9:00 PM
you can show me Michael Myers and Michael Mrozek all you want. How does that affect whether I say Michael?

The autocomplete is so easy to use... sigh :P

I know, and I use it, I'm just saying. (;

@MichaelMyers 3. Delete Michael Mrozek's profile; 4. Edit Michael Mrozek.
I suppose for completeness I should include 5. Delete Michael Mrozek, but that seems too extreme, even for him.

When I started here at work, they asked me if I preferred "Mike" or "Michael", since they already had a Mike. I told them "Michael". So they called me Mike anyway. But that led to some confusion, so now I'm "Myers" to most of them.
@PopularDemand #4 looks a lot like #2.
Oh wait, I got it.

"Remember - the private beta is now open but the public beta will open on Monday, Nov 15: US Pacific-11am; US Eastern-2pm; UTC-7pm <-- anyone see anything wrong with those times?

9:09 PM
No?

@JoePhilllips Also no; did you forget to account for the daylight savings change?

dohboy!

I have a feeling that might catch me for another week or two

By the way, I have a philosophical question relating to DST changes.

9:11 PM
let's get philosophical....philosophical

What happens to people who were born within an hour of midnight before the new rules? Do they have to change birthdays?

I would imagine they go by the date that is on their certificate disregarding the time

Like, say someone was born at 11:30 PM on October 30th, 2000, under the old rules. Now with the new rules, exactly 10 years from that time is 12:30 AM on October 31st, 2010.

Technically it wouldn't matter since the change happens at 2am local, but I suppose that wasn't your point

What if twins are born at midnight while crossing the International Date Line at the end of Daylight Savings Time?

9:14 PM
The government destroys all evidence. It's a massive DST coverup

@MichaelMrozek No, what I'm saying is that October 30 is now part of DST while it wasn't before.

Oh, that change

Yeah, I'm not arguing about DST in general. That would be too easy.

I can't seem to go to homebrew.stackexchange.com :(
but they already sent the email

9:16 PM
@JoePhilllips Works for me

Give a few minutes for dns caching
i can see it already

alrighty

laughs at @JoePhilllips
I can't login though, so you'll have the last laugh

@TimStone You know, if twins actually are born while the mother is crossing the International Date Line (on a ship or something), the younger twin can have his birthday before the older twin.

@MichaelMrozek What is your official position on this site?
In other words, where does it rate on a scale of Ubuntu to Unix?
2

9:18 PM
@PopularDemand Homebrewing? I didn't participate in the proposal at all, I'm ambivalent

@MichaelMrozek I thought the default was "mild hostility," with a -3 modifier if rchern is participating.

rchern's participation is definitely a factor, but at the moment it's about neutral. My eye doesn't twitch like when I look at AU, and I don't have inappropriate dreams about it at night like Unix

@MichaelMrozek >: (

Mod fight!
(I'm assuming Joe's going to become a pro tem mod, just based on enthusiasm.)

my participation in what?

9:24 PM
@rchern Michael Mrozek demands to know whether you're participating in Homebrewing SE.

Perhaps Michael Mrozek should not be lazy and look at my A51 profile then.

I'm a little disappointed we skewed away from DST discussion so abruptly

@JoePhilllips It probably had something to do with you bringing up the Homebrewing proposal every 15 minutes
2

@MichaelMrozek ..I see what you did there

@JoePhilllips What else did you want to talk about regarding DST?
There was a pretty long pause in the conversation, you could've said something.

9:32 PM
@MichaelMyers Maybe the world should standardize to UTC time like SO rather than local times

@JoePhilllips People are too foolish for that.

and then instead of changing the clocks, we could have a set date where we change our work hours instead -- if applicable

I think every town should keep its own time, just like the good old days before the railroads came.

Speaking of which, 99 consecutive days!

When Indiana switched to following DST a few years ago there were towns that tried to fight it and refused to switch
They caved pretty fast

9:35 PM
@PopularDemand Will you win an award for 100?

@MichaelMrozek Really? I thought some pockets of Indiana Time held out for quite a few years.

Does Fanatic not count?
@PopularDemand Not that I know of, but I don't live near any of them, so I'm not positive

@MichaelMrozek Ah, yes, "it doesn't affect me, so it doesn't exist."

@PopularDemand It certainly affects them when call centers located in Chicago are calling their house past their bedtime and they wonder why

How could they have held out for "quite a few years"? I thought this only happened about 5 years ago.

9:37 PM
I think it was 2006

Oh wow, Time in Indiana has its own Wikipedia article.

@MichaelMrozek Hm. I could have sworn I had seen an Indiana Time setting in Windows 95.

That was referring to EST without daylight savings time; ~2006 was when we switched to following it like everyone else and made that special timezone unnecessary

Time in Indiana refers to the controversial time zone division of Indiana, and to the state's historical response to daylight saving time. The official dividing line between Eastern Time and Central Time has, over time, progressively moved west, from the Indiana–Ohio border, to a position where it divided Indiana down the middle, to the Indiana–Illinois border as it is today. History Before 1883 Before 1883 in the United States, most towns and cities set their own local time to noon when the sun was at its highest point in the sky. Since the sun reaches "high noon" fo...

I still can't get on homebrew. It displays a SE site saying it doesn't exist. That doesn't seem like a DNS issue does it? Hmm..

