I totally get how up voting good answers makes the whole site work.
But what is the point of up voting a question?
Relatedly, what for criteria are we meant to vote a question up? Is a well written question more deserving of up votes than a hard to answer question?

@rchern I go to the Tags page, pick the Name tab, then type something common in. It used to sort those tags by popularity, now it sorts alphabetically by name.
Hm, that's true. I guess the really perfect thing to do would be to leave a comment and then only post a new answer if the OP doesn't respond. But that's a lot of work.
@PopularDemand - The events were all in large cities in the US and Europe (UK and Holland, iirc), so by large western standards, though not as cheap as cinema tickets, still affordable. (Cinema tickets here are about £7, the conference was £89)
@Oded Still a third of what I pay for local events here. And we only have about 3 major one's in a year, with Tech-Ed being the biggest. Granted travelling to one outside of the country will cost 3 times what they charge here.
@Oded Sorry. My point was that you guys have it lucky, and I agree DevDays was cheap in your standards. In mine however, I wish they would realise here that charging these ridiculous prices does not encourage participation or attendance.
So what do you do when a customer is forcing you to release version 2.1 of your software when it's not even ready to be called an alpha? Only one of the many new features has been built yet... do I call it v2.1 pre-alpha? Or v2.1 alpha 1? Maybe 2.1 early alpha? Is there a greek letter for "Please don't make me release this software yet?"
@Diago - I absolutely understand. I am self employed and can never justify the cost of these things. It would be great to see more sponsored conferences that don't cost participants an arm and a leg (though I would hate to be in one that simply shoves the sponsors agenda down participants throats)
@Fosco 2.0 adds major features which 1.1 didn't have, and is backwards incompatible. 2.1 adds more features which 2.0 doesn't have, but is backwards compatible. 2.0.1 will fix bugs with 2.0
Hey... There's a really easy way to get around including a full copy of jQuery for Chrome scripts when those scripts don't actually use any privileged features (GM_* functions, etc)...
Simply insert the script itself into the page DOM and execute! The best part is that this technique works just ...

One of our clients likes to name the database servers after boxers from the Rocky movies, for some reason...Their internal IT department is a little less imaginative, and decided to name one of theirs "Bob".
@TheUnhandledException Please note this is only due to my current soon to be ex wife :P All my home servers and machines are named after Twilight characters
Although I am considering changing that to Simpsons or South Park characters.
@Tim Yeah. My wife's Mac is Renesmee. Her machine is Isabella. My Mac is Edward. The server is Alice, my VM is Marcus, the Linux server is Carlisle. The router is Aro and the wireless router is Jasper. You get the drift.

@JohntheSeagull For context: I work for a clothing retailer* Well it does mean I get to go hang out with the cute designers and models down in design department.
This is a great community -- Everyone here helps purely out of the goodness of their heart and the enjoyment of being experts in their field. But nobody has an obligation to provide you with urgent support... That being said, I often find this to be the fastest means to get questions answered. Questions, not training :-)
And @Moshe to clarify what I said which @MichaelMrozek (rightfully) objected to, post the details on SO. Come to chat to see if there's any experts who are available. Be polite about it. And if there are, start a room (or use The Roach Motel) to hash out details
