Seriously? I go and tend to business and slide to a meeting for 90 minutes and you guys are waiting on me? How sweet

1 hour later…

Grrr...gotta restart Firefox. @TimStone I may have spoken too soon. FF4 does seem last a little longer, but it still need to be restarted too often. =/

Ah, damn. Well, at least they seem to be making some level of progress, heh.

1:51 AM
Yeah, my boss installed it on his box, he's cringing now that he did that
is anybody else, by chance, getting 502 errors from youtube trying to look up specific channels?
and now ... Http/1.1 Service Unavailable

2:08 AM
@drachenstern I don't think 10k tools makes sense but I think the 3k tools does -- at some level. I get frustrated going to other sites and not having the 3k tools.

So make a new question and reference this question and ask away.
I have a feeling it's going to get the same answers.

2 hours later…
3:57 AM
Ich Sprache keine deutsch.

It shows

4:12 AM
mmmm....chocolate cake

@drachenstern lol. How so?
iOS (in)corrected me there.
@GeorgeMarian no! It's a lie.

I saw that
@Moshe not when it's chocolate you know

@Moshe LOL. No, it's rich and tasty.
I may just cut-up some more strawberries when I have a slice tomorrow.

Say, is doing unprogrammery things (playing basketball) while wearing a SO t-shirt considered heresy?
@drachenstern no I did not know. I have not played portal yet.

Neither have I ..
idk, I wear my SE T all the time, even as an undershirt under other shirts, etc

4:25 AM
I have been using it as PJs. It's insanely comfortable.
But I played basketball (yes, iOS, basketball is a word) today and I remembered after that I had a tee around - my so tee.
Angry Birds or Tiny Wings?

1 hour later…
5:32 AM

jjj
yaak
how can you eat that?!

Its baconz. OMG. its fucking delish

heeelp... @balpha or @Marc, my pro-forma script is bust on FFx :(
Is this bit of full.js new, or has firefox just slowed down? $("a[id^='comments-link-']").unbind("click"). Cos it looks like it's arriving after my script now :(

6:16 AM
@Benjol oh hi, long time no see :D

@Benjol no, that's not new -- but full.js comes in delayed (i.e. is loaded by JavaScript), so it will indeed come in later than your script
(and the whole "delayed" thing is pretty new; two weeks or so)
just wrap your stuff in StackExchange.ready() instead of $()

6:42 AM
@Reno Looked like raw fish cooked the wrong way
2

@balpha OK, thanks, I'll give it a go...
@Reno Yeah, I'm keeping a low profile. Came on today because I was desperate for @balpha's pearls of wisdom.

@Benjol Did SO really take so much of bandwidth?
If thats the case it wont be long before the IT guys start a man hunt for me

@Reno Don't think it's a question of bandwidth, it's a question of 'number of items in the list', and I suspect chat's polling kind of pushes me to the top

@balpha Hear, hear. StackExchange is the new jQuery.

just with more bacon & unicorns

6:54 AM
@balpha sorry for my stoopids, but what should I be wrapping, the hole gm script, or just the bit that's being nobbled by the unbind? and is it StackExchange.ready(function() { etc... ?

It is true: StackExchange is perfect, and does all things.
(Except polls. Oh wait, it does those too.)

@Benjol just replace line 25 with
StackExchange.ready(function () {
that should do it
from the unminified version of stub.js:
// this method guarantees:
// 1. all passed functions will be called in the order they are passed to StackExchange.ready
// 2. all passed functions will be called after the DOM is ready (i.e. no need to additionally wrap in $())
// 3. the full JS file (full-anon.js or full.js, depending on the user) has been loaded
StackExchange.ready = function (func) {
    StackExchange.initialized.done(func);
}

@balpha I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you're my $(hero) :)

ReferenceError: hero is not defined

However, I've come unstuck on the version numbering you warned me about. I can't go from 1.0.9 to 1.0.10, so my bug fix will roll me over to 1.1.00 :)

7:01 AM

Anyways, sorry I'm not here often, I miss the company, but hey, at least I'm not as dead as TheTXI :)
bye...

Seeya

@balpha Do you see the Gaming heart as the favicon for chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/35/the-bridge? Because I don't.

yes, I do

7:24 AM
@balpha Okay. I thought I forced a full reload, but it must have not helped.

Hi, what is the number of existing tags currently in SO, and is there any limits to that?
wow, almost 30k tags!

@Comptrol Why would there be a hard limit?

for recommendation system to give quicker results?
@badpssockpuppet

Not really...

hmm, I thought so

2 hours later…

Can someone defrost the Regulatory HQ room ?
I got an user who has been evading an account ban

could we also have a (SU) mod to nuke this guy?
@Reno I'd post the link here as well.

this is his fourth account

@Reno wow...asking the same qesution again...and again...

@tombull89 yeah ... also he is trying to get people email id's to bug them

@tombull89 are you turkish?

11:31 AM
anyway I think ban evasion is a good enough reason for an IP ban

@Reno Flag for mod attention, but be aware mods can't do IP bans themselves.
It's much easier for you to get his IP banned through the "no longer accepting questions from you" system

"mods can't do IP bans themselves." Duh, remember the last time you tried that on yourself...

A: The links posted under a question are split on two lines

Jeff AtwoodThis isn't a bug — you have the rollback ability on your question or post as the owner. We also added "protect" as an ability for 15k rep users. Therefore when protect and rollback appear, the menu wraps.

3:23 PM
@RegDwight yo what's up?
This has been raised here before even, in this very room.