9:41 PM
@JoePhilllips <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>F5</kbd>?

It redirects me to stackexchange.com/…
So I'm unable to refresh
Hmm... it has the "log in" link at the top even after logging in
I wonder if that could be an issue

@JoePhilllips Do you usually have problems with login?

@PopularDemand I don't think so
i'll do a sitewide logout to see if that changes anything
strange... I did a global logout on stackexchange.com but I'm still logged in to serverfault?
i'm assuming that should not happen

@JoePhilllips Good call.
stackexchange.com is kinda weird, though.
Try doing the global logout from a "regular" site, like SF.

Just tried... and I'm still logged in on SO
Not sure what's going on but it ain't good :)
oh wait, that's not what "log out everywhere" means

9:52 PM
flush yo dns (;

I guess I should read the descriptions

There is a global logout somewhere, but I don't remember where

@MichaelMrozek "log out" on any site, then click the second button.

Erm. Isn't that the "log out everywhere" Joe just said isn't a global logout?
It logs you out of every computer for that site; does it log you out for every site? I thought that was a separate thing

9:55 PM
@MichaelMrozek It worked for me globally sometime in the past three days.

Is chat.stackexchange.com borked for anyone else?

it takes you to a page that mentions Global Credentials in the redirects

@BrantBobby Works fine for me

Flushing DNS didn't fix it :(

@BrantBobby define borked

9:56 PM
Hmm, I'm getting a redirect loop.

it might be caching at your upstream DNS server

It's probably a dns issue somewhere else. Oh well.. i'll check it on my phone

Add a host entry for 64.34.119.12?

Is it even a separate DNS entry? I thought anything.stackexchange.com returned the right IP and the servers figured out what site to display

(I circled the error message)

9:58 PM
@rchern Thanks. I'll do that

@BrantBobby rofl

@MichaelMrozek Nope. Different IP I think

yes it is the same ip
(I thought) |:
what do you get if you ping homebrew?

I get 64.34.119.12 for every request, including awjefoiwjeiof.stackexchange.com

meh, I'm so the wrong person to be dealing with network issues.
is a software gal!

9:59 PM
Oh, hey, it works fine in Firefox. Maybe I should actually try clearing my cookies like the generic error message tells me to, for once.

@rchern Me too. Well, sort of

@MichaelMrozek, you're a software gal?

@rchern The software part; hence "sort of" :)

do you prefer Michaela or Michelle?

69.59.196.211 if I ping homebrew

10:01 PM
Rchern, of course.

@rchern what's the password for awjefoiwjeiof.stackexchange.com?

@JoePhilllips, whoa, that's the OR data center I'm pretty sure.
@PopularDemand, grumble

A: Why does chat point to Doug Kaye's website?

wafflesHow about removing the following line from C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts 184.73.192.140 chat.meta.stackoverflow.com :) or you could flush your dns with ipconfig /flushdns perhaps reboot your router, or switch to using google`s awesome dns

yeah, that's the ip I get if I ping the chats.
@Zypher, are the chats staying in OR indefinitely or are there plans to move those to NY?

indefinatly right now

10:07 PM
@rchern Putting IP in hosts fixes it

seems really strange you're getting the OR ip instead of the NY ip @JoePhilllips.

not when the SA messes up

o:

@Zypher Certainly possible. Actually, very probable

Probability is 100% when you personally know the SA

10:24 PM
Huzzah, finally hit 30k on SO!
despite only having posted four answers since July 2
That trickle of reputation from old posts does eventually add up.
Unfortunately, thanks to my second-ranked answer's having been deleted, a recalc would leave me at 29.8k. I know I'm living a lie, but I can't bring myself to do it.

It's ok. You have 30k in our hearts

And now enough people just looked at things in my profile that I just got the Famous Question badge. Not sure whether to feel guilty for self-promotion or mad that I didn't try it before. :P

@MichaelMyers My old answers never get upvoted. I suspect hacking

I think it's the partial matching stuff again. Votes for @MichaelMrozek are being given to @MichaelMyers

That lazy dev team

x:

11:03 PM
I lost 50 rep in upvotes due to serial upvoting
I hope my serial reps is replaced by real reps!
So that no reps is wasted.
Waster reps make the unicorns cry.
Do not feed the rep cap.

Yes. Recalcs re-run your entire reputation history as if the removed votes never existed.

11:17 PM
@MichaelMyers They were there, the votes were there, I saw them, I know it, I'm not crazy!

invokes Star Trek technobabble about the space-time continuum

@MichaelMyers Since you said Star Trek, I think I have to ask "which one?"

I've only seen TOS and TNG, and I think TNG's technobabble was far superior.

@MichaelMyers Actually, I meant "which space-time continuum," but that reading is valid as well.

11:33 PM
Geebs. These login issues will haunt me. When I click on login on the meta.homebrew it recognizes me and logs me in but then it doesnt actually show me as logged in

Anyone own one of those wifi Rovio's? blog.stackoverflow.com/2010/11/…

It actually logs me out of the parent site when I login to meta
Brilliant...

'Ello @AidenBell

11:52 PM
@PopularDemand Well, obviously, you just transitioned from a universe where they existed to one where they did not. Also a turtle now rules the world.
And I will leave you with this thought:
