11:00 PM
to call attention to it every once in a while?

> You've earned the "Outspoken" badge. See your profile
did we establish that was up on SO yet?

@RebeccaChernoff Eh.
@drachenstern Well, I know now. :P

SO is still on 2011.2.22.3, while Meta is at .5.

@TimStone just the messenger looking at the check-ins here (:

Only 44 people have the badge on SO. stackoverflow.com/badges/998/outspoken

11:02 PM
I see we now have a silver chat badge!

I see

damn you slow fingers, damn you

I also see I arrived just in time to be relevant
That's a change for me

I don't even have the bronze one on SO. I can't keep four chats open at once.

11:03 PM
lol

@RebeccaChernoff Fair enough. :) I guess I just don't see it being important to draw attention to that link, or at least if it is important, flashing "new" (which hardly makes sense) is not a particularly effective way to go about it. But if it bothers me too much I'll write a Meta post and complain properly. :P

Although since there's a silver badge now, I'll obsess over it until I have it.

I have three chats open on SOIS, two skypes, and whatever else floats open during the day. On the SOIS I have about 15 rooms "pinned" via "favorite rooms" so that I might get pinged on any of those with notifications

everyone flag everything @mmyers says!

I even have it on Gaming, mwuahahah.

11:05 PM
@TheRenamedException No, no, I already have it here.
Stop it!

@drachenstern I wasn't starring anything

"Remove the stars against this post? OK / Cancel"

I agree. I was being facetious.
@mmyers I MUST REACH MODERATOR STATUS

Just messing. I removed them. (:

Is that a 10K thing? I assumed it was room owners or mods.

11:07 PM
See @RebeccaChernoff gets me in trouble again ;-)

@TheRenamedException that does not require 10k :p

I have to confess I did not suspect @Rebecca at all. Well played.
9

@mmyers I realized it was a mod thing
@mmyers now this I starred :-)

@mmyers It actually scares me a little. I mean, before we all clearly set out with a goal to make her as devious as we were, but now that she also has unlimited blue powers, that may prove to be more dangerous than anticipated.
yawns Man, it's been a long day.

Gotta keep y'all on your toes!

11:12 PM
Yes, on our toes and at a safe distance from our appliances.

I'm going to forgo reading the chat log and pretend the silver chat badge hasn't already been mentioned ad-nauseum.
SO COOL A THING
;)

Ah </dinner>

It's shiny!

It even alert(false) s sometimes!

Ok who knows off the top of their head which line in which file I need to check to make sure this particular bit of code is in the switch statement for the app?

11:13 PM
I require more badges to be created for things I've already done.

@mootinator that would be good yes?

Must scour odata for unusual feats.

Badges are like achievements.

Maybe we could get a badge for consecutive visits to chat? Or for posting more than 10k messages?
or for replying to more than 500 messages?

@drachenstern I'm not sure I've done that.

11:14 PM
But seriously, nobody knows what line of which file I need to look in? I guess I should grep it

Speaking of which, @drachenstern, how do I test an achievement that I can't earn because I'm not good enough?

Argh all my customers are starting to report this new, annoying issue with one of our modules
@Moshe what script of mine were you trying to use?

@drachenstern It would sure be annoying if a badge whore wanted it.

@TheRenamedException time for Josh to go write some code

I don't think they want to reward sheer quantity.

11:15 PM
@drachenstern Line 73 of the fifth file.

Ah-ha, line 61!

@TherenamedException the status script.

SO CLOSE

@TimStone grep found the first contextual usage I actually searched for on line 71 tho ;)
@mootinator lol, I see what you did there ;)
@Moshe lmao, it's called "dev mode" :p
for instance:

@mmyers I'm actually a little surprised that the silver badge showed up, since I doubt it'll actually draw people into chat...might need some other mechanism for that, heh.

11:16 PM
The Konami Code, known in Japan as the , is a cheat code that appears in many Konami video games, although the code also appears in some non-Konami games. The code was first used in the 1986 release of Gradius for the Nintendo Entertainment System but was popularized among North American players in the NES version of Contra, for which it was also dubbed the "30 Lives Code". While pausing the game or during the title screen, the player could press the following sequence of buttons on the game controller: Variations The original version of the cheat code was designed for the NES...

@TimStone, yea but it was the eighty fifth file, not the fifth.

@Moshe it's... kinda broken

@Moshe wrong :p

WARNING WARNING WARING WARNING the chat status userscript just nearly killed my laptop via overheating. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

@TimStone Only people who obsess over getting every silver badge. Which is why I'm now on chat.SO for like the first time ever.

11:17 PM
@TheRenamedException Just because it inexplicably maxes out your CPU doesn't mean it's broken..

Q: The best component for downloading files from Internet

MaxefficientlyWhat is the best component for downloading files from Internet?

@TimStone @mmyers like free copies of Code Complete 2 being given to chat users.

check SLaks comment :p

Or donated to third world programmers in your name.

@mootinator I'm down with that.