3:41 PM
@RegDwight Ah, by design, then. Thank you for the update.
Mods must see wrapping like that all the time. Poor mods.

Do mods still get a protect link at 15k? I'm not sure; I guess they probably do

@MichaelMrozek Shouldn't they just have it always?

There's a dedicated menu that has all the mod actions (protect, lock, etc.)
I guess in theory they should just get the link and not have it in the mod menu, since it's not a mod action anymore. That never occurred to me

@drachenstern That's the very reason why I have posted it in this room, prefixed by a gray arrow. Now stop pinging me, you capitalist who doesn't want to destroy America. <shakes fist, yada yada>

4:07 PM
@RegDwight ah, ok then. I thought it was well established and that we didn't need to pursue it any further. I was confused. Anyways, ping ping. ttyl ;)

Wow, traffic's been picking up, albeit slowly.

not really. It's just a figment of your imagination

Have I ever mentioned how much I despise MS

wait wait, lemme guess, sharepoint? There's a SE site for that

Active Directory
they took a great concept (federated kerberos auth) and bastardized it into a "Great when it works, but good luck when it doesn't" solution

yeah, I have my hatred of that as well

5:58 PM
Almost done with another app. \O/
That's four waiting for/in review and a brand new one on the way.
Me iz on a roll!

Does anyone use eclipse? I have a question if you do:

just in case anyone here wants to join me in getting fired from their day job: chrome.angrybirds.com
you can thank @Ivo for that one

@Ninefingers - What is your username based on?

I am trying to rename a variable from foo to var.foo
and it is telling me that that it is not valid
(Changing the name by refactoring - just in case)
@drachenstern why are you doing this to me? :)

Because Ivo did it to me! :)

6:03 PM
@drachenstern - Actually, I'm on a trackpad and I find it difficult to play on here. Meh.
It runs in Safari too, btw.

@drachenstern bad ivo! bad!

sigh

@drachenstern I was happy with my almost gameless gsmarena.com/nokia_1661-2572.php

Is there an online version of Pokemon?

Q: How do you quote a passage that has used '[sic]' mistakenly?

MitchThe usage of '[sic]' is well defined for quoting a passage that you believe has an error in it: nearest to the mistake you place '[sic]' within the quotes. For example, suppose I write a letter from I to you. This last sentence of mine is counter to most norms of English writing (it's wrong), so ...

Q: “Privileges” link missing from reputation dropdown on per-site metas

Nyuszika7HAs we all know, reputation on per-site metas is identical to rep on the main site, except for MSO—which is special. This means privileges on metas are identical to ones on their main sites, so meta privileges redirects to main privileges, although the “privileges” link is missing from the reputat...

@Moshe A character from Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logen_Ninefingers
@Moshe That series is really good, so if you read fantasy, definitely read it.

I think I just found my next car!

> hi, the car is still in good condition,only that the morter(forgive my spelling) need replaced,i just dont have time to fix this,very good on gas and it has low kilometres. thanks
That one?
The one that needs the motor replaced, but gets good gas mileage?

I'm going to bet it doesn't burn any gas and still rolls down hills just fine ...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

@drachenstern But... Low mileage!

10:07 PM
I hear ya
not to sound too dumb, but it isn't still snowing up ya'll's way this time of year is it?

Also, it's evident from the ad that replacing the motor won't cost anything, it's just that he doesn't have the time.
@drachenstern Not normally.
We've had snow in late June before though.
As in the last two years.

Does anybody remember what I was doing last Tuesday? Yeah, me either.
Oh yeah, I was buying domain names and such

Wes
10:25 PM
Hi All
@GeorgeMarian did you start you blog?

@Wes Not yet.
I want to get an SSL cert sorted out first.

Wes
You would encrypt a blog?

I would certainly encrypt the admin portion.

Wes
Seems a little paranoid.

Appropriately paranoid, IMO. :)
That said, you do make a good point. I'm not accessing it over a wireless network ATM, nor would I likely ever access it over an unsecured wireless network.

Wes
10:31 PM
I know the password sent unencrypted is obviously bad. But how do you upload content? Via FTP for instance?

So, I should do it parallel and get the blog setup while I get the SSL cert sorted out.
@Wes You mean to my web host?

Wes
Yeah assuming your not self hosting

SSH, always SSH. (Well, SCP for file transfers.)

what blog platform are you considering?

WordPress

10:33 PM
any particular reason?

Well, one reason is that it'll work as better motivation to learn to code for it that way.

Wes
Oh you are going to code for wordpress then in the end? Thats what I was asking the other day when I said did you give it any more thought.

Cool
I should see if there is a node.js blog engine
I've decided to do most of my new webserver code in node.js to force myself to write better javascript
(( for the record, I can google that ya'll, I rather meant I should look for one that I'm happy with ))

@Wes Oh, I see. Yeah, I've already done some coding on a WP theme. (Some minor fixing and changes.)

Wes
The themes are pretty easy. I think WP isn't too bad a design really

10:38 PM
@drachenstern Yeah, I've been considering giving node.js a try for that same basic reason. It sounds like something that would keep my interest better than fighting with JavaScript in the browser.

wanna help me work on mine on your free time?
:p

What are you working on these days G?

I'm fighting with a real estate listing web service. An annoying XML-based back-end, wrapped in a thin veneer of SOAP. It's like an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, wrapped in a vest.

Wes
hahaha

Wes
11:14 PM
Just seen the posts about the suspensions. I didn't realise he was that young when he was participating here before. (Note I do realise I'm probably talking to myself)
