lerts in other rooms are on the green menu down below

@TimStone Is SOStacked better than Six To Eight?

like as i am chatting from safari of ipod touch

@ManjotSingh now do you see?

@RebeccaChernoff Iunno, I just noticed that it popped up to the top of the list on StackApps, I actually haven't used either :)

3:15 AM
m too getting same

Moshe was extolling it's virtues time and again last night and today
@ManjotSingh I don't understand what you are saying man. take a few more moments to say it plainly.

but dint sound alerts

THERE IS NO SOUND ON THE IOS MOBILE SAFARI CHAT FOR SEI CHAT
I don't know how much more plainly that can be said @ManjotSingh
It's done in flash

Mobile Safari doesn't do Flash

3:16 AM
ok

We have said it now about 400000000 times

i got iy
lol

please stop asking why you are not getting the full desktop client experience using a mobile browser, and please take the time to make your message more clear

i got it

now, I'm gonna go walk my dog. bbl

3:17 AM
sure
bbr
brb
is back again

Hmm, I suppose I should update some userscript stuff.

whats that?

Oh good lord, you're gonna have him convinced he can get all that working on iOS soon too ... also, why am I not walking my dog? damn you reddit, damn you

@jcolebrand Where's Moshe? ;)

3:30 AM
@TimStone lol

what happen?
m ios developer

Hmm wait. m is both "me" and "I'm a(n)"? Confusing.

i am an ios developer
on which technology you work?

I work with a lot of technologies, but I'm primarily a Java web developer.
@RebeccaChernoff Would you mind unlocking the Sandbox, pretty please?

i started with iphone and ipod touch
then started with ipad
a month befor i started android
and about to start blackberry development

3:41 AM
I'm fiddling with WP7.

but there is one issue with blackberry development

Java sucks?

@mootinator :O

they wont provide bb emulator in mac

@TimStone :/ I wouldn't know, actually. I haven't used it since 2005.

3:43 AM
i am begginer in java dont know much about it

@ManjotSingh That's the problem I have with iOS. Hmmmm.

@mootinator Admittedly, C# is a much stronger language.

what is the issue?

Nothing, really. It has some weird quirks, but my issues with Java come from when the JVM was incredibly slow and buggy compared to just about everything else on the planet.

oh
do u have any idea about blackberry
i mean i am a player of mac
blackberry and apple are not good friend rather

3:48 AM
@TimStone What do I have to do with this?

rim launched bb plugins for mac

@ManjotSingh Yes, they have beta eclipse plugins now.

@Moshe Userscripts on iOS

@TimStone I haven't forgotten it.
sigh

but they didnt provide emulator to test an app

3:50 AM
@ManjotSingh True.

for that i need to have real device
of higher version

From what I understand, RIM doesn't say on their website how much they charge for BB App World submissions, but I saw in a book on BB development last week...

is there any solution for bb emulator on mac

It makes Apple look good. $200 for up to 10 apps per year.
@ManjotSingh not that I know of.
Really RIM? $200 for up to 10 apps?

have you heard about phonegap

3:51 AM
Heard the name.

people can make mobile app using phonegap

@ManjotSingh ok, so?
@jcolebrand - Nice new username, I see.

using html,css,javascript

@ManjotSingh There's also Appcelerator Titanium.

i was confused

3:53 AM
@ManjotSingh Why?

phonegap = :)

@Moshe I know, I wasn't actually implying anything in particular about it.

how it supports all mobile device?

Being HTML based.

@TimStone No worries.

3:55 AM
means all devices have different uicontrols
ios,android,blackberry,bada etc

@ManjotSingh - They write API wrappers that make it possible for them to compile your HTML into native code, so to speak.

all are totally different

Well, yes, but there are common denominators.

so is it legal then

Some of the differences are purely visual. Conceptually, a drop down list is the same, the difference is in presentation.

3:56 AM
Yes.

Yes.

then there would be no need mobile developers

@ManjotSingh - Technically, that is correct, but like you said, there are platform differences. It's not always possible to factor out the differences and so mobile developers have an edge.

oh thank god

I think most intranet/corporate stuff could easily be done with something like phonegap though.

3:59 AM
i get afraid of
people are making software using phonegap
anyone has an idea of macbook?
i want change the color of apple logo light
is it possible to change?
i have searched on internet but didnt get relevant information

@Moshe aye

Anyone know off the top of their head whether an <input type="hidden"> with no value attribute gets submitted?

is it inside the form? <-- this is the answer.