11:17 PM
I am too busy to fix it today @Moshe and @TimStone, but I will fix hopefully tomorrow

@TheRenamedException No pressure from me, I'm not going anywhere. :P
@mmyers Ah ha ;)

@TimStone it must be that I loop through $(#present-users li) every 0.5 sec
but that didn't cause issues when pasted into the console :-/

20 hours ago, by Tim Stone
@MichaelMrozek I feel a sudden urge to try and work "hotrillion" organically into a conversation now.
@TimStone I won on that one!! :D I worked it into one on the lounge already ;)

@TheRenamedException I can take a look at it later if you want, if you want some suggestions when you go to work on it again.

Last job I quit I sent the CEO of the company a book on management via Amazon.
5
I still wonder how that went over sometimes...

11:20 PM
@mootinator Seriously? That's great. :D
@drachenstern Hah, damn...I'm too slow. I should have used it in the teleconference today.

@Moshe did my WP link make sense to you?

@TimStone If changing the 0.5 sec to 1 or 1.5 sec doesn't change it, maybe I will need suggestions :-)

mmk

@TimStone I'm not sure how to pronounce it tho: ho-trillion like "I gots mys hos ands mys trillions" or more like hodrillin or ???

@TimStone No joke...

11:22 PM
@TherenamedException we seem to have a talent for nearly blowing up our comps with JavaScript.

@TheRenamedException wow, that's ... still intensive. I should look at said code too, might have some ideas on that ...

@mootinator I feel bad for the time that you were forced to endure being employed there, but that's also hilarious.

@drach yes.

@drachenstern This is a good question.

Define: mmk

11:23 PM
@Moshe see: ok

@drachenstern I must go, I need to call a client. But we will discuss later! :-)

@TheRenamedException yes yes, work first, play second

Oh, is that how it's supposed to work?

@TimStone I've been told it is, yes

now has a CaCert.org code signing certificate. It's almost more useful than self-signed and everything.

11:31 PM
hi. am I an only person for who SO laggs a lot?
first time i see such lags. from both Dallas and Moscow..

@abatishchev no.

...Probably not.

It comes and goes. What provider/network are you using when you see such lag?
Can you try a ping against the servers?

@drachenstern has no ping outside corp network :(
good idea definitely
maybe both admin groups has maintance currently? just wondering
thanks anyway!

well in the future you might want to remember: downforeveryoneorjustme.com/stackoverflow.com
WAIT A SECOND :(
> It's not just you! stackoverflow.com looks down from here.
but that aint right

11:39 PM
Question:
Real user or Jon Skeet trying to prove a point?
Oh wait c++, that screws that theory up.

Q: Downforeveryoneorjustme.com reports stackoverflow as down ... what's up with that?

drachensternhttp://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/www.stackoverflow.com It's not just you! http://www.stackoverflow.com looks down from here. but clicking the link takes me through to the page just fine.

Actually, what is going on there, the answers seem to have excessive votes.

@mootinator where? For "erik"?

Yeah...
This looks very localized:
17
A: What's wrong with this C++ program ?

Erik#include <string> instead of #include <string.h> string.h is the C string header, accessible in C++ as <cstring> <string> is the C++ header that defines std::string

I mean the question is...

only +1 over my list of scores, pretty much. Or are you saying he can't be a better answerer than me in his topic?

11:45 PM
No, I mean over 9 days getting 2500 point....
And the answer with the most upvotes doesn't look like a question which would get a lot of views normally.

unless he got awarded bounties he couldn't get 2500 rep in 9 days

member for: 9 days
How can you tell when someone is awarded a bounty from their page?

It would show up in the rep graph.

@drachenstern great link

it should show up on their activity as well
@mmyers you gonna look into this one? 9 days, 2500 rep, no bounties?
is that right? Can that happen?

11:49 PM
Could be a lot of accepted answers...

No voting irregularities. 2500 rep / 143 answers isn't that much per answer.

Fascinating.

Like we always say: it's not that hard to get points if you really want to.

It's a pretty impressive number of answers for 9 days. I wish I could figure out how many answers/rep I had at 9 days

2500 / 9 > 200 rep cap per day
that's not POSSIBLE according to the rules

11:50 PM
Average of 285 rep/day, which means he averages 6 accepted answers.

I wasn't trying to imply any wrongdoing, it just baffles me what sorts of things get a lot of upvotes :)

I didn't think accepted+upvotes could count past 200

Wow. I just got back from....

@drachenstern Accepts and bounties are immune to the rep cap

Opera Mini for iOS.
It makes mobile chat unusable.

11:52 PM
@waiwai933 I didn't think accepts were immune

Wow. It was surreal.

I count 43 accepted answers, which account for 645 rep.

@drachenstern Consult the FAQ if you don't trust me, then.

Plus 9 days of caps makes 2445.

Like being in Dumbledores memories. See everything but not be able to be heard.

11:53 PM
Accepts are immune; that's the main way to get past it

@waiwai933 I didn't suggest a lack of trust, I suggested a faulty memory module on this end.

What I observed could also be a symptom of people upvoting the top answer in order to give a bonus for another question.

Q: Is Asking A Question On StackExchange Like Squeezing Blood Out Of A Stone?

Mods..introduce a feature so you can easily move this question to meta instead of closing. Makes stackexchange seem extremely disjointed and hard to use.