Yes.
Ha. Darn.

I'll tell you a trick of the web 1.0 days shall I?

4:09 AM
Oky.

@jcolebrand Why did things get all flash-backy all of a sudden?

Use a hidden checkbox?

Make a <form><input type=hidden id=something_special>value</input> ... shopping cart or somesuch ... </form> and then on the server they knew what your shopping cart ID or whatever was.
but it was very snoopable
@TimStone it's the special effects I wrote in jQuery for this room ;)
They happen IRL, I'm using a jQuery plugin for that
it's jQuery.plugins.IRL.extend(@TimStone)

Ah, the jQuery Reality Interface program.

Indeed

4:11 AM
@jcolebrand I'm not worried about snooping, I'm trying to figure out a nice way to convert my query string for sorting to something ASP.NET MVC will be able to keep track of the state of.

@TimStone I can get it to do all that, but I can't seem to get it to add 2 + 3
@mootinator yeah, asp.net webforms does that already
it's called viewstate ;)

Maths is below jQuery.

@jcolebrand vomit

@mootinator c'est la vie
there are only two ways to have the server know what happens on the client:
sending data from the client on every postback
and magic

I haven't even looked at any documentation about that sort of thing.

4:13 AM
I firmly suggest using magic, but when it isn't available, have the client send the data back to the server

I'm being old school here.
And using the query string for querying.
gasp

the horrors!

How un SEO.

are you writing a restful app?
I am

Not entirely.

4:16 AM
Hooray, crab pretzel.

ehwut?
"This is not a form of brainwashing"

ahhhh

nom

nods

4:21 AM
@ManjotSingh The best you can do, as far as I know, is to put a sticker over it.
makes new project list on whiteboard, now that several are done. Includes new ones, proposals, and the ones that have been procrastinated for this long.

@ManjotSingh I suggest disassembling the computer, replacing the LED backlight with a colored one, and reassembling the computer. However, since that will forever alter the color of your computer screen, rendering it nearly useless, that may be less than optimal. You could try thinking about it and being creative ...
@Moshe if they don't pertain to being done with the projects, stop doing them, strike them off the list, and finish the unfinished ones

@jcolebrand Well, seems like the younger siblings have trashed my whiteboard markers, although if the last one I have here works, I may have a shot.
works

try a notepad

@jcolebrand That works too.

@jcolebrand We, the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, religion or language, to build a democracy society, based on justice and equality so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.

4:27 AM
I was overthinking my sorting problem, apparently.

@TimStone I got about halfway through when I got disgusted with myself and stopped, heh.

A: Close as exact duplicate doesn't work on mobile Safari

Jeff AtwoodIt does in fact work, so long as you register a "keypress" in the close input box. That is, if you paste, that's not a keypress. So enter a space at the end of the URL after pasting (this won't harm anything) and everything should work as you expect. I was indeed able to close this question as...

Hahah @ the delay between the test close and the reopen :P

good watching
@YiJiang I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
but that doesn't mean much

is back
@moshe and @jcolebrand thanx

I never knew!!!!!!
PS: turn off the sound (it's horrid)

i want an software solution
not a hardware one

4:41 AM
@ManjotSingh I want a software solution to make me lunch as well. I'll have a turkey on rye. It aint' gonna happen.
You don't understand the engineering of the problem, so you can't understand our solution.

Turkey? Pastrami, foo'.

Q: Flashing Question mark in macbook pro

NemoWhen starting my MacBook, I'm getting flashing '?' mark. I had Win 7 also on it. Now I can see only Windows partition if I hold botton 'C' at start up. I cant reset PRAM also by holding command+option + P + R . I'm not worried about data. I need to do clean installation.

@ManjotSingh There's no software solution. Try this.

now what does it mean moshe@

@jcolebrand Did I mention that we say this every single school day since kindergarden? Oh, and the national anthem too.

@YiJiang we say our pledge every day too here
we don't do the anthem tho

@ManjotSingh What does what mean?

4:53 AM

No clue.

@jcolebrand I'm also confused.
Here's an interesting question:

Q: Stream audio from iOS

David BeckHow would I go about streaming audio FROM an iOS device to another device like a Mac or another iOS device? I can only find solutions like AirPlay on Google and nothing about how to do it in your own app. I would assume you would have to go through a server of some kind.

it was a fun

4:59 AM
@ManjotSingh if you say so. We have no idea what happened.

i"ll go for sticker

\O/ I win!
:-)

i was just watching video clips
